Joseph William “Joe Bill” Homan, age 95, of Springfield, KY passed away Thursday, February 22, 2024 at his home. A native of Washington County, he was born on July 8, 1928 to the late Joseph Thomas and Julia Mae Carney Homan. He was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, a 1946 graduate of Springfield High School and a member of the Springfield Masonic Lodge # 50 F & AM. Joe Bill spent his lifetime as a cattle and tobacco farmer in the Mooresville Community on the farm he was raised. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, was a former director of the Washington County Farm Bureau, a longtime director of the Washington County Co-Op Tobacco Warehouse and a former director of the Washington County Soil Conservation District. Preceding him in death was his wife, Ruth Scott Homan on October 1, 2009; a brother, Frank Monroe Homan on September 13, 2018 and two sisters, Nancy Barr Goatley on October 20, 2021 and Mary Tom Grider on January 18, 2022. Survivors include his son, Joseph Thomas “Tommy” Homan and his wife, Jennifer of Springfield; his granddaughter, Savannah Lee Homan and three sisters, Sarah Ethel Keeling (John Edward) of Springfield, Mattie Greer of Bardstown and Margaret Jackson of LaGrange. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, February 25th at the Carey & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Greer, officiating. Burial will be in the New Hope Cemetery. A native of Washington County, he was born on April 10, 1938 to the late John William and Zula Devine Carey. He attended the former Battle Baptist Church where he served as the song leader for many years. He was a farmer, painter and he enjoyed playing the guitar and he and his wife enjoyed singing together. Mr. Joshua James Childers, age 39, was born on February 16, 1984, in Elizabethtown, KY, and passed away unexpectedly on January 5, 2024, at his home in Springfield, KY. Joshua is survived by his parents, Deb and Wolfgang James Childers; his wife, Shannon Childers; his son, Spencer James Childers (his mother-Kristin); his stepdaughter, Brooklyn Stanley; his siblings, James Edward (Joann), Patrick, Precious, Jordan, and Brittney; his grandchildren, Tayshon and Zion Goodman; his nieces and nephews, Ayden, Gavyn, Rylee, Kenadi, Ava Rose, Luna, CJ and Lukas; his godmother, Kim Honaker; his godfather, Tom Johnson; along with many aunts, uncles, and cousins who loved him. Joshua was preceded in death by his beloved grandmother, Allie Moran; his aunt, Francis Williams; his uncle, Roger Moran; and many other family members who are embracing him as he enters into heaven. Joshua attended North Newton High School in Morocco, IN and earned his GED in 2002 with a 98% top score in Indiana that year. Joshua has many accomplishments such as his son, Spencer, who was his pride and joy from the first breath he took. He was a welder at heart. It was a trade he learned at the age of 14 years old and was taught by his daddy. He was an iron worker for many years. Also, being married to his beautiful wife, Shannon, they built a business together called Bluegrass Chimney Sweep. A memorial service to celebrate Joshua’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at the chapel of the Hager Funeral Home, with Rev. Tom Curry officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM until the time of service on Saturday. In honor of Josh’s heart for helping others, expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to any mental health, addiction, or recovery program. Norma Jean Hardesty Campbell, age 92, of Springfield, KY passed away at 8:15 p. m. , Thursday, December 7, 2023 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville. A native of Washington County, she was born on June 10, 1931 to the late Obie Thomas "O. T. " and Norene Stumph Hardesty. She was a member of the Springfield United Methodist Church, a graduate of Springfield High School and a devoted homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother. Norma Jean was well known for her artistic ability teaching many different groups, homemakers, school classes and a volunteer 4-H leader. She enjoyed creating naturally dyed art from the wool of the sheep she raised and sheared herself. Mrs. Campbell was well known for hosting luncheons for different local groups in her historic home. Preceding her in death was her husband, Virgil Ray Campbell on August 28, 2021 and her sister, Katharyn Bland on August 24, 2015. She was born in Jefferson County on October 4, 1930 to the late Evan, Sr. and Anna Belle Gibbs Keeling. She was a member of the Springfield Baptist Church, a homemaker and committed wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She is a retired employee of the Washington County School System. Preceding her in death was her husband, Elvin Elwood Breeding, Sr. on February 6, 2014; a son, Elvin E. Breeding, Jr. on September 30, 2019; three sisters, Carolyn Sue Jewell, Mattie Lucille Goodlett and Edna Frances Atcher and four brothers, Thomas Larkin Keeling, James Edward Keeling, Charles Herbert Keeling and Evan Keeling, Jr. Survivors include a daughter, Pamela Joyce Breeding of Springfield; two sons, Jackie Lee Breeding of Bardstown, and Michael Anthony Breeding of Lexington; nine grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren; ten great great grandchildren and five sisters, Louise Collins, Effie Cox and Amy Rosella Hilbert and her husband Gayle all of Taylorsville, Betty Catherine Atha of Frankfort and Sarah Ann Terry of Salem, Indiana. Elizabeth loved cooking, canning, and working in her yard and garden. She enjoyed a special relationship with her granddaughter Jessica Smith and her two sons Tate and Chase.
