Dolores Ann Rees, 92, of Wyomissing, passed away Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at Country Meadows in Wyomissing. She was the wife of Frank J. Rees for 70 years. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Dolores was the daughter of the late William and Ann (Colgan) Nichols. She was a member of Saint Francis de Sales Roman Catholic Church. In addition to her husband, Dolores is survived by her children Kathleen M. Meehan wife of John J. Meehan of Douglassville; Arlene R. Mastrocola wife of Vincent J. Mastrocola of Allentown; Dianne R. Rees of Maryland; Susan C. Rees-Kirchner wife of Alan Kirchner of Sinking Spring; Thomas G. Rees husband of Trina Rees of Harleysville and her 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Dolores was preceded in death by her grandson Michael Meehan. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Epilepsy Foundation of New Jersey, 50 Millstone Road, Building 300, Suite 201, East Windsor, New Jersey 08520- for the Michael Meehan Medication Fund, in memory of Dolores Rees. Domenica Ciarlone, 102, of Wyomissing, passed away in her residence on Wednesday, November 8, 2023. She was the widow of Silvestro Ciarlone, who passed away on July 6, 1979. Born February 18, 1921, in Roccasicura, Italy, to the late Costanzo and Maria (Siraco) Bucci, she was one of three children. Domenica loved being with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. A very friendly woman, she enjoyed dancing and storytelling. Ever the flirt, she was always the life of the party. She loved cooking and baking for her family, making her famous pasta on New Years and pizzelles for every holiday and special event. She even loved to clean. Before immigrating to the United States, she worked on a family farm in Italy. In her later life, she worked for David Crystal, Reading Hospital, and Bonton before retiring as a nanny and caretaker. Left to treasure her memory are her children: Filomena M. , widow of Vincent Scarpitti, of Wyomissing; and Teresa A. , wife of James A. Strock, of Wyomissing; her seven grandchildren: Fred Scarpitti, Rose Scarpitti, Maria Focht (Jarrod), Lisa Johnston (Brian), Steven Strock (Gillian), Christopher Strock (Cara), and Daniel Strock (Jennifer); and her eleven great grandchildren: Rachel (Aaron), Nicolas, Hailey, Sarah, Emily, C. J. , Jacob, Audrey, Dylan, Maxwell, and Benjamin. Domenica is also survived by her niece, Maria Bucci, and nephew, Antonio Bucci of Roccasicura, Italy. She was predeceased by her brothers, Armando and Mario Bucci. Donald Thomas Burns, MD passed away at his home in Wyomissing on the morning of Sunday, October 29, 2023 at the age of 91 with his wife Carol by his side. Donald was born on January 24, 1932 in Buffalo, NY, the second son of Albert E. Burns and Hildegarde M. (Holtgreve) Burns. He spent his childhood living in Washington, DC and Bethesda, MD, and then his teen years in West Englewood, NJ, graduating from Teaneck High School in 1949. Donald attended Trinity College in Hartford, CT, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree as a pre-medical major in 1953. After college Donald attended the University of Pennsylvania Medical School in Philadelphia, PA, where he met his future wife Carol Stein, a nursing student at Penn, and graduated with a degree in medicine in 1957. While at Penn he pursued a residency in ophthalmology and was mentored by the pioneering eye surgeon Harold Scheie, founder of the school's Scheie Eye Institute. Donald and Carol married on June 23, 1956 in Philadelphia, and from 1958-1960 he served honorably as a Captain in the US Army Medical Corps. Following his military service Donald and Carol lived in Philadelphia where their first child, Susan, was born in 1963. The family then moved to Wyomissing, PA where Donald would establish a medical practice in ophthalmology and where sons Scott and Christopher were born in 1967 and 1969, respectively. Donald was on the staff of the Reading Hospital for over 30 years, serving as Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology before retiring from his career in medicine in 1997. Donald and Carol enjoyed traveling, and over the years they visited England, France, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Brazil, Ecuador, and Peru among other places, particularly fond of taking trips to London and Paris as well as family vacations to Bermuda and the Caribbean. They also very much enjoyed spending long weekends in Manhattan together, visiting museums and seeing plays on Broadway. Donald was happiest when surrounded by his family, and during retirement he especially enjoyed visits with his grandchildren. In addition to his wife Carol, Donald is survived by his daughter Susan, wife of Sherman Chamberlain (Palm Beach, FL), son Donald Scott, husband of Maribeth (Anzalone) Burns (Evans, GA), and son Christopher, husband of Lynne (Lubbeke) Burns (West Reading, PA). He is also survived by grandchildren Henry, Elizabeth, and Thomas Burns and step-grandchildren Drew, Noah, and Mark Chamberlain. Donald was predeceased by his brother Albert E. Burns, Jr. in 2007. Donald had been in poor health the past few years, but he was made comfortable at home thanks to the devoted care he received from his wife Carol as well as visiting caregivers. Kathleen Ann Zuidema, age 72, of Wyomissing, PA, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2023. Kathy was born to Joseph and Ruth Hubner in Rochester, New York. After Kathy graduated from Bishop Kearney High School, she went on to obtain a Bachelor's Degree in English at SUNY Oswego and a Master's Degree in Library Science at SUNY Geneseo. Kathy was incredibly intelligent, caring, and fiercely loyal to her family and friends. She was an accomplished competitive water skier and considered Honeoye Lake heaven on earth, where she spent many summers with her family. She loved tennis, Scrabble, and crossword puzzles and was a voracious reader. She was also a notorious table talker when playing euchre. Her infectious smile and wry sense of humor will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Kathy was preceded in death by her father, Joseph, and her mother, Ruth. She is survived by her loving husband, Richard; her children, Scott (Lauren) and Adam (Jennifer); and four grandchildren: Mackenzie, Jack, Mila, and Rory. Kathy was the oldest of six children and she leaves behind her five siblings: Mary Jo, Janice, Ann, Tom, and John, and their many children and grandchildren. A celebration of life at Honeoye Lake will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Kathy's memory to the Alzheimer's Association at P. O. Robert P. Lesche, 69, of Wyomissing, passed away in his residence on October 26, 2023, after a long battle with cancer. Born in Ludwigsburg, Germany, he was a son of the late Robert H. and Mary L. (Koller) Lesche. The family immigrated to the United States in June 1958, and Bob became a citizen in November 1968. He graduated from Wilson High School. Bob was a mechanic. Racing was Bob's passion, though he enjoyed motorsports of all kinds. Bob was a member of Wayne Witmer Dirt Sports crew. He also was a motorcycle enthusiast. He was a member of the Strausstown Rod and Gun Club as well as member of the Berkshire Heights Fire Company. Left to treasure his memory are his daughter, Loretta M. Lesche of Palmyra; his son, David Smith of Harrisburg; and his grandchildren, Damien Lesche and Hailey Foster. He is also survived by his sister, Pamela Nowack, widow of Rick, of Exeter, and their children, Brandi Jones and Ricky Nowack, and his sister, Sylvia Warner, wife of Dean, of Wyomissing, and her son, Robert Koller, his wife, Melissa, and their daughter, Brianna. Robert's family expresses particular appreciation for his best friend, Wayne Witmer, and his family, who did so much for Bob and was always there for him. Helen "Sis" (Bauerschmidt) Rosendale, 101, passed away on October 23, 2023, at the Highlands at Wyomissing in Wyomissing, PA. She was born in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of the late William and Mae (Bodkin) Bauerschmidt. Helen lived most of her adult life in Pottstown, where she met her future husband, Richard L. "Dick" Rosendale, who passed away in 2016 after 72 years of marriage. Helen was a graduate of Pottstown High School and Katherine Gibbs School in New York City. After working at the Doehler Jarvis Company for several years, Helen focused on raising her children and supporting her husband, Dick, who established a paving and excavation business in the greater Pottstown area. She enjoyed tennis and gardening, pursuing both into her later years. She was revered by her family. Helen is survived by her daughters, Sally, wife of Alan Becker, of Coopersburg, and Anne, wife of Jack Byrnes, of Barnegat Light, NJ; her grandchildren, Jennifer Wagner, Tiffany Becker, Christopher Byrnes, Elizabeth Discepolo, and Jessica Byrnes; and her great-grandchildren, Brooke Wagner, Hailey Wagner, Dylan Byrnes, Reid Byrnes, and Rose Discepolo. Beverly Jean Thompson, 80, of Wyomissing, Pa, passed away on Thursday, October 19, 2023, at home following complications related to Alzheimer's disease. She is survived by her caring and loving husband, Charles W. Thompson, Jr. They were introduced in 1961 by her mother and his aunt and married July 12, 1981, at Saint Paul Baptist Church of Montclair, NJ by Rev. Marvin McMickle. They went on to develop a supportive and special bond that lasted for 42 years. Beverly was born on March 17, 1943 in Charlottesville, Va. She grew up with a passion for teaching and earned a master's degree in Elementary Education/Teaching at Kean University of NJ. She started her first job at St. Cloud Elementary School of West Orange, NJ, and taught for some 17 years. After moving to Berks County in 1981, she applied her teaching skills to the area of Adult Basic Education in business, college, community and government grant programs. She has been employed as a supervisor at CNA, an Instructor at RACC, a teacher at BCAP and a Literacy Council volunteer. Her talent lay in assisting students to cultivate their reading abilities and boost their self-confidence. Beverly was predeceased by her father, James Dulaney, her mother, Jean (Young) Dulaney and her sister, Susan Dulaney. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her sister, Sonya Dulaney-Lattimore, her niece, Ayana Lattimore, her nephew, Chas (and wife Leslie) Gormley and her nephew, Mykl Gormley and a host of her cousins. A Celebration of Life Services will be held Friday, October 27, 2023, at 1:00 p. m. at the Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc. , 739 Penn Avenue, West Reading, PA 19611.
