Growing up in the close-knit town of Fostoria, Ohio, Linda shared her childhood with her two adored younger sisters. She graduated from Fostoria High School and furthered her education at Otterbein College. On a trip home, Linda joined a friend on a blind double-date that would change her life. Linda ultimately began dating the man who was set-up to date her friend on that date, Julius Shinko. Their connection was instant, leading to a beautiful romance that culminated in marriage on June 26, 1961. Thus began a remarkable 62-year adventure, marked by unwavering love and shared dreams. One of Linda's greatest talents was her ability to weave stories through the art of scrapbooking. With meticulous care, she chronicled the family's cherished memories, adorning each page with love and creativity. These volumes, brimming with the laughter and warmth of her family, stand as a testament to her dedication to preserving the precious moments that brought them all together. Joseph Firment

Joseph Firment

Age - 85

October 15, 2023

Joseph D. Firment, age 85 of Avon Lake passed away on October 11, 2023. Joe was raised on the East side of Cleveland along with his younger brother Raymond. His father passed away when the boys were young, leaving his mother to run the family bar "JoJo's". Growing up in the bar taught Joe the valuable skills of reading people, making deals, and hard work. Joe then moved onto selling jewelry and insurance, where he met Marianne Wielgus, whom he married in 1961. Shortly after, Joe enlisted in the US Army and proudly served as a chaplain's assistant at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Following his discharge, Joe described his situation as "married with a kid and broke", so he quickly sought out work. He responded to an advertisement for car sales that promised a free vehicle. It delivered on much more than promised, as it was the springboard for his life's work. Joe moved up the ranks becoming the General Manager at Fred Stecker Oldsmobile in Euclid, Ohio for 16 years. In 1981, Joe purchased Poklar Chevrolet in Lorain, Ohio, a struggling dealership that no other dealer would take a chance on during an economic recession. During the mid 1980's Joe's three sons, Paul, Tom, and Jim, joined their father in the family business. Through hard work, determination, and community involvement, Joe Firment Chevrolet began to thrive. In 1995, Joe acquired Lupe Chevrolet in Avon Lake, Ohio and successfully ran it for a decade. Ultimately, in 2011, Joe and his sons combined all operations and built a brand-new state of the art Chevrolet dealership in Avon, Ohio, where it remained as Joe Firment Chevrolet until 2021. Joe made family, faith, work, and his community his top priorities. As a devout Catholic, he was a member of Holy Spirit Church in Avon Lake for 37 years. Professionally, Joe was the patriarch of the family business, and also served as President of both The Cleveland Auto Dealer's Association, and The Chevrolet Ad Group. As a loving father and grandfather, Joe was always available for his seven children and 17 grandchildren. Joe and his sons were most proud to be able to support and invest in the many events, sponsorships, and parks within its surrounding communities. Joe is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years Marianne Firment; loving children Paul (Stephanie), Tom (Amy), Jim (Laura), Kristin Perry (Matthew), Holly Armbrecht (Scott), and Laura Rudnik (Matthew); cherished grandchildren Nick (Kim), Taylor, Alyssa, Zach, Nikki (Ronnie), Lexie, Sydnie, Payton, Hunter, Cristian, Abbie, Catie, Haley, Carley, Calliope, and Blayze; great-granddaughter Raegan; and brother Raymond (Maren).
