Denny Pollard CHARLESTON - Denny E. Pollard, 69, of rural Charleston, passed away Thursday, September 7, 2023 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. Memorial visitation will be held from 4:00 p. m. to 7:00 p. m. Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at the Harper-Swickard Funeral Home. Masonic Rites by Ashmore Lodge #390 will be held at 7:00 p. m. Denny was born April 7, 1954 in Coles County, Illinois, son of Jerry and Rosella (Wilson) Pollard. He married Lori Harrell, July 27, 1985 at Neoga, Illinois; she survives. Also surviving are his children, Jennifer Pollard (Tyler Horn), Nathan Pollard (Kelsey Stark), and Jordan Pollard (Savannah Johnson) all of Charleston, Leona Scott (Bill) of Toledo, and Michelle Galbreath of Charleston; one sister, Sharon Updegraff (Rick) of Charleston, grandchildren, Shelbie Pollard, Preston Pollard, Owen Pollard, Ava Johnson, Greyson Pollard, Jayce Pollard, Josie Peters (Luke), Austin Scott, Dusten Galbreath, and Shania Paap (Cody). He was preceded in death by his parents. Denny was a life long farmer and truck driver. He was a member and 32nd Degree Mason of the Ashmore Masonic Lodge #390 and was a member of the Ashmore Eastern Star. Denny was a U. S. Army veteran. He loved farming and tending his cattle. Denny loved spending time with his grandchildren.

John was a custodian for Mattoon Community Unit School District 2 where he retired after many years of service. Mr. Mattox's career suited him well as he cared deeply for the staff and students and was diligent in making sure all their needs were met, and the schools were in top shape. John was a big man with a big heart, he loved children and for many years volunteered at the Special Olympics. A full-on sports fanatic, he enjoyed playing football and softball. Jesus came to pick up Myra Lou (Titus) Lang at 5:45 a. m. on Wednesday, December 6, 2023. Surrounded by the love of family and friends, she transitioned to her eternal home, leaving behind a legacy of faith, love, and compassion. Myra was born December 17, 1942, the daughter of William Mac and Loretta Lucille (Knight) Titus. She wed her husband, James Oliver Lang on May 27, 1960 in Charleston, IL; he preceded her in death on September 20, 2017. Myra Lou Lang is survived by her loving family, a testament to her dedication and love. She leaves behind her children, Kimmy Schaefer (Curt) of Charleston, IL, and Ronnie Lang (Suzie) of Keytstone Heights, FL, grandchildren, McLain Schaefer (Kyndy) of Mattoon, IL, Hanna Schaefer of Charleston, IL, Jessica Lang of Palm Bay, FL, Justin Lang of Tucson, AZ, and Sarah Lang of Tucson, AZ; great grandchildren, Dayley, Maverick, and Christian Schaefer, as well as 3 great grandchildren in Tucson, AZ; siblings, Kay Giberson of Charleston, IL, Gail Titus of Tucson, AZ, Kathy Waggoner of Charleston, IL, and David Titus of Sullivan, IL; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, who will carry on her legacy of faith, kindness, and unconditional love. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Jimmy Lang, and grandson, Wade Schaefer. Myra was a 1961 graduate of Charleston High School. She married her high school sweetheart where she devoted her time tending to the needs of her husband and children. Previous employment include General Electric and Ameren CIPS. After retirement from Ameren CIPS, she spent countless hours as support staff for the Charleston School District until May of 2022. She absolutely loved working for them and the staff became family to her through her employment. Myra was a devoted Christian, and her life exemplified the teachings of the Bible. She lived by the words of Proverbs 31:25, "She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future. " Myra faced life's challenges with grace, strength, and an unwavering trust in the Lord. Myra Lou was a member of Home Church (previously named Salisbury Church) in Charleston, IL. She was also a member of the Fields Church in Mattoon, IL. Myra loved attending anything she could, especially her bible study group. A pillar of her community, Myra was a beacon of light and kindness, reflecting the love of Christ to everyone she encountered. Her warm smile and gentle spirit touched the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. Myra's favorite passage, Psalm 23, guided her through life's journey: "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. " Family was the first priority in her life. Myra loved spending time with her family and friends. She was a life master bridge player, enjoyed playing cards, and loved attending Bingo. Myra Lou was also an avid reader and loved to travel. She was always up for an adventure. As we mourn the loss of Myra Lou Lang, let us take solace in the comforting words of John 14:1-3: "Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father's house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. " May we find peace in the knowledge that Myra is now in the arms of her Savior. She is experiencing the joy of eternal life promised by the Lord and reunited with her son, Jimmy Troy, and grandson, Wade. She was born May 28, 1936 in Decatur, IL, the daughter of Robert and Alta (Johnson) Brooks. On December 30, 1955, she married James Ray Isbell in Charleston, IL. She was a gifted crafter including knitting, crotchet, sewing, scrapbooking, doll making, and quilting. She took pride in making quilts for all her kids. Ann loved spending time with her grandchildren. She proudly attended her grandchildren's sporting and dance events, cheering them on when she could. Ann was a fan of watching her kids and grandkids show cattle at the livestock shows. She also enjoyed being involved in the Coles County 4-H and Home Extension programs. Suellyn Lindsey Garner was born on December 7, 1942 in Richland County, IL to Charles H. and Lucile Wiles Lindsey (Cooley). She grew up in Cisne, IL and graduated from Cisne High School in 1959. At age 16, she enrolled at Eastern Illinois University as a Music Education major and stayed on to complete a Master of Arts degree in Music History and Theory. She was a graduate assistant and assistant director of The Easternaires, a song and dance group that was invited by the USO to perform on military bases on the Caribbean for six weeks. During summers, she was a counselor for music and recreation camps and for two years, co-director of them. In 1964, she moved to Franklin Park, IL and became a full-time pianist in the music department at East Leyden High School. The next year, she was hired as the assistant choral director. On June 12, 1966, she married Donald Paul Garner, a speech professor at EIU. They lived in Charleston all their married lives. Suellyn taught music at Charleston Junior High School in 1966. She then established a piano studio from 1967-74 and taught night classes at Lake Land College. From 1974-76, she returned to Charleston Junior High as the music teacher. 1979-80 found her substituting in EIU's music department. In 1981, she wrote a grant and became the director of ABE, Arts in Basic Education. After the ABE program she worked as assistant principal at Jefferson Elementary School and then principal at Carl Sandburg Elementary in Charleston. Since retiring she has volunteered throughout the community with the Charleston Food Pantry, the Welcome Center and Tarble Arts Center at EIU, and most recently with CASA as an advocate for children in the foster system. She was active in the First Presbyterian Church of Charleston as occasional pianist, choir member, and all-around volunteer. She has shared her musical talents with the community since arriving in Charleston in 1959. Suellyn was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Donald P. Garner; mother, Lucile Cooley; brother, Dan Lindsey; sister-in-law Joanna Lindsey; and sister-in-law Oralene Lindsey. She is survived by her sons, Josh Garner (Dedre) and Dirk Garner (Zarina); and four grandchildren, Aidan, MacKenzie, Logan, and Pearce; and her brother Ronald Lindsey. Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 p. m. on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at Adams Funeral Chapel with Reverend Mary E. Wright officiating. He passed away on June 23, 2018. She is survived by four nieces, whom she loved as daughters, and their families. Carla Oakley and husband Phil of Charleston, IL, Donna Trone and husband Randy of Columbia, IL, Michelle Diepholz and husband Rob of Simpsonville, SC, and Jan Crucitti and husband Eric of Terre Haute, IN; her brother, Robert (RC) Walters and his wife Bev of Ashmore, IL; and other extended family including three nieces and a nephew. Robert S. "Bob" Tucker, age 73, of Charleston, IL (previously of Tuscola, IL), went to be with the Lord at 4:53 p. m. on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at Arbor Rose of Charleston, IL with his loving wife by his side. He was born October 26, 1950; the son of Donald Eugene Tucker and Christine Louise (Erickson) Tucker. He married Karen June Buckner in Champaign, IL on October 9, 1971. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Karen Tucker of Charleston, IL; children, Jenni Boyd (Robert) of Tuscola, IL and Brian Tucker of Charleston, IL; grandchildren, Felicia Tucker of Champaign, IL, Alex Tucker of Charleston, IL, Julia Tucker of Chicago, IL, and Tibor Tucker of Chicago, IL; and close family friend, Renee Crane. He is also survived by 2 brothers, 5 sisters, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; uncles, Ray Dean and Douglas Tucker; aunt, Mary Tucker; and niece, Tammy Sue Johnston. Bob was a 1968 graduate of Mattoon High School. After graduation, Bob became a well decorated member of the Army. He proudly served his country in Vietnam earning the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Sharpshooter Medal (Rifle), Army Commendation Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. Bob received honorable discharge in 1973 and began working at LyondellBasell in Tuscola, IL. He began his employment as a maintenance mechanic, later becoming certified as an EMT and firefighter. Bob then honed his skills further to become an inspector and retired after 39 years of dedication to the plant. Bob was a pastor and minister to many for 33 years from 1980-2013. He would minister at many events and healthcare facilities. Later in his life he became a member the First Christian Church in Tuscola, IL. He was a man full of joy and one who had a positive outlook on life, always believing God would provide for all his needs. He was always thinking of ways to lift up others in times of troubles. Putting the needs of others before his own was a trademark in his life. Bob also enjoyed being in the woods for camping, day hikes, backpacking trips, mountain climbing, repelling, and picnics with his family. His fondest climb was Long's Pike in Colorado with his good friend Chuck. He was married to the love of his life for 52 years, and lovingly raised two children who gave him 4 grandchildren to brighten his later years. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday, November 16, 2023 at the Edwards Funeral Home, 221 East Main St. , Arcola, IL 61910. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, November 17, 2023 the funeral home. Pastor Mike Carr will officiate. Burial will follow in the Oakland Cemetery. JR was born on February 11, 1957 in Terre Haute, IN. He was the son of James Roberts and Donnabelle (Cash) Redden. He is survived by three sons, Sturgis John Redden, Cameron Philip Redden and Clayton James Redden all of Charleston, IL, two sisters, Linda Taber and her husband Jim and Shirley Willison and her husband Jerry all of Oakland, IL, one brother, Mike Redden of St. Louis, MO and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. He attended Oakland High School, graduating in 1975. Always striving for personal growth and knowledge, JR pursued higher education at Lake Land College, earning an associate degree shortly after. JR's career in the Coles County Sheriff's Department commenced in the Corrections division, where he exhibited exceptional dedication and commitment to his duties. Over the years, his relentless pursuit of justice propelled him to rise through the ranks, eventually attaining the respected positions of Detective and Lieutenant. Outside of his professional endeavors, JR had a zest for life that was infectious. A lover of speed and adrenaline, he followed NASCAR races. But it was on his motorcycles that he truly felt free—a true adventurer at heart. JR had a talent for cooking and took great pleasure in preparing meals that warmed hearts and filled bellies with pure satisfaction. Thanksgiving was his absolute favorite holiday as he relished creating feasts for loved ones to savor. Among JR's proudest accomplishments were his affiliations with various organizations. He was an esteemed member of the FOP (Fraternal Order of Police) lodge 207—a testament to his dedication to the well-being of his fellow officers. Additionally, he was an active member of the Oakland Masonic Lodge, the Mattoon Eagles, Charleston Moose and Elks clubs, and a devoted Shriners Member. These memberships showcased JR's commitment to camaraderie, community involvement, and making a positive impact wherever he went. He was a member of The Shepherd’s Hook Church of Findlay, IL where he recently grew in his faith and was baptized in December of 2021.
