David Frederick Neuman (64) passed away at home surrounded by family on Tuesday, July 4 , 2023. David Frederick Neuman was born in Osage, Iowa on June 30, 1959 to Jeannette and William Neuman. He graduated from St. Ansgar, Iowa High School in 1977 and received his Associate's Degree in Liberal Arts from Waldorf College in 1979. Dave's law enforcement career began as an Intern for the Forest City, Iowa Police Department in 1978. Dave attended the Iowa Law Enforcement Police Academy (1979) while employed at the Lake Mills, Iowa Police Department. He then moved to Storm Lake, Iowa Police Department where he served as an Officer and as a Detective from 1980 until 1986. During that time, he received his Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and Sociology from Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa in 1982. Dave married Mary Joanne Vail on May 31, 1980 in Kasson, Minnesota. He and his family made the move to Chandler, Arizona where he began his illustrious career for the Chandler Police Department on February 28, 1986. His service to the community of Chandler spanned 29 years where he rose through the ranks until he retired as Assistant Chief of Police in October 2015. During his tenure, Dave was awarded Police Officer of the Year in 1990 and served two interim positions as Chief of Police for the City of Chandler. During this time, Dave earned his Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University in 1999 and Graduated from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia in 2004. His stellar career spanned almost four decades. Dave is survived by his wife, Mary, daughters Lindsay O'Herron and Brooke Fisher (Chris Fisher), his grandchildren Maddox O'Herron (7), Amelia Fisher (6), and Luke Fisher (3), as well as his siblings Charlene Bruggeman, LaDonna Cleveland, Darwin (Butch) Neuman, and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Dave was preceded in death by his parents Jeannette and William Neuman, sister-in-law Jeanne Neuman, niece Hope Frederickson and great nephews Sam and Adam Bruggeman. LaVonne Ruth Wollum, age 89, of Chandler Arizona, passed away Monday evening, December 4, 2023, peacefully in her sleep. She was born January 31, 1934, in Masonville, Iowa, a daughter of the late Lawrence and Mabel Pierce. LaVonne was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Jim Wollum; one daughter, Anita Kay; three brothers, Dean Pierce, Lyle Pierce, and Lynn Pierce. She was a member of Heart of Mesa Baptist Church, a retired High School Cafeteria Manager, and most of all a beloved mother, gramma, and GG (great grandmother). LaVonne was an excellent seamstress who also enjoyed cooking and baking, writing letters to life-long pen pals, doing mission work through her church and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. LaVonne is survived by one son and one daughter-in-law, James Eldon Wollum (Joyce) of Mesa, Arizona; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Letha Ann Hunt (David) of Waco, Texas, Virginia Ruth Alberts, and Kathryn LaVonne Wilt (Michael) of Gilbert, Arizona; nine grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; four brothers, Neal Pierce of Surprise, Arizona, Gordon Pierce of Queen Creek, Arizona, Ronald Pierce of Chandler, Arizona, and Michael Pierce of Chandler, Arizona; and two sisters, Leah Cathey of Hayden, Idaho and Norma June Mangels of Spring Valley, California. She also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss her. Funeral service will be held at 10 a. m. , Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at Meldrum Mortuary, 52 N. Macdonald, Mesa, Arizona with nephew Tony Pierce officiating. Burial will follow in the Mesa Cemetery in Mesa Arizona. LaVonne's grandsons and grandsons-in-law will serve as pallbearers. Mert F Trent, beloved Mother and best friend, passed away in Chandler, Arizona on November 29, 2023. Mert was born in a small farming community in Saskatchewan, Canada in 1938. She was 1 of 11 children born to Emilia and Adolph Singbeil. As a young girl, Mert enjoyed sports, track and field, and working on the switchboard in the family telephone office. She was keenly competitive and compassionate, and had a wonderful sense of humor and justice. She loved a good party, a game of tennis, playing cards, bunco and other games. Mert was a fantastic chef, cooking, baking and entertaining family and friends. She also enjoyed gardening, making jewelry and crafts of all kinds, having recently taken up knitting again. She always made sure her home and garden were beautiful. She was an incredible mother who was always there for her children, April (Craig) and Brad. Mert had a large circle of friends and was well-loved by them all. Sweet Gracie came into Mert's life while she was working as a realtor, and though small, she was a huge part of her life for many years. Gracie brought hours of pure love, joy, companionship and endless entertainment to her. In the late 1950s, Mert was living in a small apartment in Moosejaw, Saskatchewan, with two of her sisters and a girlfriend where she met and married a pilot with the Royal Canadian Airforce, (Gerry Shepherd) and had two children together, April and Brad. They divorced and she later met and married Lee Trent in Calgary, Alberta, where the family was living at the time. Mert and Lee enjoyed traveling the world where Mert made many friends. Lee passed away in 1988 and she then moved to the Phoenix area where they had planned to live full-time after vacationing there many times. She later married Joseph Mahowald and they enjoyed boating at Lake Powell and forged many new friendships together. Mert was predeceased by her loving husband Joe in 2001. Mert worked as a realtor for over 30 years, initially in Calgary, Alberta (Canada) and later in Phoenix, Arizona. She was incredibly hard-working, and enjoyed finding the perfect home for her clients. She won many awards and accolades during her career and was always proud of her achievements. She lived an exciting and fascinating life, meeting people and making friends from all walks of life. Mert will always be remembered as a fair, kind and intelligent woman, who would do anything for her beloved family and friends. She will be terribly missed, but always and lovingly remembered. Mert leaves her daughter April, son-in-law Craig, son Brad, sisters Doreen and Pauline, brother Leon (Freda), and brother Ted (Joan). Elvira Marie Cote (Germani) passed away on November 30, 2023 in Chandler, AZ at the age of 79. Vira was the wife of the late Albert J. Cote III and survived by her Children: Michelle Archer, Jacqueline Hodgins (Paul), and Charles Cote (Dianne); grandchildren Adam (Kayleigh), Alex (CC), Andrew, Cameron, Bailey, Brett; and great-grandchildren Elleigh and Easton; brother Peter Germani (Jean) and sister-in-law Beverly LeMay (Lew). She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and son-in-law Jeff. She was born in Providence, R. I. to the late Pasquale and Italia (Iannelli) Germani. She grew up in Providence and Cranston, and attended Cranston High School East class of 1962, where she participated in the beginner nursing program. Throughout her life, she was known as Vira and most importantly Nonnie by her grandkids. She was a homemaker and the heart of the family. She devoted her life to caring, supporting, and being a sounding-board to her husband, children, and grandchildren in all their endeavors and life's challenges. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her heart and she traveled the country to their sporting events and was their biggest cheerleader. She earned the nickname "Nurse Nonnie" from her grandchildren, who called her for all their injuries, illnesses and for hugs. Her Italian cooking was renowned by all who ate at her table. Everyone was welcome and never left without a kind word and a full belly. A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Monday, December 18, 2023 6:30-9pm at Cottonwood Palo Verde Country Club, 25630 S. Gabriella Krystal Verdugo was born October 3 , 1990, to Patty and Ruben Verdugo. She danced to heavens gates on November 25th, 2023. Not only a daughter, but Gabby was a sister to her brother's Ruben Angel and Kevin Julius. A mother to Julius Angel, Juliana Reign and Joseph Ezekiel, and a partner to Joseph Quihuis. Granddaughter to Ricardo Castillo Sr and Paula (Polly) Castillo and preceded in death by grandparents Jose Verdugo and Margarita Yocupicio. While it's tragic to think about Gabby leaving us too soon, she left behind a lifetime of memories that we can celebrate. In her early years she attended Kyrene de Los Nino's where she received a scholarship "Quest for Kids" for good grades. She continued through Kyrene Middle School and graduated from Marcos de Niza high school class of 2009, meeting many friends along the way. Gabby was the life of the party and always down for a fun time. Daughter, granddaughter, tia, niece, cousin, sister-in-law, she loved all her family and would do anything for them. Like she said, "It's not what I have in life, but who I have that counts". Being a mom was her EVERYTHING. She provided, taught, nurtured, and loved her children. Her departure has left an irreplaceable void, yet her spirit, her laughter, and her memories will continue to surround us.
