Age - 87

Priscilla Young Dodge, age 87, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2023 at The Village at Brookwood after a period of declining health. She was born Priscilla Jean Young on August 31, 1935 in Somerville, Massachusetts to George Felton Young and Lillian Mae Perkins Young, and was the devoted wife of 61 years to John Edmondson Dodge. Priscilla graduated from Arlington High School in Arlington, Massachusetts, and from Northeastern University in Boston with an electrical engineering degree. During college she did co-op work on electrical and mechanical equipment at the National Bureau of Standards in Washington, D. C. After graduating from Northeastern she worked for the CIA for a short time before joining defense contractor Atlantic Research Corporation in Springfield, Virginia. At ARC Priscilla was a technical writer and editor on classified electronic testing projects in Arizona, California, and Virgina including the ATHENA multi-stage intercontinental ballistic missile and the NSA TEMPEST program focused on shielding electronic equipment from eavesdropping attempts. She met John at ARC, and they enjoyed sailing trips to places such as the Bahamas. A talented pianist, Priscilla also studied the violin in her younger years. A favorite memory growing up in the Boston suburbs was the summer her mother got her and her sister Nancy a pony, Ginger. The girls had fun giving friends pony wagon rides around the block. As an adult Priscilla enjoyed sewing and needlework, oil painting, bowling, bridge, cooking (her corn pudding was a holiday favorite), and not least, baking (including her signature chocolate chip cookies). She was also known for her beautiful flower garden, bountiful vegetable garden, and the many birds that would frequent her backyard birdfeeders and birdbaths. Priscilla was a long- time resident of Annandale, Virginia where she was an active member of the Annandale United Methodist Church and the Annandale Women’s Club. Priscilla enjoyed annual family vacations to visit her mother in Sandwich, Massachusetts on Cape Cod, and Dodge family reunions held different places around the country every two years. A loving mother to sons Mike and Paul, she hosted Cub Scout meetings, helped score swim meets, cheered at rowing races, and delivered the boys to music lessons, sports practices, school activities, and more. She doted on granddaughters Elena and Grace, treasuring time spent with them. Trips and meals with friends and family were also among Priscilla’s favorite activities. Survivors include son Michael Lawrence Dodge and his wife Kara VanHooser of Snow Camp, North Carolina; son Paul Edmondson Dodge of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware; granddaughters Elena Marie Dodge and Grace VanHooser Dodge; and several nieces and nephews. Priscilla was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her sister, Nancy Lillian Young Paradise.
