Edward Clyde Nilson, 72, of Union Mills, Indiana, passed away on Friday, February 23, 2024 at VNA Hospice Center. Edward was born in La Porte, IN, on May 1, 1951, to Edward Maux and Winifred Dorothy Marie (Hazeltine) Nilson. On September 23, 1972 in La Porte, IN, he married Pamela Holloway, who survives. Also surviving are his 2 children, Heather (Ken) Lorraine Nix of La Porte and Leif Edward Nilson of Union Mills; 2 grandsons, Kyle Edward Nix of Mishawaka and Conner Wesley Nix of La Porte, and a sister, Winifred Landis of Lafayette; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Warren and Wesley Nilson; and sister, Julieanne Nilson. From September 1969 to January 1972, Edward proudly served in the United States Army. He served in Korea and Vietnam with the 173rd Airborne. Edward was a Millwright for over 30 years, where he served as past president and treasurer for Local 1043. He was actively involved in the National Muzzle Loaders Rifle Association and served as president and treasurer with the Menominee Muzzle Loaders. Edward enjoyed camping, canoeing, and portraying a pirate in living history reenactments. He was an avid Risk and Chess player, as well as an avid outdoorsman. Edward was a past Eagle Scout and member of the Order of the Arrow. Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte. A Celebration of Life Memorial Gathering will be held from 1 - 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 3, 2024 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm, Friday at the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, IN. Private services and burial will take place in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. He was born February 13, 1936 in Chicago IL, to the late Felix and Pearl (Kosakowski) Dynowski. On May 18, 1957 in Michigan City, IN he married Beverly Volstorf who preceded him on February 25, 2021. Surviving are his daughter, Theresa (Rick Richmond) Pagos of Michigan City, IN; two grandchildren, Lindsey (Justin) Browning of Michigan City, IN and Michael Pagos of Indianapolis, IN; and a great-grandchild, Beau Browning. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Francis Dynowski; sister, Phyllis Januszewski; and nephew, Jerry Januszewski. Bill had worked for 10 years at Republic Steel and then went to work at Bethlehem Steel where he retired after 33 years. He was a member of the Phi Delta Kappa Fraternity, life member of the St. Joseph Young Men's Society and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. AND THE COWGIRL RIDES AWAY…. Doris Ann (Lidgard) Towle, beloved Mother, Sister, Grandma, and Great Grandma passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on February 13, 2024. She was 79 years old. She left behind a brother, Fred (Doris) Leaf; sisters, Debbie (Ron) Gregory and Edna Mae Spinelli; daughter, Mickey (Don) Brady; son, Barry (Donna Burney) Towle, Sr.; grandchildren, Sara Towle, Barry (Tasha Tolson) Towle, Jr., Adrianne (Tom) Ball, and Stephanie Culp; great- grandchildren, Kacy Wesson Smith, Elsie Mae Towle, Aiyana (Justin) Salcedo, Montana Wrzesinski, Christian Gordon, Sheldon Brady, Owen Brady, Cameron Gordon, Nathan Brady, and Corbin Baum; and several nieces and nephews. We know she was met at Heaven’s Gate by her husband of 61 years, James Towle who had her favorite horse, Sunburst Patchy, all saddled up and waiting for her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dale and Arlene Lidgard, Christopher Adams, and Violet Bouchie; brothers, Richard Lidgard and Michael Bouchie; daughter-in-law, Theresa (Kinder) Towle; nephew, Brian Lidgard; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Our mother touched many lives through her lifelong commitment to the breeding, training, and showing of horses. She always said, “Leave ‘em better than you found ‘em”, and she always did. She was a horsewoman extraordinaire who graced our lives and the lives of all animals she encountered. A Celebration of Life will be held to honor the lives of our parents on Friday, April 5, 2024, at 4:00 p.m., at the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 23, 2301 Ohio Street, Michigan City, Indiana. A bonfire will take place following the celebration at the family farm at 3085 West 450 North, La Porte, Indiana. Please bring your own chairs and beverages of choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, in La Porte. John Wilfred Palman, 75, of La Porte, IN, passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at Northwest Health La Porte John was born in Chicago, IL, on January 19, 1949 to John and Alice (Jones) Palman. On May 6, 2000 in Michigan City, IN, he married Patricia McClain who survives. Also surviving are his 2 daughters, Laura (Ryan) Schreiber of La Porte and Lindsey (Tyson) Greenwood of New Carlisle; step-daughter, Julie (Lukas) Huston of Douglasville, GA; step-son, Gary (Leah) McClain of Greenwood; sister, Georgeanne (John) Ricci of Indianapolis; 10 granchildren, Tyson Jr., Melanie, Mason, and Tim Greenwood, Avery, Emery, Allie, and Evan Schreiber, and Haylie and Thadd Munsey; as well as 2 nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Julie Fletcher; and step-son, Jeff McClain. John worked as a foreman for Bethlehem Steel and later became an independent insurance agent. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Michigan City. John enjoyed trains, cars, and building things. He will be fondly remembered for his ability to fix anything--"If he can't fix it, it ain't broke!". Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Pastor David Solum officiating. A time of visitation will be held from 4 - 7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center and from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday at the funeral home.
