Megan Christina Church, of Lansing, died on Friday, February 23, 2024 after a long battle with depression and anxiety.Megan was born on April 29, 1990 in St. Johns, Michigan, the youngest of two children born to Steve and Sharon (Schomisch) Bassette. Megan attended St. Johns and Ovid/Elsie schools and settled in Lansing.Megan was thoughtful and soft-hearted, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need and putting others needs before her own. She was serious when needed, smart beyond her years, had a great sense of humor and a free spirit.Megan was a beacon of creativity and dedication. She was a talented artist who loved to paint and draw, enjoyed crafting, web design, helping run elections, and was the proud owner of her own business, Urban Lavender. She grew lavender, made hand-crafted lavender-based bath products, attended festivals, won a startup competition, was featured in a news interview. Her goal was to promote mental self-care, be a beacon of support to the community, empower mothers and inspire entrepreneurs.Above all else, Megan was an active and loving mother to Wyatt and Memphis. She loved and cherished her boys more than anything in the world.She is survived by her two beloved sons, Wyatt Harrison Donnelly-Church and Memphis James “MJ” Church; her parents, Sharon and Steve Bassette; her brother, Steve (Nicole) Bassette Jr.; nephews, Adam Keith and Noah Nicolas; her grandmother, Helene (the late Bill) Delosh, as well as many aunts, uncles, great aunts and uncles, cousins and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Lester and Rosie Schomisch, Bill Delosh and Keith Bassette.A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, February 29, 2024, 11 AM at McGeehan Funeral Home, Keck-Coleman Chapel. Mark Eric “Ricky” Jackson, age 66, of Lansing, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly on February 17, 2024 after a short illness. Mark was born on October 26, 1957, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the son of Willie B. and Helen G. (Hooper) Jackson, who have preceded him in death.Ricky was known for his affectionate smile and impeccable style of dressing. He would change clothing at least three times a day, but when the music came on, he was smooth as silk on the dance floor. He also had a deep love for dogs. Ricky will be sorely missed by his loved ones.Along with his parents, Mark is preceded in death by his brother, Willie B. Jackson Jr., and sister, Sonya Yevette Jackson. He is survived by his longtime companion, Karen Moore; sons, Marck (Tracie) Jackson of Capital Heights, Maryland, and Aaron (Stephanie) Jackson of Lansing, Michigan; daughter, Markeesha Brooks; grandchildren: Travon, Tiara, Tianna, and Anilah. He will be sadly missed by siblings: Kevin (Donna) Jackson, Faith Jackson, and Andrew Jackson (Shenaida Jackson), all of Philadelphia and Brenda D. Whiting. Remembered with love by aunts, Juanita Frison and Karen Mills, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.A memorial service honoring Mark’s life will be held at a later date. Eugene Stanley Schmitt

Eugene Stanley Schmitt from Lansing MI, aged 87, passed away on Thursday, February 22, 2024. He was born February 21, 1937, to Jacob and Anna Schmitt of Muskegon, Michigan. Eugene graduated from Muskegon Catholic Central High School in 1955, Macomb County Community College in 1972, and Wayne State University in 1975, with a B.S. in Criminal Justice. At the age of 18, he enlisted in the Army National Guard of Michigan and was honorably discharged in August of 1963. Eugene graduated from the Michigan State Police Recruit School in 1964. He was stationed at the Battle Creek Post, Warren Post, and New Baltimore Post in Michigan. He was promoted to Detective Sergeant and assigned to the Special Investigations Unit in Detroit Intelligence and later to the Organized Crime Unit. In 1973, Eugene joined the staff of the Fire Marshal Division of the Michigan Department of State Police. He was promoted to First Lieutenant and retired in February of 1995. Additionally, Eugene was an usher and greeter at St. Therese Catholic Church. He worked for the St. Vincent Food Pantry located at his church. Lastly, he was a Third Degree member of the Knights of Columbus for 45 years. On September 6, 1958. Eugene married his high school locker and homeroom friend Eleanor Schomogyi at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Muskegon Heights, MI. They celebrated 61 happy and blessed years together, until her passing on September 5, 2020. Eugene was the pillar of family, who loved others unconditionally. He dedicated his life to his family, friends, and the service of others. Eugene was a humble, kind, and selfless man, who was deeply rooted in the Catholic faith. Eugene was an avid runner, who completed countless 5K and 10K races. He jogged into his 70s. He was also an avid cyclist, who conquered the DALMAC several times, rode a Rocky Mountains Race in Colorado, and rode the Oregon coastline. Eugene enjoyed traveling and vacationing with his family and friends. He also loved building puzzles and playing cards. Eugene is survived by his three children, Brian (Krisanne) Schmitt, Sheri (Jerry) Tuesburg, and Karen (Brian) Grass; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Jerry (Sue) Schmitt; sister, Cecilia Kerr; sisters-in-law, Theresa (Roy) Farrell, Pat (Frank) Schomogyi, and Evelyn (Joe) Horvath; brother-in-law, Mike (Dawn) Schomogyi; and many nieces, nephews, and special friends. Eugene is preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Anna Schmitt; sisters, Katherine (Bud) Scofield, Madeline Schmitt, Martha (Bob) Beauleaux, Joyce (Jim) Muston, and Margaret (John) Houseman; and brothers, Jake Schmitt and Charles (Theresa) Schmitt. Visitation will be held from 9:00 am to 11:00 am on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at St. Therese Catholic Church, 102 Randolph St., Lansing. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. John Fain at 11:00 am. The Rite of Committal will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. A luncheon will follow at 2:00 pm at St Therese Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the St. Vincent Food Pantry at St. Therese Catholic Church or St. Therese Catholic Church. Our dear mother, Dorothy, passed away peacefully at home on February 22nd, surrounded by her family and caregivers. She was born on November 16, 1925 to Elizabeth and Joseph Stump. She was raised in Lansing where she lived most of her life. She graduated from Haslett High School in 1944. In 1946, she married our father, Bill, and they were married for 25 years. In 1989, she married Cecil Richards who preceded her in death in 2004. She was a member of the Church of the Resurrection for many years. She was predeceased by her parents, Elizabeth and Joseph; her sister, Judy; and brothers, Tom and Fred and sister-in-laws, Phyllis Stump and Catherine Stump. She is survived by her son, John Parrish; grandson, Cale of Crested Butte Colorado; daughter, Kay Zink (David) of Lansing; step-grandchildren, Mark Zink (Lori) of Holland; great-grandsons, Bryce and Nolan also of Holland, Michelle Earle (Geordie) of Jupiter Florida; great-granddaughter, Sarah; and great-grandsons, Jack and James. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. She also had three dear friends, Betty Durst, Gloria Eurich and Dorothy Price. After she remarried and retired from MSU in 1989, she moved to Wolverine Michigan where she lived until 2003. She then returned to Lansing to be closer to her family where she remained in her own home per her wishes. A visitation for Dorothy will be held on Sunday, February 25, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, with the rosary being prayed at 7:00 PM, at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes Lansing Chapel, 900 E Michigan Ave., Lansing, MI 48912. A Mass of Christian Burial will occur on Monday, February 26, 2024 at 11:00 AM, with a one-hour prior visitation from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, at Church of the Resurrection, 1505 E Michigan Ave., Lansing, MI 48912. Following Mass, there will be a luncheon at the church. Dorothy will be laid to rest next to her parents and brother, Tom, at St. Mary Cemetery, 14546 W Price Rd., Westphalia, MI 48894. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Dorothy's memory may be made to Mother Teresa House, 308 N Walnut St., Lansing, MI 48933. She will be missed dearly. If she has brought you laughter, comfort, friendship or love or made you feel that you mattered, then her life was well lived. She will see you again.

Lansing, Michigan. Born August 18, 1943 in Lansing, Michigan daughter of J. Lynn and Marian (Oppenlander) Corey passed away Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at the age of 80. Jennie was a 1961 graduate of Grand Ledge High School and went on to receive 2 Master’s degrees, 1 in speech and language pathology and the other in counseling. She worked for Grand Ledge Public Schools for 30 years; first as a Teacher and then as a Speech Pathologist. Jennie was a long-time member of St. Andrew Orthodox Church in East Lansing. Surviving are her husband of 49 years, Donald Dimitroff; 2 children, Kathy (Eric) Tober and Donald Dimitroff II (Allan Smillie); granddaughter, Katlyn Tober (Zac Warber), and many nieces, nephews, and other extended family members. Jennie was preceded in death by her father, J. Lynn Corey; her mother, Marian Colt; brother, Edward Corey and sister, Joyce Frambes. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 1, 2024 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. Burial will be private. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Friday for 1 hour prior to the service.
