December 2, 2023

Urquhart Arthur Wavell II unexpectedly passed away on November 22, 2023, in Corpus Christi, Texas. Born in Corpus Christi on December 10, 1958, Arthur was the youngest of six children to Cecile Cage Wavell and Kenneth Edward Wavell. Arthur graduated from Ray High School, Corpus Christi, in 1978 and received his Bachelor of Arts from Schreiner University in Kerrville, Texas, in 1987. While attending Schreiner, Arthur met Michelle Morav, his wife and best friend of twenty-four years. As a child, Arthur spent many summers swimming in the Guadalupe River and horseback riding in Kerrville, where his family had a summer home. Kerrville has always remained a special place for Arthur and Michelle. In 1991, Arthur's entrepreneurial ambitions began with A Wavell Flagpole LLC, a successful local business. Arthur and his company installed, serviced, and repaired commercial and residential flagpoles while maintaining a retail store in his beloved local community for thirty-two years. When Arthur's father, Ken Wavell, retired from the hardware business, they enjoyed many years working together. Arthur dearly loved his job and greatly valued his many loyal customers. In his free time, Arthur was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting at the family ranch at Lake Corpus Christi, skeet shooting at the C. C. Gun Club, and playing golf. He was a proud member of the Corpus Christi Mustangs, where he volunteered his time. Animals were essential to Arthur's life--he cherished his rescue dog, Star, and his cat, Stripes. Arthur was a true American patriot in every sense. People immediately recognized him as the gentleman wearing the American motif flag suspenders with his pants and shorts. . . even to formal events! He possessed a kind soul and a generous heart and will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. The world is a sadder place without his compassionate nature and gentle smile. Arthur is survived by his wife Michelle, his five siblings, Pamela Clark, Leland Cage Wavell, Claire Essing, Zoe Gottlich, and Kenneth Edward Wavell, Jr. , and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial will be held on Monday, December 11, 2023, at 3:30 pm at St. Bartholemew's Episcopal Church, 622 Airline Road, Corpus Christi, Texas.
