Funeral services Thursday, September 14, 2023 at 11:00 a. m. , St. Thomas Baptist Church, 4699 St. Thomas Road, Bolton, MS 39041 with burial in St. Thomas Memorial Garden, 4699 St. Thomas Road, Bolton, MS 39041.

May 20, 1938 - December 4, 2023 Charles Edwin "Charlie" Banes, 85, of Raymond Mississippi, met the loving embrace of our Heavenly Father while holding the hands of his girls on Monday, December 4, 2023. Charlie was born on May 20, 1938 to Edwin and Josie Banes of Raymond. He was a 1957 graduate of Raymond High School and received degrees from Hinds Community College and Mississippi State University. He retired from the Hinds County Sheriff Office in 2006. Charlie had a passion for livestock. He enjoyed being a change in the industry, supporting junior livestock events and sharing his cattle knowledge with 4-H and FFA youth across the state of Mississippi. His biggest treasure was his family. He loved laughter and seeing people smile. His quick wit will be immeasurably missed by all who knew him. Charlie was married to his sweetheart Geraldine Land Banes for 56 years together. They had two daughters Sandra Banes Stocks and Janet Banes Mohler (Chuck) who thought their dad hung the moon. He was the best Granddaddy to Carly Grace Stocks, Ty Lausan Mohler and Charles Seth Mohler. Charlie is also survived by his sister. Gail Banes Reid and a host of niece and nephews that truly loved their Uncle Charlie. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Josie Banes, sisters, Pattie Mae Dodson, Caroline Nuckolls, Marilyn Daniel, brother, Aubrey Banes, and son-in-law, Chad Stocks. Visitation will be at Hinds Independent Methodist Church in Raymond on Thursday, December 7, 2023 from 1 to 2 PM. Service will be held at 2 PM celebrating Charlie's life. Pallbearers will be Ty Mohler, Seth Mohler, Chuck Mohler, Brad Banes, Ben Washburn, Steven Bell, Kyle Lewis and Russell Bozeman. Honorary pallbearers will be Alvin Woods, Greg Lott, Clyde Lott, Gordon Bain, John Ed Washburn and Mark Williams. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Hinds County 4H Livestock Show Scholarship Fund or Hinds Independent Methodist Church.Show more
