Joyce Marshall
Age - 87
October 31, 2023
Joyce Marie Marshall (nee Cooper) peacefully exited her earthly body to join her welcoming committee on the other side of the veil. Those who greeted her were her beloved husband Jim (James) Marshall of 62 years, her mother, Myrtle (nee Knowlton) and step father Horace South, her siblings and their spouses, Bob (Robert) and Catherine Cooper, Donald and Barbara Cooper, and Diane (nee Cooper) and James Danbury. Joyce was also welcomed by her much-loved daughters in law, Greta Schmidt Marshall and Maggie (Margaret) Marshall and her beloved first grandchild, Emily J. Marshall. There were also a plethora of aunts, uncles, cousins, sisters and brothers in law, and friends. It was crowded. If you know Jim I'm sure he organized them and then sent them to a different meetup location so he could be the first to hold her hand as she crossed. Those left behind to meet her at some distant date are her children Jimmy (James) Marshall and his fiancee Angie Genghini, of Robbinsville, NJ; John and Kathleen Marshall of West Amwell, NJ; Susan Marshall of Nashville, TN; Joseph and Suzanne Marshall of Robbinsville, NJ and Stephanie and Jim Meehleder of Greenfield, MA; her sister, Carol South, of Woodland, NC; grandchildren: Charles Marshall, Marcy (Olivia) Meehleder and Kai Pratt; her niece Margo and Jack Livarchik, her dearest friend and cousin Avah Gallo, lifelong friend Barbara Piraino, her unofficially adopted daughter, Annie Nalence of Richboro, PA; MANY nieces, nephews and incalculable "greats". Joyce was born and raised in Trenton, NJ and graduated from Trenton Central High School. She worked as an administrative professional at Heinemann Electric Co. before marriage. Joyce and Jim were married in 1958, and resided in Trenton, NJ until 1969, moving to West Amwell, NJ. They built their own house "in the country" to raise their family. Joyce enjoyed cooking, baking, and volunteering with the PTA for all of her children's activities. All throughout her life, she loved music; singing along to her favorites, and passing that appreciation onto her children. She also enjoyed her monthly gathering of the "Yackers Club" or "Secret Pals" as she called them, with her female relatives. She loved hosting countless family gatherings for the holidays in her home. Later she enjoyed bingo, bowling, going to tag sales with her friends, and boating with her husband. After many years and memories in their home, they decided to move to Punta Gorda, FL. They lived and loved many happy years in a retirement community. Joyce, being the human magnet that she was, made many friends, joined the Red Hat Society, was the community's "Sunshine Lady", and enjoyed life as much as possible. As her health declined, Jim cared for her, giving back ten fold all the love she'd given to him and their family all those years. In early 2020, when Jim unexpectedly passed, they had enjoyed almost 62 years of marriage together. She moved to Pt. Richey, Florida, then back to New Jersey, and spent her final days in Massachusetts, where she peacefully passed away following an illness. How do you summarize 87 years of her life? She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother (and honorary grandmother), aunt, cousin, friend, the list could go on for pages. She was an icon. A combination of love, humor, empathy, beauty and purity of soul. She loved to laugh and did so often. Luckily she was surrounded by a family of comedians. We believe that the light that was there to guide her was so bright, and the welcoming committee so loud, she knew she could return to her former glorious self and be free of a body that no longer wished to cooperate with a soul that longed to fly. A joint memorial service will be held for Joyce and Jim, as they wished to be together and one would wait for the other.
