Jered Little

Nov 04, 1979 - Nov 24, 2023

location-icon

Jackson, KY

Jared Dale Little, 44 of Arlington Va. formerly of Jackson, Ky passed away Friday November 24th. His father Jerry Little, like Jered was also a veteran and his loving mother Diane Salyers Little an educator. Because of Jerry, Diane, and Jered's intellect and hard work, Jared was, unsurprisingly the Valedictorian of his high school class. He also played varsity football. After high school Jered attended Morehead State University and thrived at the collegiate level. It was at MSU that Jered first joined the military, serving in the schools ROTC program. Jered graduated from Morehead in 2002 and commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Army's Medical Service Corps. Jered's Army career was nothing less than extraordinary. He was assigned to Fort Mcpherson in Atlanta, Georgia; US Army Garrison Daegu in the Republic of South Korea; Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Fort Lewis, Washington; Fort Leavenworth, Kansas; Fort Knox, Kentucky; Tripler Army Medical Center Campus, Hawaii; Fort McNair in D. C. and Falls Church, Virginia. From those locations, Jered deployed to Egypt; Israel; Afghanistan (three times); Kuwait and Iraq. At home and abroad, Jered served in a number of critical assignments. Most notably, Jered commanded, an astonishing three times. Two company-level commands and amazingly, a battalion command. During Jereds first company command in South Korea he met the love of his life Kate who was assigned to the same unit. They met and quickly fell in Love. As they both put it, "they met their soulmates in Seoul. " Jered was wonderful in every way and lived life to the fullest. He had an insatiable curiosity, a contagious laugh, and a great sense of humor. He read books and articles voraciously, loved film, traveling, restaurants, and history. He loved his Mom and Dad, his country and his Army service. Those were his passions, and essentially the reason everyone he met loved him and always will. After their wedding, Jered and Kate gave the world one of the greatest, loving marriages imaginable. That loving marriage resulted int the two greatest gifts that this family could have ever asked for: Emma and John. John may be Kate's mini me, but Emma looks just like her Daddy. To say that Jered was a wonderful father would be the understatement of the century. Jered will live forever through Emma and John; through Kate; through the impact that he made on his soldiers; and the impact that he made on our country through his over two decades of Army service. During the 21 years of Jered's Army service he excelled at the highest level in everything he ever did in the Army. He was always rated at the highest level and was considered a top performer. He was selected for promotion early; he was promoted to full Colonel. He was selected to attend the Eisenhower School for National Security and Resource Strategy; and also the Army Command and General Staff College. That performance enhanced our national defense, improved soldiers' lives and made an indelible impact on our country. Because of that impact, Jered was recently inducted into the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels, which is the highest honor bestowed by the Governor. Jered was and incredible man, husband, father, son and soldier. He had an amazing life that we must celebrate. We are all better people, and have enriched lives for having known, and for loving Jered. We will have a better future because we knew and love him. His legacy is his two beautiful children, and because of him, that legacy will flourish and thrive forever. Thank you Jered for gracing us with your love, your friendship and your service. Thank you God for giving us Jered! Jered leaves behind his loving Mother - Diane Salyers Little; Wife - Kate, Children - Emma & John. He was preceded in death by his Father Jerry Little; Paternal Grandparents- David Litle & Mildred Morris Little/Anderson; Paternal Grandparents-Kelson & Vina Rudd Salyers. Jered was honored with a memorial service in Pittsburg Penn. and will have a local memorial service at a later date.
