William Dennis Combs, Sr. Dennis Combs, a 94 year old resident of Jacksonville, passed away Saturday, June 18, 2022 at Terra Bella Senior Living in Raleigh, North Carolina. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 22, 2022 at Trinity Methodist Church. Burial, with military honors and Masonic Graveside Rites, will follow at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery. Dennis was born September 10, 1927 in Macon, Georgia to Grover Cleveland Combs and Minnie Lee Molton Combs. He had three siblings who preceded him in death; Grover Cleveland Combs Jr, Dorothy Jane Combs (Griffin), and Toby Combs. He also had many nieces and nephews who he loved. He was married to Katherine Gladys Wilson Combs and they had five children; Linda Diane Lineberger, (Timothy), William Dennis Combs, Jr. (passed), Tracy Gail Schott, Thomas Marshall Combs, (Ellen), Steven Glenn Combs,(Susan). Dennis also had ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Dennis joined the CCC Camps during the Depression at age of fourteen where youths cleared land for military bases. He then joined the United States Marine Corps at age sixteen where he served his country for twenty seven years and was a Mustang where he rose through the ranks from a private to a Captain. He served in WWII and Korea. He then began his working journey with Onslow Memorial Hospital where he was hired to be the Food Service Administrator. He next became the Assistant Administrator of the hospital and he retired as full Administrator after working a total of seventeen years. Dennis was a dedicated Master Mason for fifty-four plus years with a 33rd Degree. He was a life member of Lafayette Lodge #83 and honorary member of five other Lodges. Dennis was on the board of Trustees of the Masonic Children's Home at Oxford, NC for three years. Dennis performed the Masonic graveside rites for forty-five years. Dennis was also a Sojourner, Scottish Rite and an Onslow County Shriner. Dennis served his community faithfully as a member of Trinity Methodist Church. He was a past President of Jacksonville Country Club, Jacksonville Kiwanis, and served on the Board of Trustees of Coastal Carolina Community College.
