Our dear father and patriarch of our family, Dominic Laface, age 90, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, September 9, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He was born September 24, 1932 to his dear parents, the late Domenica and Salvatore Laface. Dominic was a dedicated husband to Maria Laface for 68 years, and a loving father, grandfather & great grandfather. Dominic's life journey began in Tresilico, Reggio Calabria, Italy where he was born and he later embarked on a new chapter on October 4, 1949 when he & his dad Salvatore emigrated to Elizabeth, NJ, a place he would call home for the rest of his life. Dominic began working with his father in the garment industry, traveling to NYC for years. Dominic then labored as a construction worker for Laborer's Local 394 to support his family for many years, leaving a lasting legacy of hard work. He would later work as a custodian for the Elizabeth Board of Education at George Washington School No. 1. Dominic was a member of the Men's Vallatese Club in Elizabeth, where he valued the bonds of friendship and camaraderie he formed there. He loved gardening where he grew beautiful roses. He also had a vegetable garden & grape vine. He liked sports, was a NY Giants fan and also played and enjoyed soccer. He was a Jeopardy & Wheel of Fortune enthusiast, his favorite car was a Cadillac and he had a sweet tooth with his favorites being cannolis and pignoli cookies. As a man of faith and as a parishioner of St Anthony's Church in Elizabeth he found his spiritual fulfillment. To know him was to love him, he was a kind and gentle soul, his family always came first and he would do anything to make sure they felt loved. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His kind & selfless nature touched the lives of many, and his memory will forever be held in their hearts. Dominic is predeceased by his sisters: Mary DeLorenzo and her husband Frank; Rose Caruso and her husband Dominick; brother in law Joseph LaBracio, sister in law Mary Laface and nephews Chuck LaBracio and Joseph Caruso who have gone before him. He leaves behind a loving legacy in the hearts of his adoring children; Ann Marie Laface, Salvatore Laface and his wife Shaun and Linda Laface, as well as his cherished grandchildren; Michael Jackus, Kristopher Jackus and his wife Jacqueline; Dominic, Brock & Colton Laface; and Alyssa, Jessica & Alaina Martinez and his beloved great grandchildren Evan Jackus, Dean Jackus and Bella Laface. His loving siblings Grace LaBracio, Connie Ventrice and her husband Vincent, Joseph Laface and wife Marie; Frank Laface, Anthony Laface and his wife Barbara and many loving nieces and nephews. Memorial Donations may be made to St Jude Children's Research Hospital or to Serenity Hospice. Mr. Gabriel J. Patricia, 82, entered the arms of the Lord on Thursday, November 30, 2023, and was joyously greeted by all his family members who had predeceased him. We respectfully request that no one arrive at the funeral home prior to the posted visitation times, so as not to intrude on the family's private time. Family and friends are invited to the visitation in the Kowalski Funeral Home, 515 Roselle Street, Linden on Tuesday, December 5th. from 4:00-8:00PM. On Wednesday, December 6th. at 8:30AM, everyone will start to gather in the funeral home where a prayer service will begin at 9:00AM, followed by the funeral mass to be offered in St. Joseph the Carpenter Roman Catholic Church in Roselle at 10:00AM. The prayers of the committal will precede Gabriel's burial, alongside his parents, in the family plot in Fairview Cemetery in Westfield, New Jersey. Gabriel, the son of the late Jennie Occhipinti Patricia and the late Joseph Patricia, was born and raised in Elizabeth, New Jersey where he resided until moving to Roselle, New Jersey forty years ago. Gabriel spent his entire career in the banking industry starting out as a teller for the National State Bank in Elizabeth. In his forty-two years he rose through the ranks to become the Vice President of the National State Bank Computer Center in Linden, before earning his well-deserved retirement in 2001. Gabriel loved listening to classic pop genre of music, enjoying the well-orchestrated arrangements and smooth vocals of such artists as Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Tony Bennet, and Perry Como. The important virtue to symbolize Gabriel is that he was always "in charge". His life was spent at the Jersy shore, especially in the towns of Seaside Heights and Ortley Beach and later Ocean City. Gabriel would march all his nieces and nephews out of the beach house promptly at 9:00AM and take them down to the beach. There he would play games with them, swim and watch over them until lunchtime when he escorted everyone back to the house for lunch. After lunch, Gabriel took everyone back to the beach where he would keep them occupied until their return for dinner at 5:00PM. He truly was a second father to his nieces and nephews. Gabriel's mother, Jennie would spend her time in the kitchen cooking all the traditional Italian meals for everyone, that somehow can never be duplicated even to this day. Her grandchildren talk about their memories of Gabriel bringing them back to the beach house for lunch and as they're walking up the street, the aroma of sauteed garlic foods is wafting down the block to greet them. Gabriel really relished eating all the food that his mother so lovingly cooked for him. However, he was not necessarily a homebody, as Gabriel also enjoyed the opportunity to eat out in the surrounding restaurant as well. Family was the most important part of Gabriel's life, and he was the best uncle anyone could ever want. He took care of all his nieces and nephews, as if they were his own. There was never a quiet time when Uncle Gabriel was around. He made sure that they were always on the move, going to his beloved beach, enjoying the movies, or taking car rides to see the fall foliage or the brightly lit extravaganza of the Christmas season. He was always there for everyone at any time! Gabriel was predeceased by his parents, his sister, Carol Ann Peters (2023), his two brothers-in-law, Andrew J. Vena, Jr. (2016) and Bruce G. Peters, Sr. (2015) and his niece, Dawn Schworn (2019). Gabriel, "Uncle Gabe" is survived by his nephews and niece, Andrew J. Vena III and his wife, Candice, Joseph Vena and his wife, Janice, James Vena and his wife, Sandra, Patricia Vena Santos and her husband, Joe, Bruce G. Peters, Jr. and his wife, Joanne and James Schworn; his fourteen great nieces and nephews, one great great nephew, one great great niece and his many cousins, neighbors and friends. Gabriel was definitely 'one in a million", a man who would give you the shirt off his back, if you needed it. He was love and is loved; he is iconic in his family history and the stories will be retold for years to come. We know Gabe was the shining star of his family that has now been dimmed and beyond our reach. Our hearts are broken, but we also know that Gabriel was greeted with open arms, hugs, and kisses from everyone on the other side. We rejoice in knowing that as he was so aptly named, Gabriel has now become our guardian angel, watching over all of us! Rest in peace, Gabriel! We will forever miss you!Show more

Ms. Ubitalina Salcedo Duran, 85, entered the arms of the Lord on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, surrounded by the love of her family. We respectfully request that no one arrive at the funeral home prior to the posted visitation times, so as not to intrude on the family's private time. Family and friends are invited to the memorial visitation in the Kowalski Funeral Home, 515 Roselle Street, Linden on Thursday, November 30, 2023, from 2:00-5:00PM. During the visitation at 4:00PM, there will be a prayer service and a sharing of memories. The cremation in Rosehill Crematory, Linden was private. Ubitalina, the daughter of the late Odulia Duran and the late Miguel Salcedo was born in Cali, Colombia. She came to the United States in 1998, living in Elizabeth, New Jersey for a few years before settling in Linden, New Jersey eighteen years ago. Ubitalina was a born seamstress. She began sewing in her early years and as time went by, her talent developed and Ubitalina came to a point where she could sew any item or article of clothing. She truly was a master of her craft! Ubitalina also enjoyed feeding those who graced her home. She was known for cooking many of her delicious recipes from her Colombian culture and anyone sitting at her table was in for a treat. Ubitalina was an avid reader, constantly expanding her worldly knowledge or perhaps just reading for fun, but she was never without a book, newspaper, or magazine. Along the creative lines, Ubitalina was very much a lover of music - she used it to relax and simply enjoyed the melody, words, beats, and instruments playing from every genre. Ubitalina is survived by her three children, Luz Lilia Loiza and her husband, Alfredo, Luis Javier Salcedo and his wife, Jenny and Linda Ramos and her husband, Jose; her three brothers, Hugo Salcedo, Carlos Salcedo and Miguel Salcedo; her eight grandchildren; her four great grandchildren and her many neighbors and friends. Ubitalina was a woman of many talents but her love for her family superseded all else in her life; her love and devotion were boundless. She was like a brightly shining star that is now beyond our reach and she left a powerful legacy of what "family" truly means. As our hearts are breaking and the tears fill our eyes, we know that Ubitalina will always remain with us in spirit.Show more

Mr. Angel Custodio Arvelaez, 98, entered the arms of the Lord on Tuesday, November 21, 2023. We respectfully request that no one arrive at the funeral home prior to the posted visitation times, so as not to intrude on the family's private time. Family and friends are invited to the visitation in the Kowalski Funeral Home, 515 Roselle Street, Linden on Saturday, November 25th. from 1:00-3:00PM. At 1:30PM om Saturday, there will be a prayer service offered by Minister Cartayah Hawkins-Reid, followed by the sharing of memories from family and friends. The cremation in Rosehill Crematory, Linden will be private. Angel, the son of Angel Astudillo and Francisca Arvelaez was born in Guiria, Estado Sucre, Venezuela. He came to the United States in 1991, residing in Elizabeth, New Jersey for a number of years before moving to New Providence for nine years, followed by his last residence in South Amboy. While in Venezuela, Angel had fifty plus year career as a truck driver for Yelamno Transportation until his well-deserved retirement in 1985. Angel was a huge New York Yankee baseball fan and a boxing fanatic. He made sure to never miss watching a game or a match. Angel also dabbled in cockfighting and on the relaxing side of his life, he found entertainment reading the daily newspaper. Ever the character, Angel's favorite television show was The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Angel was the youngest and the last living member of the ten children born to his parents. Angel was predeceased by his son, Angel "Chichi" Arvelaez in 1980 and his son-in-law, Diogenes Lopez in 2004. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of seventy-one years, Carmen Lopez; his eight children, Elizabeth Guevara, Diosa Arvelaez and her husband, Angel Alvarado, Victor Arvelaez, Thais Porter and her husband, Donald Porter, Maribel Allen and her husband, John Allen, Marlene Abitanto and her husband, Peter Abitanto, Francisca Alvarado and her husband, Marcos Alvarado and Jose Arvelaez and his wife, Andrea Franco-Arvelaez, his daughter-in-law, Ninosca Montanez, his twenty grandchildren; his nineteen great grandchildren and his many neighbors and friends. Angel was a bright, shining, guiding light for all and he was the center of life for his family. He had an abundance of love for everyone in his circle. So many hearts are broken as tears fill our eyes with this enormous loss. Angel has now joined together with all those family and friends who went before him. They were waiting for him with open arms and smiles on their faces. Angel will be deeply missed, but he will never be forgotten. May he rest in eternal peace.Show more

Janill was born to father, Isaac Perez, and mother, Carmen Perez on May 17, 1988. She departed this earthly life too soon on the morning of Wednesday, November 15, 2023. Janill received Christ at an early age under the leadership of her father Isaac, with the independent, loving touch of her mother, Carmen. She was a high school graduate at J. P. Stevens in Edison, New Jersey and made it happen throughout all the obstacles life threw at her. For the last 8 1/2 years of her life, she has been a loving, wonderful mother, to her beautiful daughter, that she loved more than anything in this world and always put first, Isabelle. Not only was Janill, the best mother and daughter, but she also was the best sister to her three sisters Janiliz, Natisha, and Julissa. Janill was also the greatest, coolest aunt to her nieces and nephew, Cameron, Alisha, and Jaela. As for a friend, everyone loved her! She was an awesome friend. She never wanted to see anyone hurt. She would be a friend to anyone, no matter who they were or what they'd look like. Janill was a beautiful person inside and out. She wanted nothing but the best for people. She was everyone's cheerleader in life. That's the type of heart. We were also blessed to experience from Janill. She was one of a kind. Janill, we love you more than life. We miss you more than you can even imagine. You didn't deserve the pain that life has given you. We are also sorry for what you have been through. This isn't goodbye, this is see you later. Stephen Niemiec

Mr. Stephen A. Niemiec, 94, entered the arms of the Lord on Monday, November 20, 2023, in the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at New Brunswick. Stephen, the son of the late Mary Wos Niemiec and the late Blazey Niemiec was born in Bayonne, New Jersey, where he resided until 1987 when he decided to relocate to Piscataway, New Jersey. Stephen was a graduate of the Newark College of Engineering (NJIT). He enjoyed a long thirty-four-year career as an electrical engineer working for Western Electric in Kearny and then later their parent company, AT&T in Union, before retiring in 1986. A veteran of World War II, Stephen served proudly in the U. S. Navy as an electronic technician aboard the aircraft carriers USS Philippine Sea CV-47 and the USS Kearsarge CV-33. Throughout his life, his free time was always spent saltwater fishing. He would often go with family members on a private boat or even at times enjoy the experience of the party fishing boat. Fishing and being on the water were a combination for him of relaxation, peace, sport and his love of the open seas. Stephen was also a life member of the National Rifle Association and a member of the Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers (IEEE). He was the last surviving son of the nine children of Mary and Blazey. Predeceased by his wife, Ann Rydzik Niemiec in 1973, Stephen is survived by his son, Michael Niemiec; his grandson, Andrew Niemiec; his granddaughter, Lauren Previtera and her husband, Buddy; his great granddaughter, Mila Rose Previtera and his many nieces, nephews, neighbors, and friends. Stephen lived by his own code, molded over the years by his parents and the generation he grew up in. He has now rejoined all those who left this earth before him. Stephen will be greatly missed, but he will never be forgotten. May he rest in peace. In accordance with Stephen's precise wishes, all his funeral arrangements were private.Show more

Mr. Vaughn J. Lendzion, 77, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, November 17, 2023, leaving behind many broken hearts. On Saturday, December 2nd. at 10:00AM, family and friends are invited to gather on the parking area of the Kowalski Funeral Home to form the traditional procession to Rosedale Cemetery in Linden where the prayers of the committal will be offered for Vaughn at 10:45AM prior to his burial in the family plot. Vaughn, the son of the late Mary Savitsky Lendzion and the late Joseph Lendzion was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey. He resided in Linden from 1952 until 1999 when Vaughn decided to relocate in 2000 to Winfield Park. Vaughn had an extensive career from 1969 to 1999 as a quality control inspector for American Flange Manufacturing Company in Linden. After that, Vaughn continued to work in the maintenance department for the County of Union. He was based in the Union County Court House in Elizabeth for ten years before taking his well-deserved retirement in 2000. Vaughn proudly served his country in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1968. In recent years, he spent a lot of time with his special buddy, Eddie, his dog who was forever by Vaughn's side. Vaughn was predeceased by his wife, Margaret "Midge" Sass Hutton in 2022 and his sister-in-law, Sara Lendzion. Vaughn is survived by his brother, Retired Lieutenant Colonel U. S. Air Force, Dennis G. Lendzion; his two stepchildren, Tracey Dibelardino and her husband, Gary, and James Hutton; his three step-grandchildren, Nicole Dibelardino, Anthony Dibelardino and Briana Hutton; his sister-in-law, Liz Sass and his neighbors and friends. Vaughn was a true gentleman, a kind soul who was always respectful and he had a kind word for everyone. He was definitely "one in a million"! Vaughn will be forever missed by all those who loved him, but he will always remain in our hearts. Rest in peace Vaughn. You are now back together with your beloved Midge.Show more

Mrs. Shirley J. Amrozewicz Czech, 87, entered the arms of the Lord on Friday, November 17, 2023. Family and friends are invited to the visitation in the Kowalski Funeral Home, 515 Roselle Street, Linden on Monday, November 20th. from 2:00-4:00 & 6:00-8:00PM. On Tuesday, November 21st. at 8:30AM, everyone will start to gather in the funeral home where a prayer service will begin at 9:00AM, followed by the funeral mass to be offered in St. Hedwig Roman Catholic Church in Elizabeth at 10:00AM. The prayers of the committal will precede Shirley's burial in the family plot in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Linden, New Jersey. Shirley, the daughter of the late Janina H. Dural Amrozewicz and the late Francis R. Amrozewicz, was born in Newark, New Jersey. She was raised, went to school, and spent her entire life in Linden. Shirley had a twenty-five year career as a teacher's aide in School #4 where she was employed by the Linden Board of Education until finally earning her well-deserved retirement in 2014. During the 1950's, Shirley was a member of Linden's St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Roman Catholic Church's Sodality of the Blessed Mother. That started Shirley on her way as an active member in her local community alongside many of the area's families that she knew and grew up with. Shirley was a member of the School #3 PTA organization, as well as, a participant of Linden Summer playhouse. The Ladies Auxiliary Linden Knights of Columbus Council #2859 kept her busy with meetings and fund raisers throughout the years. She was also a member of the New Jersey Lapidary Society and the Bayway Women's Club. On a personal side, Shirley was a dynamite cook and an adventurous "foodie" who was constantly willing to try a new recipe or even make one up as she went along. Her mashed potatoes were famous in her inner circle. Shirley was a lover of animals, including her birds, her fish and her dogs, especially "Patches". Aside from forever being with children in school, Shirley had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. She was continually learning and passing that knowledge along to others. The smile that could light up the world was eternally a part of Shirley's demeanor, and she was a true "Jersey Girl" who loved the spending her time "down the shore" especially with her family in Wildwood. Even with such a full life, Shirley's heart was bursting at the seams with her love for her family. She would do anything, travel anywhere just to spend time with them. Whenever party occasions or the holidays rolled around, Shirley would cook enough food to feed an army and everyone, of course, went home with Tupperware filled with leftovers. Shirley is survived by the love of her life, her husband of sixty-two years, Richard J. Czech; her son, Marc-Jason Czech and his wife, Carol; her daughter, Jeannine Podesta and her husband, Alan; her granddaughter, Arista Czech and her many neighbors and friends. Shirley was a down to earth woman who spoke her mind and wasn't concerned about other's opinions about her. If she liked you, you knew it & if not. . . . well you knew that too! She was a wonderful lady devoted to her husband and children and she was the center of their world. Shirley will be forever missed, and she will always remain in our hearts.Show more

Hilda was born to Miguel A. and Maria (Lopez) Soto in NYNY, and has resided in Linden, NJ for over 20 years, prior she lived in Roselle, NJ. She was employed as an Office Manager for Kean University in Union for many years retiring in 2022. Hilda enjoyed listening to music especially her old LP's on her LP player; she was a hard rock fan. Hilda is survived by her loving son, Michael Craig Roxbury, her dear sisters, Gladys Soto and Evelyn Soto and her husband Gregory R. Lester W. Dass Sr. , 96, of Linden, NJ entered into eternal rest on Sunday, November 12, 2023. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at 9 a. m. from the Leonard-Lee Funeral Home, 301 E. Blancke Street. Linden. The Funeral Mass will be offered in St. Elizabeth Church Linden at 9:45 a. m. Entombment will follow in St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia. Visiting hours are on Tuesday from 3 to 7pm. Lester was born in Hoboken, NJ and came to Linden as a child where he attended Linden High School. He served in the United States Navy from 1945 to 1946. He was employed by American Flange MFG Co. in Linden for 41 years retiring in 1999 as Head of Research and Development, where he also received a US Patent. Lester along with his late wife Jane loved to travel, especially to Vermont, Canada, Alaska, Hawaii and California. Lester was the beloved husband to the late Jane M. Lauerman Dass who passed away in 2015. Loving father to Frank J. Dass, Lester W. Dass Jr. , and his wife Kelly and Nancy J. Kavanagh and her husband John. Cherished grandfather of Melissa, Jonathan, Rebecca, Christopher, Corey, Shannon and Kelsey, great-grandfather of Ella, Eli, Laileigh, Brandon, Grayson, Bennett, Hunter, Kennedy, and Baby G on the way.
