PONTOTOC - David Leroy Thacker, 61, passed away October 3, 2023, at his home in Pontotoc County, MS. He was a hard worker that had a variety of skills and owned and operated several businesses. He was very passionate about crappie fishing, deer hunting, and helping those in need with projects, etc. He was very proud of his grandchildren and enjoyed listening to Elvis Presley music. An avid outdoorsman, he took his sons hunting and fishing while always including a related teaching lesson. Survivors include his brother, Gary Thacker; his sister, Stacey Brown; son, Daniel Thacker (Haley); granddaughters, Caroline and Sadie Thacker; son, Brandon Thacker (Elise); grandchildren, Caden Thacker, Kaylee Thacker, Kinslee Thacker, and Dalton Robbins. He was preceded in death by his father, David Thacker, Jr. and his mother, Mary Lynn Franks. A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at 2PM at Tutor Memorial Funeral Home in Pontotoc with Bro. Kevin Wallace officiating. Billie Sewell

Our beloved mother, Billie Jean Sewell, age 88, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at Pontotoc Extended Care after an extended illness. Our father always referred to her as "Hon"--short for "honey"--and that's how her grandchildren remember her. She was their Hon. She was born February 19, 1935 in Toccopola, MS to Hubert L. and Doris Pickens Thomas, and lived a wonderfully meaningful life as a wife, mother, grandmother, friend, social worker, faculty member, and advocate for those in need. Mom had a tremendous impact on many lives during her 22-year tenure at The University of Mississippi in the Social Work Department, and she retired as chair of the department. Chairing that department was one of the proudest accomplishments of her life. She was active in several state-wide and national organizations where she had a positive impact, including the NASW and the Mississippi Home Board. She was also active in her local church throughout her life. She particularly enjoyed teaching and fellowshipping with her Sunday School ladies at First Baptist-Pontotoc. Our family is deeply grateful for the excellent care Mom received at the North Mississippi Medical Center Nursing Home at Pontotoc, particularly by Britt Huffstatler and Katherine Souter. They loved on our Mom every day. Services will be at 11:00 a. m. , Thursday, December 7, 2023, at Browning Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Ken Hester officiating. Burial will follow in West Heights Cemetery. Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc is honored to assist with the arrangements. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a. m. , immediately prior to the service, at the funeral home. Survivors include her two daughters, Lauren Ingraham (Jim), and Jeanna Boothe (Leigh); her son, Tom Sewell (Melissa); a sister-in-law, Linda Thomas; seven grandchildren, Emily Sewell Jones (Dane), Erica Gray (Taylor), Alex Boothe, Andrew Boothe, William Ingraham, Caleb Bolen (Ashley) and Ben Bolen (Ashley); and nine great-grandchildren, including Cadence Bolen. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lewis Sewell, and her brother, Keith Thomas. Pallbearers will be Jim Ingraham, William Ingraham, Leigh Boothe, Alex Boothe, Andrew Boothe, and Chris Thomas. "Randy Sneed Pontotoc - Randy Sneed was ultimately healed when he passed away from this earth at North Mississippi Medical Center in Pontotoc on November 20, 2023. He was born in New Albany to Carl Sneed and the late Joan Sneed. Randy was a great person, fun loving with a great sense of humor. For many years he battled cancer and he was a fighter. A God fearing man who loved the Lord, he was a great father and brother and will be missed dearly. He is survived by his father, Carl Sneed, Bigbee; daughters, Leslie Moore (Joseph), Pontotoc and April Herring, New Albany; brother, Ricky Sneed, Nettelton and Kevin Patterson, New Albany. ObituaryPONTOTOC - Robert (Bunny) Bunyan Copeland, Sr. , 70, passed away November 25, 2023, at NMMC-Tupelo, MS. He served in the United States Army from February 24, 1971, until April 9, 1973. He married Paula Skidmore on February 10, 1983, who passed away on June 16, 1999. Survivors include his daughter, Vickie; 2 sons, Robert and JD; daughter-in-law, Kayla; 1 stepdaughter, Corey; 8 grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; 2 brothers; and 1 sister. Preceded in death by his father, Louis Copeland; mother, Catherine Bass Copeland; and 3 brothers. Mable King

PONTOTOC - Mable Doris "Dot" Patterson King passed away November 23, 2023. She was born on January 15, 1934 to Monard and Oma Cruse Patterson in Randolph, MS. She attended Randolph School, then moved to Pontotoc and graduated from Pontotoc High School in 1952. She was saved at 13 years old and joined Palestine Methodist Church at Randolph. She worked for Kuhn's 5 & 10 Cents Store while in school in the evenings and on Saturdays. She married Bill Peden in 1951 and joined West Heights Baptist Church. She worked all of her adult life in the garment and furniture factories while raising her family. After retiring from Brookwood Furniture, she volunteered at the Pontotoc Nursing Home as a member of the NMMC Ladies Auxiliary. She loved her family, her church, cooking, sewing and flowers. Services will be at 3:00pm Saturday, November 25, 2023, at West Heights Baptist Church. Dr. David Hamilton will officiate. Burial will be in the Cruse Cemetery. Mary Bell Williams, 95, passed away November 22, 2023 in Southaven, MS. She was born August 18, 1928, in Pontotoc to Gip and Katie Winter. She grew up in Pontotoc and attended Algoma School. She was a homemaker, cook, seamstress and loved to bowl in their league, attend the fair and play any outdoor games. She was a longtime member of Holmes Road Church of Christ in Memphis. PONTOTOC - Mary Tutor Salyers, 84, passed away Saturday, November 18, 2023, at her home in Pontotoc. She enjoyed working in the garden, horses, cars, and dogs, and the outdoors planting flowers and shrubs. She was a seamstress for 32 years and enjoyed sewing for the public and meeting new people. A God-fearing lady she loved attending church for several years at Victory Baptist Church then later at Harvest Time Church of God. Survivors include her three daughters, Beckey McGloflin (Tony), Betty McMillen (Donnie), and Beverly Willard (Michael McDaniel); two brothers, Kermit "Red" Tutor (Ann) and Donnie Tutor; 18 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and her cat, Tippy. She was a lifelong member at Immanuel Baptist Church. Her hobbies included cooking for her family and friends, quilting, and gardening. She is preceded in death by her parents Loyd Elford Jones and Lucille Fur Jones; her husband Carol M. Jaggers; her siblings Leroy Jones, Kathleen Smith, Loyd Elford Jones Jr. , and Joyce Sappington; sister-in-law Willa Deen Jones, and son in law Donnie Crane. She is survived by her son William Earl Jaggers(Carolyn), and her daughter Mary Evelyn Crane; Grandchildren Scott Crane(Amy), Shelley Townsend(John), Michael Jaggers(Teisha); Great-Grandchildren Katie Boren(Daniel), Ashley Carmichael(Ethan), Jacob Jaggers, Emily Jaggers, Will Townsend, and Olivia Townsend; and sister-in-law, Marie Jones.
