"Diane K. Burkhart, 70, of Evansville, passed away Sunday, September 10, 2023, at Deaconess Hospital Gateway Campus surrounded by her immediate family. Diane was born January 22, 1953, in Evansville to the late Starlus E. "Tom" and Catherine (Hartig) Buttry. She attended West Heights Elementary, Helfrich Park Middle School and FJ Reitz HS, graduating in 1971. In High School she was in Future Teachers of America and several other clubs. She knew at a young age that she wanted to be a teacher because of the influence of her 2nd grade teacher. She chose Ball State University because it was known for its education program. She was selected as a freshman to enter a curriculum that put students into the classroom beginning their first year. It also allowed students to teach in the Great Britain school system. While in England she lived with a host family. She has remained in contact with them annually ever since the experience. Following the classroom experience she toured Europe for 4 weeks before returning to campus. She graduated in 1975 with her BA. and later obtained her MA from Indiana State University. She began her teaching career at an elementary school near Crawfordsville, Indiana. She met her future husband during her Senior year at BSU. He was the President of the Student Education Association where she served as Secretary. They married in 1976 and moved to Evansville. She continued her teaching career at West Side Consolidated Catholic Schools retiring in 2013. Her many students adored her, and her colleagues loved working with her. They appreciated her humor which helped them enjoy each teaching day. She took dance lessons through her senior year, played intermural basketball in HS, was a member of the National Honor Society and competed in the Indiana State Miss FTA pageant. She was extremely organized in her professional and personal life. She loved her family, and it was important that her sons have the opportunity to experience extracurricular activities. Both participated in numerous sports teams and were in music programs including marching band, orchestra, and honors groups. She was a member of the PTA and belonged to the booster clubs of the activities her sons were involved with. Diane was a life member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ where she once served as Chairman of the Christian Education Committee. She pledged Alpha Phi sorority at BSU, was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa teacher sorority, Posey County Retired Educators, Evansville Retired Teachers, Big Blue Boosters Director, and VFW Axillary. She also enjoyed photography of her family and travel. She began collecting Wedgewood Pottery after visiting the factory in England during her college experience. In retirement she also began acquiring other collectables and antiques. Surviving Diane are her husband of 47 years, Wendell Burkhart; two sons and their wives, Brian and Chelsea Burkhart and Bradley and Julie Burkhart, as well as four grandchildren, Makayla, Lex, Lucas, and Lincoln Burkhart. While her health would allow, she attended as many activities of her grandchildren as possible. Her cancer journey began in 1996 when her sons were 14 and 10. She continued to be heavily involved with them and continued teaching after completing chemotherapy. The cancer remained dormant for 18 years before returning as stage 4 metastatic breast cancer. She returned to St. Louis for treatment in 2014 where she had her original breast surgery. The cancer advanced slowly in her bones until 2022 when it moved into soft tissue. She entered hospice care on September 8th. Funeral services for Diane will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at Pierre Funeral Home, Rev. JD Rose and Rev. Jeff Long officiating. Sheryl D. (Dodson) Andrecht, 78, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away on Friday, December 8, 2023 at The Terrace at Solarbron. Sheryl was born in Corydon, Iowa on September 25, 1945 to the late Duane and Noma (Montgomery) Dodson. She loved church music and taught piano for over 50 years. Sheryl has taught and touched countless students worldwide as well as teaching most of her nieces and nephews. She was a member of University Heights Baptist Church for 57 years where she used her musical gift as the church organist. Her relationship with Christ, family and church were the three most important things in her life. Sheryl was blessed with a wonderful Christian husband whom she shared devotions with daily. She was famous for her homemade bread and, in her free time, loved crafting and tending to her plants. Sheryl never met a stranger and will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Sheryl is survived by her husband of 55 years, Frank Richard Andrecht; daughter, Esther Driggs (Mike); son, Peter Andrecht (Tera); brothers, Norman Dodson (Joyce), Norris Dodson (Sue) and David Dodson (Janna) all of Evansville, IN; grandchildren, Chris Andrecht, Jackie Thomas (Eric), Bodie Driggs, Mackenzie Morris, Alaina Andrecht and Brady Andrecht; great grandchildren, Elijah Thomas and Tatum Thomas; and by many nieces and nephews. Sheryl was preceded in death by her parents. Services will be held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at University Heights Baptist Church, 8800 Middle Mt. Davida Ann Wilson, treasured wife, mother, mamey, daughter, sister, friend, and aunt passed away peacefully on December 7th, 2023, at the age of 49 in Evansville, Indiana. She was born on March 20, 1974, in Washington, Indiana to the late Janice Sue Russell Mayes. With heavy hearts, her beloved family cherishes her memory and the loving legacy she leaves behind. Surviving to honor Davida's memory are her loving husband, Chris Wilson; her devoted sons, Kaleb Wilson Sr. , James Douglas "J. D. " Wilson ( Haven Lunsford), and Bryce Wilson. She was the proud and doting mamey to five grandchildren: Kaleb Jr. , Ella, Tony, Luca, and Lily Wilson. Davida's father, Donald Arthur "Don" Mayes, and her sisters, Sheila Guy (James Baker) and Rhonda Clark (Eric),also mourn her passing. Her mother,Janice Mayes, sister, Tina Reese Mayes, and nephew, Seth Coy preceded her in death. Davida Wilson was a beacon of light in the field of nursing. After pursuing her passion, she became a Nurse Practitioner in 2009, dedicating herself to the care and education of others. A respected educator, she taught at Indiana Wesleyan University and Vincennes University Jasper Campus. In her professional career, she provided outstanding care at Deaconess Gateway Hospital's Gastrointestinal Unit and served with compassion at the Daviess County Hospital Clinic and most recently at the Memorial Health Washington. An active member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Davida's community spirit was only rivaled by her unwavering dedication to her family. Her joy was most apparent in the time she spent with her husband, children, and grandchildren. Known for her loving nature, kind demeanor, and friendly outlook, Davida will be remembered as someone who brought warmth and comfort to all who knew her. She balanced her professional life and family devotion with her various interests. Davida was an avid golfer, skilled in knitting and crocheting, and always up for a ride on the side by side. She found great pleasure in traveling and cherished the opportunities to explore new places with those she loved. Davida Wilson was loved unconditionally by many and will be profoundly missed. Her legacy of love, kindness, and friendship will live on in the hearts of those she's touched. Her inspiring journey has left an indelible mark on this world, exemplifying a life rich in care, compassion, and connection. Louise McMasters, 98 of Newburgh, IN passed away on December 5, 2023, just after singing Christmas carols with some of her great-grandchildren. She was born on April 24, 1925 in Annapolis, Maryland to the late Benjamin and Jane Louise Jones. She graduated from Annapolis High School in 1942 and then worked in the Pentagon as a typist. She met a young navy sailor and on July 17, 1945, she married the love of her life, Gordon McMasters ("Mac"). They moved to Evansville and had two children. She worked as a cashier at the Vogel School cafeteria. She was an active member of Eastside Christian Church, The Firemen's Auxiliary, and The Daughters of the Nile. She met many friends through her 50 years with the Nile and served on the Isis Temple No. 41 Patrol. Louise was known to many as "Weezer". She enjoyed traveling. In her younger years she spent time traveling back home to Maryland. She went on many trips with friends and family, but Lake Barkley became a little slice of heaven after retirement. Many memories were made there with friends and family. Louise was very active her whole life and never missed a walk around Wesselman's Park. Her favorite name was Mamaw, she will be deeply missed by all of her grandkids. Louise was very involved in their lives every step of the way. Louise was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon; son-in-law, Dwight Rounder; and daughter-in-law, Leah McMasters. She is survived by her children, Gordon McMasters Jr. ("Butch") and Bonnie Rounder; grandchildren, Ashley Niehaus (Mike), Chad Rounder (Hattie), and Lindsey Bingham (Brad); great-grandchildren, Zeke, Zoe, Xavier, Xander, Azalea, Rose, Terez, Leza, Imma, Kolbe, Ike, and Luke Niehaus, Lucy Belle, Sterling, and Tilden Rounder, Ella and Silas Melchiors, and Warrick, Mara, and Cate Bingham. James "Jim" Oliver Houghton, Sr. , 88, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at The Wyndmoor. Jim was born in Elberfeld, Indiana on January 24, 1935 to the late Oliver and Martine (Basham) Houghton. Jim worked for many years as a coast to coast truck and bus driver. He enjoyed being in the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. Jim loved to travel and looked forward to the yearly family trip to Louisiana. Above all else, Jim loved his family and will be missed by many. Jim is survived by his daughter, Tina Houghton-Francis; sons, Delbert Houghton (Laurell), Donald Houghton, Ron Houghton (Jeanna), and Eric Dockery (Tawani); sister, Doris; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Linda Darlene (Crow) Houghton; daughter, Deborah K. Gardner; sons, James Houghton, Jr. , Thomas Dockery, and Dennis Houghton; his parents; sisters, Della, Juanita, Lois, Donna, Barbara, and Louise; brothers, Loran and Charles; and dear friends, William "Dickie" Temme and Vic Ross.
