Dayna Lamb Spencer stepped into glory on August 23, 2023 after a lengthy illness. She was the daughter of Henry L Lamb of Stockton Missouri and Hazel Annette Stewart Ainley Lamb Lowe of Webb City Missouri who were married June 22, 1932. Dayna Lee Lamb was born at home on March 16, 1937 in Joplin. She attended school in Webb City and Joplin and graduated from Joplin Senior High School in May 1955. Dayna was united in marriage to Jospeh Dale Spencer on the 23rd of July 1955 in Miami Oklahoma. Four children were born of the marriage; Patrice Nadine, Terri Jo, Joseph Bradley and Brian Forrest. Dayna was a homemaker and earned Joplin High School's "Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow " award in 1955. Dayna worked at Elder's Manufacturing Company in Webb City. She enjoyed learning and attended Missouri Southern State College where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Education (Cum Laude). Dayna received Regents Scholarship. While attending MSSC she received honors in Excellence in Foreign Languages. Attended summer school at Christ Church Oxford, England in 1988 where she satisfactorily completed the course Warwick to Windsor. She completed a summer language program in Mexico. Dayna was admitted to Pittsburg State University in 1991 to a Masters program in English and Literature with a teaching assistantship. Dayna was a member of Sigma Tau Delta, Kappa Delta Pi, and MSTA. Dayna taught briefly in Jasper and Golden City public schools before returning the Missouri Southern State College as an adjunct professor teaching the students who needed to take a remedial English class before completing regular English course work. She was loved by her students and published works of art, essays and poetry in the Winged Lion for MSSC and Cow Creek Review at PSU. Dayna was an accomplished artist. She first picked up an Artex paint tube in 1967 and became an accomplished instructor and won awards in selling and completing her own original works of art. She taught herself to crochet and oil paint. She also learned a Japanese embroidery art form called Bunka and was awarded mastery status. She taught many friends and family how to complete beautiful projects. Then she got serious and taught herself an old rug making craft which she turned into a business called Recycled Rainbows making rugs and potholders out of every type of fabric and recycled clothing and winning many awards at county and state fairs. She had several art shows and craft events over the years where Dayna and Joe would set up a booth and she would make and sell rugs while Joe would fashion a better hook by modifying crochet hooks. After years of teaching her craft she ended up competing with her students at the Missouri State Fair. Dayna made many friends while teaching her crafts and helped them make treasured family heirlooms. Joe and Dayna celebrated 50 years of marriage in July of 2005 before he proceeded her in death in December 2007. She was also proceeded in death by her siblings and parents. Dayna assisted her husband in his business Joe Spencer's Scale Service by keeping books and assisting Joe to bid his big projects. She once took the scale testing/mechanics test for Missouri weights and measures on a dare and jokingly told them to issue her a license when she passed with flying colors. Together they had eight grandchildren: Christopher Rager, Annie Philliber, Nicholas Rager, Amanda Spencer, Joe A Spencer, Rachel Walls, Savannah Spencer and Bethany Spencer. Also surviving are 14 great grandchildren: Anthony Isley, Christopher Philliber, Cody Philliber, Isaac Rupe, Gavin Philliber, Daniel Rager, Russell Rager, Tatianna Harris, Evelyn Rager, Melody Rager, Gimli Rager, Remus Rager, Aveline Walls, and Perseus Walls. Dayna has seven great great grandchildren, numerous nieces, and nephews and many friends. And will be missed by many. Dayna will lie in state on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at 12:00 P. M. , and the family will be present for a visitation between the hours of 5:00 P. M. and 7:00 P. M. at Simpson Funeral Home in Webb City. Terry Lee Long, 39, of Webb City, Missouri, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away tragically on November 5, 2023, in Carl Junction, Missouri. Born on September 18, 1984, in Springfield, Missouri, Terry's infectious laughter and adventurous spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew him. Terry's early life was shaped by the love and guidance of his parents, Stephen Long and Deborah (Hensley) Gordon, and his brothers, Paul and Gary Long, who preceded him in death. His family was his anchor, and he carried their teachings and values throughout his life. Terry's family extended beyond his immediate kin, as he was also blessed with a stepfather, Albert Gordon, two stepbrothers, Albey Gordon and Little C Gordon, and a stepsister, Angel Gordon. In his adult life, Terry found love and companionship with his wife, Charity Long. Together, they built a beautiful family that included three children, Donavan Showalter, Mariea Nester, and Peyton McGuirk, and two stepchildren, Steven Showalter and Joshua Thompson. Terry's love for his family was evident in his every action, and he took great pride in their accomplishments. His brothers, Shawn Long and Al Harlen, and sister, Eva Long, also survive him, along with a host of other family and friends who will miss him dearly. Terry's professional life was dedicated to serving his community as a Groundskeeper at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Webb City. His work ethic and dedication were admired by all who worked with him. He took great pride in maintaining the cemetery, ensuring it was a peaceful and beautiful place for families to remember their loved ones. Terry was a man of simple pleasures. He loved being outdoors, simply enjoying the beauty of nature. Music was another of Terry's passions. His eclectic taste ranged from classic rock to country, and he was known to break into song at any given moment. Terry was the life of the party, always ready with a joke or a funny story to make everyone laugh. His sense of humor and love of life were infectious, and he had a unique ability to make everyone around him feel special and loved. He will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, his love of music, and his ability to bring joy to any situation. His memory will be cherished by his family, friends, and all who knew him. On November 22, 2023, our world dimmed as Shawn Robert Ames, a loving husband, devoted father, and loyal friend, took his heavenly journey. Born on January 30, 1979, in Joplin, MO, Shawn's life was a testament to his spirited nature, his unwavering love of family, and his unwavering loyalty. Known for his funny sense of humor, he had an uncanny ability to make anyone smile, even on the gloomiest of days. Shawn's loving spirit was a beacon of warmth, his laughter, a melody that will continue to echo in the hearts of those he left behind. Shawn was an integral part of the Joplin community for 44 years, and his contributions to Lighting and Locks were nothing short of remarkable. Aside from his retail assistant manager role at Lighting and Locks (The Better Living Store), where he served with dedication and the utmost commitment for 11 years, Shawn was an avid outdoorsman. He found solace in the rustling leaves, the chirping of his beloved chickens, and the quiet hum of nature. He was a deer hunter, a fisherman, a fan of art, a jewelry maker, and above all, a man who cherished every moment under the sun. His Bachelor's Degree in Art History from Pittsburg State University was not just an academic achievement, but a testament to his love for art, a passion that he carried throughout his life. He had a great love for the Lord, ministering to young boys through Royal Rangers. Married to his beloved wife, Amber, on September 13, 2014, Shawn was a pillar of love and strength for his family. He was a proud father to his daughter, Natalee, whom he adopted with immense pride and joy. Shawn's love for his family was his guiding star, always illuminating his path. He is survived by his wife Amber Ames of Joplin; his daughter, Natalee Ames; his parents, David and Betty Ames also of Joplin; his sisters, Esther (fiance Kurt Vomberg) Ames and her three sons, one daughter, and one granddaughter, all of Oklahoma; and Dena (Tim) Tyler of Lucas, KY; mother in law Diana Golden of Joplin; a brother-in-law Jacob Golden (Kimbar) along with their son and daughter of Webb City. In Corinthians 1:13, it is written, "And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. Bradley Darren Hole was born in Joplin, MO, on March 27, 1977. Bradley was a spirited soul, brimming with a contagious sense of humor that could light up even the gloomiest of days. He was humble, never seeking the spotlight, but rather, creating a light of his own that was far more captivating and genuine. His compassion knew no bounds; he had a heart as vast as the Colorado Rockies he so loved to cheer for. Bradley was the embodiment of a life well-lived, a testament to the joy that can be found in everyday moments. As a bartender for 20 years, he had an innate ability to turn a casual conversation into a memorable encounter. He was the person behind the counter with a ready smile, a funny anecdote, and an empathetic ear. He left an indelible mark, not just in the restaurant he worked at, but in the hearts of those he served. He was a loyal Broncos fan, an enthusiastic concert-goer, and a high school graduate of Carl Junction. However, Bradley's most cherished times were spent with his friends, family, and especially his beloved dog, Jaxson. Bradley is survived by his loving mother, Wanda Hole, and his dear brothers, Ryan, Dwayne (Carolyn), and Randy (Sylvia) Hole; he was also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins; and a host of other extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Royce Hole. A graveside service will be held in his honor on Friday, December 8, 2023, at 2:00pm, at Weaver Cemetery in Oronogo. John Blevins

Age - 87

John A. Blevins passed away on November 20, 2023 at age 87 surrounded by his family after a long illness. He was born on March 16, 1936 in Joplin, Missouri and moved at age 12 to a farm near Asbury, Missouri with his parents and sister. He graduated from high school at Carl Junction in 1954. He was active in 4H and FFA when he was young. On the farm, he and his Dad milked cows, planted crops, grew big vegetable gardens, and painted houses. He hauled water to neighbors before rural water became available, and he knew the people in the community. He loved the farm. John married his wife, Jewell, in 1962 and they celebrated 55 years together before her death in 2018. Jewell was a teacher at Carl Junction. John built a home for them and was a great Dad to their two daughters. He was Jewell's caregiver and true friend during her illness, giving up much of the farming around that time to take care of her. Together John and Jewell had 4 grandchildren whom he loved well. He was a proud and devoted supporter of his grandkids, attending plays, tennis matches, church programs, and more. John was a Christian and member of Asbury Baptist Church for most of his life, helping with Sunday School, youth activities, a living nativity, and more. He recently joined Forest Park Baptist church in Joplin where he was able to help in Awana before his illness worsened. John served with B Company of the 203rd Engineer Battalion Houn' Dawgs of the Missouri National Guard for 22 years and participated in annual training in Germany one year as well as other places in the US. He loved the Guard and enjoyed the people he worked with in the 203rd, and was an active member of the 203rd Retirees Association. John loved his wife and daughters and he loved his grandkids. He enjoyed a good yard sale or auction. He made great pancakes and he was an excellent potato peeler. He loved ice cream. He and Jewell enjoyed the senior citizen center in Carl Junction and their friends there. He loved animals in general and especially his dogs. He thought he could fix nearly anything on the farm with a little baling wire and a pair of pliers, and he usually could. He was always willing to help others. He always took time to talk with acquaintances he ran into around town, and it seemed he never met a stranger. He enjoyed traveling with his family. He was the best of listeners for his girls. And he will be greatly missed. John was preceded in death by his late wife, Jewell Blevins and by his parents Herbert and Leota Blevins. He is survived by his daughters, Aleta (Phil) Greathouse of Joplin and Sharon (Phil) Gloyer of Joplin, and his grandchildren Emma (Benjamin) Ludwinski, Pierce Gloyer, Tessa (Cooper) Hale, and Jackson Gloyer. He is also survived by his sister Frances Dodd. John's life will be honored with a visitation at Simpson Funeral Home in Carl Junction on Sunday, November 26, 2023, 3:00-5:00pm. His funeral service will be held on Monday, November 27, 2023, at 1:00pm at the same venue. A graveside service will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery in Joplin. Robert E. "Bob" Taylor was born on November 7, 1930, in Ardmore, OK. His life was defined by his loving and empathetic nature, with a heart that was always quick to reach out to others. He passed away on November 8, 2023 at Webb City Health and Rehab, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and warmth that will forever be cherished. Robert lived a vibrant and active life. He served his country during World War II and afterward, found his calling as a truck driver. His love for the open road was only matched by his love for people. Many will remember Robert for his lively conversations that could last for hours. He continued to serve his community as a school bus driver for Joplin Schools until his retirement in 1989. Even after retirement, he remained an active member of his community, always ready to lend a listening ear. His hobbies showcased his love for life, whether it was unearthing treasures at garage sales or bird hunting. A devoted fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, Robert also found joy in the thrill of the game. His greatest pride and achievement, however, were his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Barney Taylor and Viola Preston, his wife Mary Taylor, and his daughter Marilyn Reid. He is survived by his son Robert "Bob" (Darlene) Taylor; grandchildren Eddie Jones, Leslie (Zach) Holden, Mellissa (Adam) Butcher, and Scott (Jennifer) Taylor; great-grandchildren Steffanie Roberts, Thai Butcher, Tiffani (Parker) Sockwell, Mason Jones, Hadley Butcher and Kaitlyn Taylor; and great-great-grandchildren Silas Jones and Miles Sockwell. A visitation will be held from 6-8pm on Monday, November 13, 2023, at Simpson Funeral Home in Webb City. ~Lovingly written by the family~Ann Jarvis Roby, a Connecticut native with lifelong ties to Keene, Ann was born and raised in Norwalk, Connecticut, and spent many happy summers visiting the cabin built by her father on Highland Lake in Stoddard. Married to Frank Brown in 1956, she raised four children in Bethel CT, later moving to the Monadnock region. She had a keen interest in archaeology and studied for a time at Franklin Pierce College. In later life, Ann married Carleton Roby, and lived in West Swanzey. She worked for many years as a bookkeeper for Ingram Construction. After widowhood and retirement, she moved to Missouri, near her daughter Loren, who should be a candidate for sainthood. Mom passed away surprisingly peacefully, in the midst of a family cocktail party. Ann leaves four children, nine grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren, with one on the way. She had a keen wit and great intelligence. If you were in the mood for a lively time and a few 'brown drinks', head to Mom's. Just don't try to beat her at scrabble. She always wins. On October 17, 2023 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, the world said goodbye to a man of remarkable spirit and zest for life, Thomas Kidwell, known to all who loved him as Tom, who was born in Monterey Park, California on October 2, 1953. Tom was a smart man with an adventurous soul, a loving heart, and a sense of humor that could light up even the gloomiest of days. Tom was not only an accomplished forklift operator for over 50 years, but also an impassioned music enthusiast. He was employed at Leggett and Platt in Carthage. He recently relished the live performance of Carlos Santana in Kansas City along with his beloved wife, Carol Kidwell, to whom he had been married since November 24, 1973. A funny man, Tom had a knack for brightening up any room with his humor. His love for adventure led him on many hikes and camping trips, experiences he thoroughly enjoyed. However, the joy of his life were his kids and grandkids. They were his whole world and he left no stone unturned to make them feel loved and cherished. Thomas will be profoundly missed by his loving wife, Carol Kidwell; his daughters, Alicia (Kenneth) Jarosz and Emily (Gary) England; his son, Keith (Uriah) Kidwell; his brother, Stephen Kidwell; sisters, Candy Wood and Kathleen Mitchell; grandchildren, Gary England III, Colette England, Keith (Uriah) Kidwell, Kairi Kidwell, Jordan Kidwell, Rose Kidwell. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bruce Kidwell, and Maura Sterling. Tom was a Christian, and his life was a testament to his love for his family, his passion for music, and his unyielding faith. He loved food, and could have been a food critic. Stephen Jay Broaddus, a dedicated, witty, generous, and loving soul, was born on July 9, 1950, in Carterville, Missouri. A true Carterville native with a heart as expansive as the horizon, his life was a testament to the power of love and the strength of the human spirit. He was known to many for his wonderful humor, his culinary skills especially with his beloved Broaddus tacos, cookies, and peanut brittle, and his joy in feeding the birds and squirrels. Yet, his greatest joy was his family, who he loved unconditionally and devoted his life to. Stephen was a proud veteran, having served three years in the Army. He then worked as a technician at Dyno Nobel in Carthage, MO, where his dedicated service spanned many years before his retirement in 1993. His colleagues remember him for his wit and generosity, always ready to lend a hand. Even in retirement, Stephen remained active, not just in his hobbies, but also as a beloved patriarch who took great pleasure in caring for his grandkids and great grandkids. He fought every illness ferociously, driven by his love for his wife and family. In the words of Helen Keller, "The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched - they must be felt with the heart. " Stephen's life was a testament to this truth, his love and dedication palpable in every action. Robert Spencer Miner, age 75, known affectionately by all as Bob, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2023, at his residence in Carl Junction, Missouri, following months of failing health. Born on October 16, 1947, in Columbia, Missouri, to the union of the late Lawrence "Buck" and Lorine (Spencer) Miner. Bob lived a full life marked by intelligence, wisdom, and an unwavering love for the outdoors. Bob was a proud alumnus of Webb City High School, graduating with the class of 1965. He furthered his education at MSSC in Joplin, Missouri, where he earned his Bachelor's degree in 1969. True to his enterprising spirit, Bob was a self-employed entrepreneur for most of his life. He owned a bait shop and marina in Grove, Oklahoma, where he combined his love for the outdoors with his keen business acumen. After moving back home to Missouri, he owned and operated a car lot in Carterville. Bob had a deep love for nature and the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and mowing lawns. He was a passionate supporter of Webb City Cardinal football, a pastime that brought him much joy. Bob was also a proud veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Vietnam War. This service to his country was a testament to his bravery and unwavering dedication to duty. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, David Minor. He is survived by his beloved daughter, Carey Moore Tignor, and her husband, Darin Watson, of Kansas City, Missouri. He was a doting grandfather to his two granddaughters, Alexia Walker and her husband, Dave, and Isabel Tignor. Bob is also survived by his sister, Patricia Martinez of Denton, Texas, and his best friend, Bill Kerr of Webb City, alongside a host of other family members and friends who will greatly miss his wisdom and company.
