Mrs. Norma Jean Dotson, age 75, of Rosedale, Virginia, passed away Monday (April 23, 2019) at Bristol Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness. Born July 17, 1943 in Council, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Leonard and Dollie Presley Tiller. A 1961 graduate of Grundy High School, she had lived most of her life in the Southwest Virginia area and was a member of Rosedale Baptist Church. She had formerly been employed as a teachers' aide within the Buchanan County School System and with GTE Phone Company. A very talented artist, she enjoyed painting and crocheting. She had a love for the Lord, her husband and family. She enjoyed cooking, working in her flowers, traveling, but most of all spending time with her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Freddie Cole, one brother, Harold Tiller, and three sisters, Velva Tiller, Nadine Keen, and Mabel Davis. Survivors include her husband, Ulvert Dotson of Rosedale; one daughter, Sherry Cole of Abingdon; two step-daughters, Wanda Dotson and husband, David Davis, and Alice McReynolds and husband, Mike of Kentucky; step-son, Bruce Dotson and wife, Lisa of Hurley; grandson, Anthony Looney and wife, Tamara of Mooresville, North Carolina; step-grandchildren, Macy McReynolds, T.W. McReynolds, and Nora Davis; great-grandson, Hudson Looney; three brothers, Horace Tiller and wife, Sue of Rosedale, Homer Tiller and wife, Joann of Medway, Ohio, Jerry Tiller and wife, Karen of Martinsville; one aunt, Vee Yates of Bristol; several nieces and nephews also survive. The family would like to extend a special thank you the Doctors, the 4 West Nursing and Tech Staff, ICU 3 at Bristol Regional Medical Center for their compassion and care of Norma. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Saturday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Jeff Kinder and Rev. Larry Burton officiating. Interment will follow in the Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery at Richlands, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Bruce Dotson, Jim Lockhart, Roger Owens, Zachary Austin, Joey Austin, and Chuck Austin. Honorary pallbearers will be the Men of Rosedale Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6:00 PM Friday.
