Diane Chanas

Age - 71

November 30, 2023

Diane Lee (Campbell) Chanas, daughter of Thorman and Pauline (Seymour) Campbell was born on July 29, 1952, in Winterset, Iowa, and passed away peacefully at home under the care of hospice and family on November 28, 2023. Diane grew up on the family farm near St. Charles, Iowa with her parents and sisters, Charlotte and Connie. After graduating from Interstate 35 High School in 1970, she received a cosmetology degree from Iowa School of Beauty where she met her lifetime friend, Elaine, who became an adopted member of the family. Diane started her career as a beautician at Ingersoll Barber and Beauty Shop and after several years of hard work, she was able to purchase the business from the owner who was retiring. Fortunately for her kids and nieces and nephews, "Aunt Dee" provided many years of haircuts for them. Diane was united in marriage to Mike Chanas on Sept. 20, 1980. They were blessed with three children-Brandon Michael, Darren Ray, and Alanna Marie. Diane's family and friends were everything to her. She remembered everyone's birthday and anniversary dates and enjoyed celebrating these special days with them. She especially enjoyed camping and working at the Iowa State Fair and getaway trips with Mike to Laughlin, Nevada several times a year. She liked to play peanuts and spending Sunday afternoons at Stan and Connie's pool. After about 20 years as a beautician, Diane gave up her own career when Mike asked her to help him run their other family businesses. First there was the Stroll Inn and later they built the Royal Flush Restaurant & Lounge. After they sold their business in 2017, Diane wasn't ready to retire and continued working part-time at the Hy-Vee Market Grille on Euclid Avenue until she was unable to work due to health issues. Diane was preceded in death by her infant son, Darren; her parents, Thorman and Pauline; her parents-in-law, Mike and Helen Chanas and brother-in-law, Allen Chanas. She is survived by her husband Mike; children Brandon and Alanna; sisters, Charlotte (Roger) Banks, Connie (Stan) Barnard, and Elaine (Denny) Knudtson, sister-in-law, Becky Chanas and many nieces, nephews and friends. Joyce Rogers

Joyce Rogers

Age - 74

November 28, 2023

Joyce Elaine Rogers, 74, died of heart failure Monday, November 27, 2023 at UnityPoint Iowa Methodist Medical Center. A Memorial Service will be held 11 am Monday, December 4th at Iles Grandview Park Chapel where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens. Mrs. Rogers was born to Bud and Lois Newcomb of Des Moines. Mrs. Rogers was the eldest of five children and she tended to her three sisters and brother as a friend and confidant throughout her life. She often spent her evenings on the phone with her siblings talking about everything from personal problems to the minute events of the day. Mrs. Rogers and her husband of 48 years, Bobbie L. Rogers Jr. , met at East High School, from which they both graduated in 1967. They married on June 7, 1975, and had spent all but one night of their married life together until Mrs. Rogers underwent a recent pair of back surgeries, which forced a prolonged hospital stay. The inseparable pair camped across the country visiting every state except Alaska. They often brought their nieces and nephews along for the journey, providing joyful adventures in nature and visiting important historical sites across America. Mrs. Rogers delighted in bringing family, friends, and neighbors together to share food and fellowship, especially at her annual Fourth of July party hosted at the couple's east Des Moines home. Mrs. Rogers worked as a hairdresser for 38 years, first at a shop on East Ninth Street and later with her sister Juli. She cared for her customers as extensions of her own family. She gave rides to elderly women who couldn't make it to the shop. She visited them in the hospital and attended their funerals. In one special case, Mr. and Mrs. Rogers invited the 15-year-old teenage son of one of her late customers to live in their home. The troubled teen, Daniel P. Finney, initially rejected the affections of the Rogers. Still, a relentless onslaught of love, patience, generosity, and terrific home-cooked meals soon swooned the boy into thinking of Mrs. Rogers as the greatest blessing of his life. Mrs. Rogers was preceded in death by her parents, Bud and Lois Newcomb, and her sister, Janell Hauf, and in-laws: Bobbie, Sr. and Betty Rogers. Mrs. Rogers is survived by her husband Bobbie Rogers, son Daniel Finney of Des Moines, sisters Janice Garber of Des Moines, and Juli Auerbach of Ankeny, and brother Steve (DeeAnne) Newcomb of Des Moines; and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Rogers remained close to her late sister Janell's widow Jim Hauf. Memorial contributions are being made to the Mount Rushmore National Monument Society of the Black Hills.
