Palm Harbor, FL
Dennis Trafton Phillips was born in Norfolk, Virginia. After graduating from Norview High School, he joined the Air Force and began basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. He excelled in his training and became a Morse code interceptor while stationed at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi. Dennis was one of the top three students in his class, which allowed him to choose his base of service during the Vietnam War. He selected Bendezi, Italy, where he served with distinction. Dennis was released from active duty from the Air Force on May 27, 1965, as an Airman Second Class. He continued to serve his country as a member of the reserves and was discharged with a rank of Airman First Class in 1970. Dennis loved his time with the Jaycees in Virginia and received the Governor's Club Award from Governor Godwin for his contributions to the state of Virginia. Later in life, he developed a passion for collecting old diecast model cars and amassed an impressive collection that filled his apartment. Dennis was a dedicated family man who loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild deeply. He will be remembered as a loving father and grandfather who always put his family first. Dennis is survived by his four daughters: Susan Parmalee (Robert Parmalee), Jennifer Phillips (Scott Harrison), Elizabeth Lawrence (Brad Lawrence), and Melinda Phillips (Terry Johnson); eleven grandchildren: Jonathan Parmalee (Trinity Parmalee), Nicholas Parmalee, Katherine Parmalee, Victoria Day, Rebecca Lawrence, Aaliyah Day, Hannah Lawrence, Evangeline Harrison, Juliet Harrison, Danielle Lawrence, and Katya Day; one great-grandchild: Jaxson Parmalee; and his sister: Patricia Hill (Marvin Hill). He is also survived by his loving former spouse Susan Phillips with whom he reconciled before his passing. In lieu of flowers, the family would like any donations to be sent to V. A. Bay Pines Facility in Florida for their wonderful staff and assistance during our difficult time. You can submit donations online here:https://www. cdceportal. va. gov/donate_online/
