Obituary Dennis W. Rummel, 66, of Ligonier, died Friday October 6, 2023 at Excela Latrobe Hospital. He was born February 10, 1957 in Johnstown the son of Ernest and Lillian Howard Rummel. Dennis was Methodist by faith, had worked as an auto mechanic and belonged to the Fairfield Volunteer Fire Company #1. He enjoyed hunting and held membership to the Ligonier VFW and American Legion. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Tina Shaulis Rummel. He is survived by his son Drew W. Rummel of Sarver, his sisters; Carol Radi (Steve) of Wexford and Amelia Baronie (Dan) of Irwin, and his four grandchildren; Landon, Logan, Lincoln and Lilliana. Friends will be received Monday from 5-8pm in the McCabe Funeral Home, 144 East Main Street, Ligonier where a service will be conducted Tuesday at 11am. Obituary David Kilgore joined the love of his life, Jane up in Heaven on November 8th, 2023 David was born on November November 26, 1929 in Greensburg, Pennsylvania; the son of John Alexander Kilgore and Gail Reynolds Kilgore. He attended Greensburg Area School District and graduated in 1947. He was an Eagle Scout and had Brotherhood Honor/Order of the Arrow. He was enrolled at St Vincent College from 1949-1953 and graduated with a degree in Business. He was drafted into the U. S. Army from 1953-1955 as Spec. 3rd Class as a Supply Specialist based in Japan at Tokorozawa Ordinance Depot. After the army he worked as a sales rep for West Penn Power in Westmoreland County until his retirement in 1991. He was a member of the Elks Club and Rotary Club of which he was president for many years and was honored at being a Paul Harris Fellow in Rotary International. He was a deeply involved member of Covenant Presbyterian Church of Ligonier where he held the positions of Elder, Deacon, and Trustee and was the church Sunday school secretary for many many years. On December 3rd, 1968 David bought a 1 1/2 story cottage in Rector on 3 lots of the Lucy Byers Plan to begin his life there. David married the love of his life, Jane Estelle Butts on February 1st, 1969 in Altoona. They lived in that house in Rector (accumulating the surrounding lots that border Linn Run Road) for over 50 years. They raised 2 sons, Kevin Ross Burket and John Alexander Kilgore. Kevin married Corrinne White and raised four children and John married Jill Nozzi and they raised two children. Jane eventually was admitted to Bethlen Home in 2021 for progressive dementia predeceasing David on May 22, 2022. David moved to be closer with his son's family into a personal care home in Fleetwood, Pa where he died on 11/8/2023. Read MoreShow more

Obituary Dr. James Wesley Allison Jr. 73, is at peace as of November 6th, 2023. He was surrounded by his beloved wife and family. James was a son of the late James Sr. and Carol Allison. He was a graduate of Gateway high school before entering the military. James was a decorated Army Green Beret Specialist veteran having served multiple tours during the Vietnam War. Upon return, he worked for the city of Pittsburgh as a paramedic and then pursued a doctorate degree from Sherman College of Straight Chiropractic. In 1984, he opened Allison Chiropractic Center in Derry, where he and his wife Jean (Brennan) raised their 5 children: Jeremiah (Dina), Joshua (Doriane), Jenny (Scott), Jared (Brianna), and Jamie (Owen). He is the beloved Grandfather to Rune, Tristan, Eric, Russell, Gabriella, Graham, Mackenzie, Allison, and Elliot and brother of Timothy Allison. Jim was a member of LaMonte Lodge #568 F&AM of Derry and the Syria Shriners of Pittsburgh. A memorial gathering will be held at McCabe Funeral Home, 300 W. Third Avenue, Derry, on Thursday, November 16th, 2023, from 4-7pm. A masonic service will be conducted Thursday at 6:45pm in the funeral home followed by his service at 7pm. Jim will be laid to rest at a private interment at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies on Friday, November 17th. Obituary Joy Katherine Simpson Howard, 92, of N. Huntingdon, (formerly of Ligonier), died peacefully Wednesday morning. She was born December 29, 1930 in West Sunbury, a daughter of the late Louis O. and Anna F. Wylie Simpson. Joy was member of the Fort Palmer Presbyterian Church. She was employed for 20years as Deli Manager at the Holiday Park Foodland. Following her passion for real estate, Joy worked as an agent for Prudential Preferred, into her 80's and having received many awards. Having many dear friends in Ligonier she enjoyed sewing, her Dean Ornish Circle and being a social butterfly. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years Ronald W. Howard Sr. , a daughter Pamela A. Baker, a son-in- law Thomas Baker, a grandson Jonathan Lars Huth, her sisters; Carol Simpson-Shaw and Lois Doerr, and her brothers; Louis C. and George F. Simpson. She is survived by her children; Conrad Donald Huth (Loretta) of Freeport, Daniel L. Huth (Debbie) of Templeton and Ronald W. Howard Jr. (Renee) of N. Huntingdon, her daughters; Patty J. Simpson of Ft. Myers,Florida, Joy Anne (Punky) Crawford (Roger) of Cowansville and Cindie R. McCracken (Paul) of Ligonier, twenty-one grandchildren, twenty-nine great grandchildren, four great- great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Her beloved "The Little Dog" Murphy. Terry A. (Wannamaker) Hall, 64, of Latrobe, passed away November 4, 2023 at Independence Health System Latrobe Hospital. She was born on April 30, 1959 in Latrobe a daughter of the late Richard and Shirley "Bubbee"(Shrum) Wannamanker-Spewock. Prior to retirement Terry worked at Wal-Mart. She loved going to the casino and playing slots, bingo and spending time with her grandchildren. Besides her parents Terry was preceded in death by her step-father Samuel Spewock; two brothers Dennis Wannamaker and Danny Wannamaker; and infant sister Angel. Terry is survived by her husband of 25 years, Richard L. Hall; five children Tara Rager and husband Mike, Steve Klim and wife Michele, Rick Hall III and Brenda, Christine Klim, and Zack Hall; four brothers Gary Wannamaker and wife Donna, Kevin Wannamaker and wife Bonny, Chuck Piper and wife Wendy, and Joe Piper and wife Tracy; one sister Linda Goulding ; nine grandchildren Morgan, Daniel, Leila, Brenden, Kira, Dominick, Kaiden, McKenzie, and Easton; step-mother Joanne Wannamaker; best friend Joyce Shafran and husband Frank; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Obituary Helene Scholes Moore of Laughlintown, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2023, at Brookdale Care Home in Latrobe, Pennsylvania. Born in Indiana, PA, on May 14, 1936, Helene's legacy is one of love, accomplishment, and a profound connection to the pursuits she held dear. She graduated from Indiana High School in 1954 and earned a bachelor of science from Pennsylvania State University in 1959 with a certificate in medical technology. At Penn State, she was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. Helene worked for several years as a medical technologist and in a lab at Montefiore Hospital in Pittsburgh before focusing on raising her two sons. She also had a great love for literature. She did graduate work in literature at the University of Pittsburgh, where she developed a lifelong love of the novels of Jane Austin. On August 18, 1961, she married Richard (Dick) William Moore. They were married for 44 years until his death in April 2006. Helene is survived by her two sons, David and Brian (Renee), and three cherished grandchildren, Sydney, Ronan, and Eamon. A woman of many passions, in the 1970s, Helene began an interest in the art of nature printing. She became an active member of the Nature Printing Society, serving as Secretary and Newsletter Editor for several years. Several of her nature prints were featured in a Smithsonian Museum traveling exhibition on the art that toured the country. Helene's love for Weimaraners led her into the world of dog breeding when she founded the kennel Sirius Weimaraners. She took great pride in the remarkable success of her dogs in obedience, companion, field, hunting, natural ability, and retrieving competitions. Notably, one of her dogs was inducted into the WCA Hall of Fame, and another won the Weimaraner National Field Trial Championship. Helene's passion for her dogs expanded when she joined the North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association (NAVHDA), where she was one of the very first female judges in Pennsylvania. Other Weimaraner breeders acknowledge her as restoring the breed of Weimaraner as a prominent hunting dog. In Pittsburgh, she and Dick formed a bond with fellow members of the 3rd Presbyterian Church. This bond of friendship lasted Helene's entire life and continues today through her surviving friends and their children. Dick, Helene, and their friends moved to the 6th Presbyterian Church, where Helene served as a Deacon for several years. Upon moving to Laughlintown, PA, she and Dick joined St. Michaels of the Valley Episcopal Church in Rector, PA.
