Dejuan Griffin - 36
June 11, 2022
Memphis, TN
Dejuan Latez Griffin, also affectionally known as "Earl", of Memphis, Tennessee, was born on October 31, 1985, to Janice Matthews and Michael Griffin. Dejuan was an energetic and inspiring child, as he also grew up to remain that way. Dejuan was a true Hamiltonian, attending the elementary, middle and high schools. He definitely liked reminding people that he once was chosen to appear on the Knowledge Bowl because he was so smart! Dejuan departed life and returned to his heavenly home on June 11, 2022. Dejuan was the epitome of what a husband and father should be. Dejuan carried a heart bigger than a piece of gold for everyone he encountered and was always willing to help others, even when it wasn't the most popular decision. Dejuan showed his Christ-like character in the way he extended his hands to be the face of God to so many. He had a smile that left a lasting impression on everyone that he came in contact with. He was a very loving and caring person with a big heart and a one-of-a-kind soul. He was full of life, love, happiness and fun. He carried the weight of his entire family on his back with zero complaints. He was a devoted father to all his kids as well as nieces and nephews, calling all of them "his favorites". His tragic death has hurt his family to the core, as Dejuan can never be replaced. Dejuan met Ashley in 2008 at a high school football game. They were married in October of 2020. The family unit was unique, yet full of love. They were from different worlds but learned so much from each other. They were different in the beginning but adopted a lot of each other's ways and ended up two peas in a pod. They became the backbone for each other. They shared fourteen years together and became best friends. Dejuan leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife, Ashley; five daughters, Teariney, Daniya, Destiny, Deanne, and Daelyn; two sons, Drake and Dylan; his mother, Janice Matthews; father, Michael Griffin; his grandmother, Shirley Matthews; five sisters, Shantae, Danniesha, Jenise, Kenetra and Willesha; two brothers, Derrick and Michael; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and close friends. Dejuan was preceded in death by his sister, Danyell. The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 22, 2022 from 9:00am-11:00am with a funeral service to follow at 11:00am both will be held at New Friendship Baptist Church 1490 Gold Ave Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave Memphis, TN.
