Dewey Lee Clemons, Jr. born Friday, July 25, 1969 to Dewey and Juanita Clemons went home to be with Jesus on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at home. Dewey courageously fought four types of cancer since 2018. 2 Timothy 4:7 I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith. Dewey was a 1987 graduate of George Wythe High School, Wytheville Community College with a degree in Police Science and a BS in Criminal Justice from Bluefield College. He was a graduate of the New River Criminal Justice Training Academy. Dewey retired from the Wytheville Police Department on August 1, 2019 due to the brain tumor. He held positions of Patrolman, Patrol Sergeant, Investigator and retired at the rank of Lieutenant. He was also an instructor at the New River Criminal Justice Training Academy. He had a passion for working with children and coached football at Fort Chiswell Middle School, Fort Chiswell High School, Pulaski High School and George Wythe High School. Dewey was preceded in death by paternal grandparents Dewey Edmond "Sonny" and Vivian Lucille "Lucy" Clemons, maternal grandparents Jesse Baine and Annie Cannoy Cress, father-in-law Stanley Crockett. Co-Worker and great friend Phillip Shuler, was waiting at the gates to welcome Dewey home. Dewey is survived by his wife of 32 years, Angie, mother and father Dewey and Junita, sister and brother-in-law Kim and Matt Haga and niece Kylie, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Peggy and Bruce Thomas, mother-in-law Eva Crockett. In lieu of food and flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of SW Virginia 1155 North 4th Street, Wytheville, VA 24382 or Crockett Family Cemetery c/o Adair King 1522 Ridge Avenue, Crockett, VA 24323. Please specify that donations are in memory of Dewey. Dewey served and protected the Town of Wytheville for almost 30 years and now Dewey will continue to help people from Heaven. Pallbearers will be cousin Ronnie Crigger, dear friends Tommy Atkins, Bryan Bard, Brian Evans, David "Chico" Cole, Randy Kirby, Daniel Hamm and Troy Dwayne Black. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Barnett Funeral Home, Wytheville, VA with visitation for family and friends on Wednesday, April 26 from 12 to 1 P. M. with funeral service to follow with Rev. Ted Anders officiating. Dewey will be laid to rest at the Crockett Family Cemetery in Cripple Creek, Virginia.
