David R Sescil, a lifelong resident of Akron, New York and a pillar of the agricultural community, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2023 Born on January 12, 1954, in Buffalo, New York, to the late Robert and Shirley (Marshall) Sescil, Dave's life was a testament to the values of hard work, family, and love for the land A 1973 graduate of Akron Central High School, David carried the mantle of his family's farming legacy with vigor and commitment that was unparalleled For David, the farm was not just a place of work, but a labor of love, a sanctuary where he found peace, strength, and fulfillment His genuine love for the land and its creatures shaped his career as a farmer, working tirelessly while also being an active member of the Erie County Farm Bureau On December 30, 1983, he joined hands in matrimony with his beloved Kimberly Brown, and together they nurtured a beautiful family, sharing joys, challenges, and their love for the farm life David's affection for animals was palpable; he would go to any lengths to ensure their well-being When not on the farm, he cherished his trips to Disney, where he reveled in the magic and joy that is the "Happiest Place on Earth " David leaves behind his loving wife of 39 years, Kimberly (Brown) Sescil; his beloved children, Ryan D Sescil, Brianne (Edward) Matrak, and Hilary (Phillip) Suraf; five cherished grandchildren, Sydney Suraf, Juliet Matrak, Edward David Matrak, Jameson Suraf, and Remington Suraf; a brother, Douglas (Judy) Sescil and a sister, Margaret (Timothy) McGowan; and several nieces and nephews Friday October 13th, from 10-12 family will be present for condolences followed by a Memorial Service at The One Church, 6 Scotland Rd , Akron, NY 14001 with arrangements made by Ross Funeral Home of Akron, LLC Charitable contributions may be made in Dave's memory to Erie County 4-H, 21 S Grove St , East Aurora, NY 14052 or The One Church We invite you to share photos and stories that celebrate David's life His memory will live on in the hearts of those he touched, and his legacy will endure through the land he loved so dearly

Milton D. Cummings, entered into rest on November 28, 2023. Born on August 14, 1948, in Lockport, NY, to the late Warren and Margaret (Reigle) Cummings. Milton was a devoted father, loving brother, cherished grandfather, and loyal friend. He made a lasting impression on all who were fortunate to cross his path. Milton was a man of enduring strength and unwavering commitment. He served his country valiantly in the US Army from 1968 to 1970, a period of his life he was immensely proud of. His work ethic was incomparable, as evidenced by his dedicated service at General Motors in Lockport, NY until his retirement. Yet, Milton was not all work. He found pleasure in life's simpler joys - the rhythmic roll of a bowling ball, the silent vigil of deer hunting, the roaring engines of a NASCAR race, and the thrill of a football or baseball game especially those played by his grandkids. He also was very active within his church family and served as a Deacon. His laughter and competitive spirit were infectious during card and game nights, particularly when he played with his beloved grandkids, Carter Cummings, Jackson and Jameson Nice. He was a beloved father to Kristie (Pete Hennessy) Cummings, Todd Cummings, and Amanda (Craig) Nice. His love extended to his cherished grandchildren: Carter Cummings, Jackson, and Jameson Nice. He was a loving brother to Leslie (Marsha) Cummings, Larry (Diane) Cummings, Janice (Gary) Cummings, Sue (Mike) Ribbeck, and the late Leon (Tootie) Cummings, Beverly (Tom) Berndt, Roy Rosenberg, Bea Gill, and a fond uncle to many nieces and nephews. A constant companion to Judy McHenry, Milton was a pillar of strength and comfort to those around him. Rebecca's life was a testament to the profound impact one person can have when they passionately pursue their innate talents. Becky had a unique way of coloring the world with her vibrant personality and immeasurable talents. As an Art Teacher, she brilliantly used her skills to inspire the imaginations of her students, consistently demonstrating the power of creativity as a force that can change lives. She was a dedicated member of the Pembroke Youth Association and a steadfast Union Representative for the Teacher's Federation. Her love for music, baking, and fine crafts were the essence of her spirit, encapsulating her zest for life and the joy she brought to others. Loving wife of Michael Schuler, adoring mother of Edward and Ethan; dear sister of Daniel (Therese) Benjamin, Adam Benjamin, Robin (Paul) Mezzanini. Becky is also survived by her Great Aunt, Jeanne Cowen, and numerous aunts, uncles, sister in laws, brother in laws, nieces, and nephews. Bata's life was a testament to the beauty of simplicity, a principle she embodied with grace and poise. During her lifetime, Bata was a dedicated housewife whose love and care were the cornerstone of her home. Her life was a living testament to the belief that the most profound impacts are often made behind the scenes, in the quiet, simple acts of love and kindness that shape our everyday lives. She served as a beacon of strength and compassion, not only for her family but also for her community. Bata was a proud member of the Townline Ladies Auxiliary, where she demonstrated her commitment to service with an impressive 15-year streak of perfect attendance. In addition to her tangible contributions, Bata served as a chaplain and trustee, roles that allowed her to touch the lives of many with her dedication to servitude. Loving mother of Duane Holtz and Faye Lone, cherished grandmother of seven grandchildren and proud great grandmother of 20 great grandchildren. Additionally, she is survived by her brothers Pete and Dale Blair and several nephews and nieces. Bata was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, Russell Holtz. Born in Batavia, NY, on September 1, 1960, Elton was a man of many talents and passions. A retired handyman, he was not just a man who worked on homes, he also worked on hearts, leaving a lasting impact on everyone he met. Elton's love for life was infectious. As a social butterfly, he was the life of every party, always ready to bring joy and laughter into any room. His unique interests in dinosaurs and Harley Davidsons were a testament to his eclectic spirit. He was a proud member of the Snipe Clan, a community that he held close to his heart. However, what mattered most to Elton was his family and friends. He was a doting father to his ten children: YaVaun Ground, Kerwin (Kasey) Smith, Elton (Kaya) Ground III, YaLaunda (Bob) Ground, Charisse (Steve) Ground, Krysten Ground, Cody "Dude" Ground, Brittany Ground, Elijah "Grouch" Ground, and Naomi "Nay" Ground; an adored grandfather to his thirty-three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren as well as a loving brother to his sisters, Wanda Gay Ground, Lorna "Scamp" Thompson, and Lora "Midgie" Ground. William "Bill" N. Marcolivio, passed away unexpectedly on October 10, 2023. He was born on October 27, 1957 in Buffalo, New York, to the late Nicholas and Peggy (Prindible) Marcolivio. Bill graduated from Maryvale High School in 1975 and married the late Julie (Haist) Marcolivio on January 10, 1977. Together they built a life of 43 years that included their three children. He committed the majority of his professional life to the Whiting Roll Up Door Co. , where he retired in 2022. He loved to ride his motorcycle and spend time outdoors. His favorite places to be were camping in Allegheny and the Adirondacks with his wife. He was an avid fan of the Buffalo Bills and the Buffalo Sabres, always showing his unwavering support and passion for his home teams. He found the most joy, however, in the company of his beloved dogs, the late Molly, Bandit, Rocky, and Hailee, who were not just pets but his fur children. Loving father of Mary Haist, Joanne (Luke) Floss, and William (Kelli) Marcolivio; cherished grandfather of seven: Joshua Floss Jr. , late Zachary Floss, Albert Floss, Joseph Floss, Chase Floss, Payton Floss, Angelina Marcolivio and a great grandchild, Kayliana Floss; dear brother of Kathy (Jim) McPoland, Joseph (Suzanne) Marcolivio, and Maryanne (Tony) Bertoloni. Robert Wayne Mast 1934-2023 Robert Wayne Mast, 89, of Akron NY, went home to heaven peacefully on October 5, 2023 Loving husband to Esther (Troyer) for 64 years Father to Gwen (Joseph) Frey, Faith (late Joseph) Erb, and Abby (Cliff) Albrecht Brother to the late Betty (late Ray) Hertzler, late Laura (Herbert) Wenger, late Doris (late Cecil) Grove, James (Cindy) Mast, and Chester (Jerri) Mast Papa to Jason Frey, Julia (Daniel) Nigro, Anna (Benjamin) Kupferman, Allison Frey, Krista (Pat) Mest, Victoria (Wade) Bontrager, James (Sara) Erb, Jennifer (David) Froese, Laura Albrecht, Emma Albrecht, and seven great-grandchildren Robert was also loved by many nieces and nephews Robert was born on April 4, 1934, to Norman & Virginia (Smucker) Mast in Kempsville, VA Anyone who spent time with Robert heard the story of how he was born two months premature and was so small that he slept in a shoebox, and how he witnessed his father's tragic death at only 13 years old Shortly after his father's death, Robert started working to help provide for his family At age 15, Robert began working with Ira Miller, who taught him the carpentry skills he would use throughout the rest of his life In his early 20's, together with his brothers James and Chester, he built a house for his mother Virginia As a young adult, he loved to spend time fishing in the Gulf Stream off the coast of Virginia and the Chesapeake Bay At age 19, Robert committed his life to the Lord, marking the beginning of his lifetime of service within the Mennonite Church community and beyond On August 29, 1959, Robert and Esther were married at Mount Pleasant Mennonite Church in Chesapeake, VA Shortly thereafter, they moved to Kitchener, Ontario where Robert attended Ontario Mennonite Bible Institute After finishing his education at the bible institute, Robert and Esther moved back to Virginia, where Robert worked as a pastor and continued his education, finally earning a Masters in Christian Ministry from Eastern Mennonite Seminary Robert was a pastor for over 40 years, and pastored congregations at Gieger Mennonite Church, Deep Creek Mennonite Church, and lastly Mount Pleasant Mennonite Church where he had attended as a child, and where he and Esther raised their three daughters Robert was also one of the founders of the Williamsburg Christian Retreat Center Even after retirement, Robert had a pastor's heart and cared deeply about ministering to others Robert also worked as a skilled carpenter alongside his service as a pastor He built playhouses for his grandchildren when they were young, which are now enjoyed by his great-grandchildren Robert also built houses with Habitat for Humanity for families in need After retirement, Robert led a weekly bible study at the Chesapeake City Jail for over 10 years, until Robert and Esther moved to Akron, NY Robert loved singing, and sang in several quartets over the years He also loved telling stories, writing letters back and forth to his grandchildren, reading his Bible, repairing things, gardening, bluegrass music, and spending time with family As he always loved to say, "God's greatest gift is family "Show more
