Kathryn "Kitty" Everett Frederick, 85, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 18, 2023 at Our Lady of Hope Health Center in Richmond, Virginia, after being diagnosed with Glioblastoma. Kitty was born on January 17, 1938. She was the only child of the late Owen W. Everett and J. Virginia Everett Dailey and grew up in the village of Weikert, Pennsylvania. Kitty graduated from Mifflinburg Area High School in 1955 and after graduation worked in banking. On September 15, 1957, she married Philip K. Frederick, Jr. at Hironimus Union Church in Weikert, Pennsylvania. As the spouse of an Air Force officer, Kitty called many places home including Virginia, Okinawa, Alabama, and Texas. Military assignments at the Pentagon and Air Force bases in the Washington, D. C. area allowed them to really settle down in the Virginia suburbs. They developed lifelong friendships in the close-knit neighborhood of Hayfield Farms that made those years special and memorable. After Phil retired from the military, they returned to Pennsylvania to be close to family. Through the years, golf became a passion. They enjoyed playing often and traveling the country to experience a variety of golf courses. Kitty became a member of the Bucknell Ladies Golf Association. Kitty’s hobbies also included gardening, knitting, and putting together puzzles. She was a member and past board member of Hironimus Union Church as well as a member and past president of the Athenaeum Club. Family and friends were very important to Kitty. She was known for sending notes and cards, making birthday phone calls, and baking delicious cookies and pecan pies. A devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, her home was always welcoming and she and Phil made many trips to Virginia to participate in all kinds of family activities and celebrations. She will be greatly missed. Kitty is survived by her husband of 66 years, Phil Frederick; daughter, Susan Chevalier and her husband John; granddaughter, Jennifer Dey and her husband Wheeler; granddaughter, Kelly Henley and her husband Matthew; and great-grandchildren, Annie and Everett Henley, all of the Richmond, Virginia area. Friends and family are welcome to a time of visitation from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, April 12th at Roupp Funeral Home, Inc., 8594 Turnpike Rd., Mifflinburg. A Celebration of Life service and burial will be held on Saturday, April 13th at 11:00 a.m. at Hironimus Union Church in Weikert, with Pastor Richard DeVett, officiating. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution in memory of Kitty Frederick to the West End Library in Laurelton, Pennsylvania, where she enjoyed playing Mah-Jongg and participating in book club. Dave Ervin Buffkin

Dave Ervin Buffkin, 67, of Disputanta, VA passed away on Sunday, February 25, 2024 at VCU Medical Center. Born in Fort Dix, NJ on March 5, 1956, he was the son of the late Elmore M. Buffkin and Dorothy Francis Collie Buffkin. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Marcel Buffkin. Dave worked as a Freight Serviceman for CSX for 10 years, and later became a Train Conductor for Amtrak, working for 34 years and retiring in 2023. He was a longtime member of Monumental Baptist Church in Petersburg, VA. He also served as the interim music director for various churches in the surrounding area while he was in college at VCU studying music. Most importantly, family was everything to Dave, and he loved nothing more than to spend time with them. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Tammy Buffkin; daughters, Kristin Buffkin and Becky Rosen and husband, Everette; son, Brian Buffkin; sister, Barbara Dungan and husband, Duane and many other extended family members. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at the Crater Road Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes, 3935 S. Crater Road, Petersburg, VA 23805. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, S. Prince George, VA. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 1, 2024 at the funeral home. On the morning of February 26, 2024, Florence “Flo” Marie Broaddus Clem, 88, died peacefully and entered into the presence of the Lord. She was born on December 20, 1935 in Berryville, Virginia. Flo was preceded in death by her loving husband, Elmer “JC” Clem. She is survived by a daughter, Dena Marie Smith, and a son, Elmer “E.D.” Davis Clem, III (Debbie). Flo will also be lovingly remembered by 4 grandsons: Daniel (Alana), Douglas (Nicole), Benjamin (Amanda), and Tyler (Jenny). She dearly loved her 9 great-grandchildren: Isaiah, Preston Levi, Maddox, Ezra, Avery, Braden, Roman, and Rylan. Flo loved spending time with her family, worshiping with brothers and sisters in Christ, and creating beautiful quilts, many of which earned ribbons at the Virginia State Fair. A funeral service to remember Flo will be held on March 8 at 10:00 a.m. at Woody Funeral Home-Parham, 1771 N. Parham Road, Richmond, Va. with Rev. Kenneth Stalls officiating. A grave-side service will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Flo’s home following the burial. She was known as “Nanny” to her 5 grandchildren, Jessica and Spencer Stone, Sarah and Peter Billeter, Brittany and Joshua Stanley, Emily and Dylan Thorne and Jonathan and Kaitlyn Milby; and 14 great-grandchildren, Rylan, Kayden, Harper, Laura, Brooklyn, Calvin, Chaley, Macie, Braeden, Keaton, McKinley, Elliott, Jayce and Asher. She is also survived by her sister, Ruby Styles, many nieces and nephews and close friends at the Masonic Home. She was a member of Poroporone Baptist Church and Women on Missions. She joined River View Chapter #69 OES in 1978 and served as Grand Representative to Minnesota (1997-98), Grand Electa (2000-01) and Worthy Matron on six occasions. A funeral service will be conducted on Friday at 2 pm at Poroporone Baptist Church, Shacklefords, Va. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. He is also survived by many loving cousins who he grew up with in Charlottesville.Peter, as a young athlete, participated in many sports in Albemarle County schools.Later he was known in the restaurant community for many years in Charlottesville and was the creator of the Pete's Monticello Grill. He loved his sports.
