Dennis Schalesky, 89, Bismarck, ND, formerly of Minot and Burlington, passed away Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at a hospital in Bismarck. Dennis was born February 7, 1934, the son of Jacob and Ruth (Classen) Schalesky, in rural Max. He was raised and educated in the rural Max area. Even though he only had a grade school education, he was far wiser and learned his jobs very quickly. He had worked in the coal mines, on the railroad, driving semi-truck, and construction. He had owned his own semi-trucks. He operated cranes and other construction equipment. When Minot Air Force Base was built, he helped. While working construction he was laid off in the winter months. During those months, he would work on the Minot AFB clearing snow. He met a lot of people and had some good stories to share. The love of his life was Twyla, they were married for 72 years until her passing. He loved all his children, too. Dennis enlisted in the United States Army in 1950. He proudly served his country during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1951. Dennis is survived by his sons, Craig Schalesky, Burlington, ND and Timothy (Angie) Schalesky, Wisconsin; daughters, Carmen (Jackson) Popiel, Carrolton, TX, Tammy Schalesky, Bismarck, and Lisa (Mark) Lisberg, Minot, ND; daughter-in-law Sandy Schalesky, Johnstown, PA; brother, Alwood Schalesky, Montana; brother-in-law; Roscoe (Beatrice) Rhodes, Minot; 14 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; many great-great grandchildren; and numerous other extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Rickie Schalesky; brothers, Paul, Derrold, Wesley, Walter, and Marvin; sisters, Florence, Violet, Ravonne, and Angel; brother-in-law, Chester "Bud" (Helga) Rhodes; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Rhodes, Theta Jean (Fay) Myers, Jacquiline Rhodes, Olive (John) Fulton, Beverly (Paul) Schalesky, Frances (Doug) Carr, and Leila Rhodes; and other extended family. Funeral: Thursday, October 12, 2023, at 1 p. m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot. Interment: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot, ND. Visitation: Wednesday from 5 to 7 p. m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot. Family Prayer Service: Wednesday at 7 p. m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot. Linda McEown, 79, Minot, ND, passed away Thursday, September 21, 2023, at Trinity Hospital surrounded by her family and friends. Ely Linda Olson was born July 16, 1944, the daughter of Leonard and Eugenie (Ness) Olson, in Minot. She was raised and educated in graduating from Minot High School in 1962. Linda married Michael McEown in Minot, ND on August 19,1967. They made their home in Minot where they raised their two children. For 19 years Linda worked for the First District Health Unit and the North Dakota State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors. She also was a licensed notary public and Guardian Ad Litem. She then went on to working as a Ward County Juvenile Court Recorder from which she retired in 2008 after 22 years. Michael passed away March 24, 2022. Linda continued to reside in Minot. She enjoyed many traveling opportunities with all of Mike's conferences and conventions in the US and Canada. She enjoyed many weekends camping in the summer months. She was an avid doll collector and enjoyed spending many summer months working in her garden. Although Linda had many hobbies and interests her grandchildren were always most important to her. She was a member of the Sons of Norway and St. John the Apostle Catholic Church. Her loving family includes:children, Michael (Kelly) McEown and Lisa (Nathan) Burke; grandchildren, Casey Jean McEown, Kaitlyn Brielle McEown, Cody Dylan Burke, Chase Ian Burke, Kellan Nathan Burke; brother, Clarence (Carolyn) Olson; sister, Bonnie (Kevan) Moore; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Michael; brother, Roy Olson; and sister, Genevieve Stewart. Memorial Gathering: Tuesday, September 26 from Noon until 2:00 p. m. at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Minot. Graveside Service: Tuesday, 2:30 p. m. at Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.Show more
