David Dennis "T-Model" Mizzell, 81, husband of Carolyn Weathers Mizzell entered eternal rest on September 11, 2023, after a brief illness. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at Harleyville Southern Methodist Church with Pastor Damon Williams and Rev. Haskell Parler officiating. A burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Stevie Weathers, Will Easterlin, Martin Connelly, Jonathan Hatchell, Zach Bozard, Hunter Mizzell, Rhett Mizzell and Chaz Mizzell. Honorary Pallbearers will be Nick Chinners, Lance Hatchell, Jay Hatchell, Hagen Mott and Chase Mizzell. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5:00-7:00 PM at Bryant Funeral Home, St. George. Dennis was born on November 4, 1941, in Harleyville, a son of the late John Jay Mizzell and Sarah Bowman Mizzell. He was a 1959 graduate of St. George High School, attended Clemson University and was a dispatcher with Smith Trucking. He was a former member of the St. George Jaycees, Orangeburg Elks Lodge and a longtime member of the Harleyville Southern Methodist Church where he was the church treasurer. A son predeceased him, David E. Mizzell and a brother, John Harold Mizzell. Surviving is his wife, Carolyn W. Mizzell; a brother, Charles Edward (Frankie) Mizzell, all of Harleyville; daughter-in-law, Stephanie Mizzell (Mark Christopher) Niemeyer, Lexington; granddaughter, Samantha Mizzell Niemeyer (Gregory Hunter) Seabolt, Lexington; great-grandsons, David Hunter Seabolt and Scout Lee Seabolt and expecting third grandson, Clay Christopher Seabolt; and a number of nieces and nephews. Lt. Col Joseph Francis Platz, Jr. , Ret. US Air Force, widower of Minnie Lee DeWitt Platz, of Green Cove Springs, Florida, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, November 25, 2023. Graveside Funeral Services with Military Honors will be held at 1:30 PM on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at Bowman Memorial Cemetery. Joseph was born on May 3, 1937, in Newark, New Jersey, the son of the late Joseph Francis Platz, Sr. and Gladys Schwaner Platz. He was a graduate of Rutgers University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Ceramic Engineering and Webster University where he received a Masters in Business Administration. Joe was a career pilot in the US Air Force and served in the Vietnam War. After retiring from the US Air Force, he was an insurance agent. After his second retirement, Joe spent his time traveling and exploring in his motor home. He was an active member of the VFW Post 1988 and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Green Cove Springs, FL. Joe was predeceased by his parents, Joseph Sr. , and Gladys, his wife, Minnie, and grandson, Kyle duPlessis. Ida Lee Nettles Garvin, 90, of Reevesville, widow of Willie L. Garvin, Sr. , entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, November 28, 2023. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday at Reevesville Baptist Church with the Rev. Bobby Etheridge and Chaplin George Moore officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Shawn Pool, Erick Williams, Richard Mock, Eric Mock, Rex Allen Wimberly, Justin Williams and Strait Lyle. Visitation will be an hour before the church service. Ida Lee was born on December 15, 1932, in Hendersonville, SC, a daughter of the late George H. Nettles, Sr. and Lucille Bunton Nettles. She was a seamstress for 35 years with Country Miss Dress Factory. She was a member of Reevesville Baptist Church, loved sewing and making crafts. She was predeceased by siblings, Ramona N. Barrrineau and George H. Martha Gail Davis Sosebee moved up to the Father's House on Wednesday, November 15, 2023. Born in Pickens, SC, on September 14, 1953, she was the daughter of the late Lee Roy Davis and Amelia Elizabeth Skelton of Greenville. She was a member of Spring Valley Baptist Church, Columbia. Gail was the "perfect" pastor's wife, standing by her husband Jerry throughout their 47 years of ministry and serving four churches. She was a devout Christian who loved her Lord, church, family, and friends. She loved the Children's ministry in her churches and sang in the choir. Though Alzheimer's took her body, she never lost the loving smile that always characterized her. She served as a Customer Service Representative in Insurance for 41 years, 20 years of which she served through Peoples First in Rock Hill, SC. Next to the love for her Lord Jesus, she loved her family. From the first smile when they met to the last smile she shared on earth, she was the devoted wife and ministry partner to her husband Jerry for 51 years. She gave all the joy and happiness she could to her two sons and their wives, Joel and Tracy and Drew and Tressa. She gave her undivided attention to her four precious grandchildren who gave her wonderful joy and a lot of fun, Jake Konnor, Anna Catherine, Ebby Elizabeth, and Benjamin Cody Sosebee. The youngest of six children, her siblings always affectionately called her "Sweet" Gail. Her sisters were close all throughout her life: Mary Gentry (Terry), Sherry Davis, Betty Parnell (Lloyd), and Donna Brewer. She was predeceased by her parents, Lee Roy and Liz Davis; her brother, Lee Davis; her sister, Genny Collins; and two brothers-in-law, Don Collins and Larry Brewer. She loved her sisters-in-love, Brenda Singer, Margaret Adams, Agnes Carter, and Gale Sosebee. Her best friends with whom she traveled "her world" with, Rev. Gary and Nita Anderson and Rev. Robbin and Lucy King. A special group of "her ladies" she loved and invested much time with over 20 years was the Growing in Grace Women's Ministry at Northside Baptist in Rock Hill. A Celebration of Life will be held at Spring Valley Baptist Church, 91 Polo Road, Columbia, SC 29223, Sunday, November 19, 2023 at 1:30 pm with Revs. C. Gary Anderson and Blake Jenkins officiating. The visitation will follow the service in the Fellowship Building. Elizabeth "Beth" van Haastrecht, of Edisto Beach, widow of John Peter van Haastrecht, Jr. , entered into eternal rest on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at her home. A Funeral Service will be held 1:00 PM Sunday, November 12, 2023, at Presbyterian Church on Edisto Island with the Reverend Ashley Sanders officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall. A service will be held in Bolton, Ontario, Canada at a later date. Beth was born on November 12, 1946, in Augusta, Georgia, a daughter of the late William Bryce Bryan and Emma Louise Prontaut Bryan. She was a 1965 graduate of North Augusta High School, attended the University of South Carolina Aiken and a 1969 graduate of University of South Carolina. She was a member of the Edisto Island Yacht Club and the Presbyterian Church on Edisto Island. Beth was a jokester from a young age and was a true Southern Belle. She competed and won many beauty pageants that funded her college education. She loved her grandchildren and spending time with her family and friends at her favorite place, Edisto Beach. She was predeceased by brother-in-law, Dick Aldridge and sister-in-law, Beth Bryan. Sherman "Dougie" Murray Albergotti, husband of Merilyn B. Albergotti, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, November 1, 2023. A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 AM Friday, November 3, 2023, at Harleyville Southern Methodist Church. The family will receive friends an hour before the service in the church. Dougie was born on November 27, 1953, in Orangeburg, a son of the late Sherman Jackson Albergotti and Elizabeth Murray Albergotti. He was a 1973 graduate of Mims Academy, a maintenance technician at Giant Cement Plant. He, along with his wife, Merilyn, later opened three Subway franchises. He was a member of the Harleyville Southern Methodist Church. He loved to cook and entertain his family and friends and was an avid Gamecock fan. One of his greatest pleasures in life was spending time with his grandchildren and enjoying the beautiful views of Lake Moultrie from his favorite chair. Surviving is his wife, Merilyn B.
