"Herbert Lee McGrew, 92, born Flora, IL 04/01/1931 - died Atlanta, GA 09/12/2023 He was a beloved \u0026amp; loving brother, husband, uncle, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, \u0026amp; friend. He is survived by his wife of 70 years Mary S. (Jean) McGrew, Centre, AL. Other survivors include his 5, children: Deborah McGrew, Centre, AL; W. Douglas (Tammy) McGrew, Cedar Bluff, AL; Janet (Grant) Stein, Atlanta, GA; Herb (Robyn) McGrew, Midway, GA; \u0026amp; David (Sharon) McGrew, McDonough, GA; 13 grandchildren: Heather (Brandon) Wyatt, Mary Lyn Stein (Jon Levy), Joshua Stein (Lindsey Anderson), Breanna (Adam) Genecov, Christopher (Emily) McGrew, Sara Spires, Meggan McGrew, Rachel McGrew, Bradley McGrew, Kristin Cochran, Ryan (Kim) McGrew, Sean McGrew, \u0026amp; Joe McGrew; 10 great-grandchildren: Haydon Wyatt, Savannah Wyatt, Benjamin Levy, Adira Levy, Freya Stein Anderson, Herschel Stein Anderson, Callie McGrew, Annie McGrew, Christina Cochran, \u0026amp; Noah Cochran; 2 sisters: Laura King, Caseyville, IL; Thelma Fortson, Orange, CA; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, \u0026amp; friends. He was preceded in death by parents Mary Jane \u0026amp; Harold McGrew; brothers Harlan, Earl, \u0026amp; Rex McGrew, daughter Mary Elizabeth McGrew, \u0026amp; grandson Dustin Lee Rosier. Some highlights of Mr. McGrew's long and productive life include his service in the U. S. A. F. from 1951-1954 at Keesler AFB, Biloxi, MS. During his years of service to his country he met and on May 3, 1953, married the love of his life, Mary Imogene Shoops. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this past May. After leaving the Air Force at the end of 1954, Mr. McGrew moved his wife \u0026amp; daughter to Cleveland, MS where he attended Delta State College and earned a BBA in Accounting in 1957. From there, it was on to Oxford, MS with his wife \u0026amp; 3 children where he earned his MBA at the University of Mississippi in 1958. After graduate school he worked \u0026amp; resided in Memphis, TN -- Christian Brothers College; Due West, SC -- Erskine College; Walhalla, SC -- Kenneth Mills; East Point, GA -- Piedmont Cotton Mill; College Park, GA \u0026amp; Centre, AL -- McGrew \u0026amp; Associates. Three more children were added to the family between 1959 \u0026amp; 1963, while they lived in Memphis, TN \u0026amp; Due West, SC, bringing the family to a total of eight. Mr. McGrew's family was his pride and joy in life. Herbert L. McGrew was a proud 50\u0026#43; year member and former Grand Master of the College Park Masonic Lodge #454 and a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church, Centre, AL. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 21, 2023, at 3:00 PM (CST) at Perry Funeral Home, the family will receive Friends from 1:00 PM (CST) till the time of service, and a burial service will take place Friday, September 22, 2023, at 1:00 PM (EST) at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in College Park GA.
