Denis Mark Abrams, 68, of Swanzey, son of Donald F. Abrams and Avis M. Abrams passed away peacefully on May 3, 2023 surrounded by his family after a ten-month battle with cancer. He was born in Keene, July 24, 1954, and was a resident of Cheshire County his entire life. Denis served as an officer of the law for almost 30 years and retired as a Sheriff's Deputy in 2021. Denis is survived by his loving wife Patricia, his four daughters (all of which are his favorite) Kimberlee and husband Marc; Kristen and husband Nick, their children Keegan, Jayda, Glynnis and Owen; Julie and her son Evan; and Cheri and husband Christopher and their children Aidrix, Ezra, Vaelynn, and Lux. Denis has four siblings and three siblings in law. His brother David and Bonnie Abrams; brother Donnie and Iryna Abrams; and sister Jodi and David Brooks; sister Joni and Todd Johnson; sister-in-law Sharon and Robert Butler; and sister-in-law AnnMarie Olsen Geitner and Paul and fourteen nieces and nephews. In addition, Denis has an extremely large extended family and he loved them all. Denis' main priority in his life was his family. From the day he met his wife, Patricia, he reported back to his family "I'm going to marry that woman someday. " With his wit, good cooking, handy work and dangerously good looks, he did just that. There wasn't a time in Denis' life that he wasn't surrounded by his girls. There were many exciting and fun phases of Denis' life: the cowboy, the snowmobiler, the farmer, and the biker dude but he was always a husband and father first. His girls were always in tow to his rodeos, hitting into something with their snowmobiles, often breaking something, and always on the back of his bike going to bike week. He taught them how to be strong (stronger than most boys), how to hunt, fish, and about hard work. He led by example in every aspect of his life showing them the value of honesty, integrity, loyalty, faith and that being rich isn't about money, it's about how full of life and love your life is. Denis was the brave leader of these five wild women and did it with pride, grace, and his own spunky personality. It was difficult not to notice Denis, not only because of his size, his intimidating voice, or the gun he usually had strapped to his waist; but because of his smile, his selfless actions, his love for his family, and faith in God. His wife and daughters were his life and when he became a grandfather, that pride and love only grew. He had 9 grandchildren and he took every opportunity to be a part of their lives that he could. He went on family vacations, went to the White Mountains, camping, Mexico and many other adventures to soak up every single moment he could with them. He chose a career where his influence, really scary voice, intimidating size, and love for God actually helped change a lot of lives. He was proud to protect and serve his county and was a man of the law for almost 30 years. He built strong relationships with not only his peers but also the men and women he "had in the back of his cruiser. " He was literally the strongest man this side of the Mississippi. Even the men and women he worked with would comment on seeing Denis move objects or break down doors that two men couldn't do. When Denis was diagnosed with cancer his strength is what gave him another 10 months to live when they gave him only 8 weeks. Denis was the 43rd person in the world to be diagnosed with Omentum cancer. A rare cancer for a rare man. All who knew Denis are lucky enough to carry some sort of wild, beautiful and funny story of the man who seemed to be larger than life. We were all lucky and beyond blessed to have had Denis in our lives no matter how long or short of time it was. The world will forever miss Denis' sense of humor, his laugh, his bluntness, his selfless actions, his strength, his love, his faith, his loyalty, and his genuine, one-of-a-kind personality. We love you forever. Over the last few days his family has received many messages of condolences all of which say how amazing of a man he was. There are endless stories of "I'll never forget the time your dad", and followed with a story of how Denis did something no one would ever consider doing, or he did a selfless act or saved the day in some heroic way. The family takes so much comfort in these stories and love hearing the words of admiration about the man they adored so much. It's become important to the family to hear these stories to make us laugh and cherish all the times spent with him. This is why the family is asking guests of his services to bring a favorite written memory of Denis, a favorite Denis saying or something you loved and will remember about him. These written notes will be shared within the family for years to come. If you forget to bring something there will be index cards, pens and a box to put these sacred moments in. Calling hours will be held from on Friday May 12th from 4-8 pm at Fletcher Funeral Home located at 33 Marlboro St. Keene, NH. His Funeral Service will be held on Saturday May 13th at 10 am at Keene Church of the Nazarene located at 55 Maple St. Keene, NH. Burial will be held at a later date privately with immediate family at Mountain View Cemetery in Keene, NH.
