"David \u0026quot;Dave\u0026quot; Lee Jones, 44, succumbed to cancer on August 31, 2023. Dave was born to Anne (Thompson) and Donald Jones on October 18, 1978 in Perry County, Kentucky. Born and raised in Kentucky, Dave earned his Bachelor\u0027s degree (English) and Masters degree (Creative Writing) from Morehead State University. He later received his Doctorate in English, Professional Writing from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA. Dave\u0027s work was published in dozens of publications and he presented at several conferences. Dave served as an English instructor at Old Dominion University, University of Southern Indiana, University of Evansville, Kentucky Wesleyan College and Owensboro Technical and Community College before he found his calling in user experience, where he worked for 11 years. In September 2013, Dave met the love of his life, Kristy Swanson, and they married on January 19, 2019. He knew immediately that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with Kristy and he kept that promise. Dave and Kristy enjoyed hiking, watching baseball, and spending time with family, friends, and their three cats; Callie, Oreo, Tiger. Known to his closest friends as a \u0026quot;gentle giant,\u0026quot; Dave had a good heart, and was a quiet genius. His true passion in life was music. Playing guitar and writing music brought Dave joy. In fact, he saw the world through music. In addition to music, Dave was passionate about justice, the environment, his wife, and their cats. Dave found solace being part of nature. He enjoyed camping and visiting National Parks (especially Glacier) and the Northshore of Minnesota was his happy place. Last year, Dave achieved a life goal of swimming with sharks while visiting the Galapagos Islands. Dave was a great friend and a true Cubs fan. His knowledge, talent, and compassion will be missed. Left to cherish Dave\u0027s love and light are his wife, Kristy Swanson; mother, Anne (Thompson) Jones; brothers, Donald Jones and Paul Runyon; sister, Marian (Larry Fields). Dave is also survived by loving nieces and nephews. Dave was preceded in death by his father, Donald, and brother, Ronald Jones. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Sherry Rae Johnson, a cherished wife, mother, and dedicated community member. Sherry was described as sweet, kind, \u0026amp; caring by nearly everyone she met. She loved skiing, sunsets, dancing, exercise, and pancakes, but most important to her was her family and faith. She is survived by her devoted husband of 51 years, Keith, and lovingly remembered by her sons Ryan (Meghan) and Kevin (Allison) and her cherished grandchildren Brenna, Lauren, Alyssa, Ty, and Tanner. Sherry was a caring mother and grandmother, raising her family with unwavering love and support. Sherry\u0027s commitment to education led her to St. Catherine University, where she pursued and obtained her teaching degree. Her passion for nurturing young minds led her to a fulfilling career as an elementary school teacher. Later, she contributed significantly to the family\u0027s staffing business, earning a stellar reputation for genuine care and consideration for those she worked with. Beyond her professional endeavors, Sherry dedicated over 15 years to serving as a hospice volunteer, exemplifying her boundless compassion. She was a beacon of leadership in various volunteer roles within her church and community, leaving an indelible mark on all she touched. Sherry extended her kindness globally, participating in several international mission trips. A reviewal will be held at Washburn-McReavy in Edina from 9:30-11 am on December 13th, followed by a service at Meeting House Church, formally Colonial Church, in Edina at 12 pm. "Patricia O\u0027Neill Martin (Trish), 79, passed away on December 4, 2023, in Eden Prairie, MN. Born in Glen Ellyn, IL, to Peggy and Elmer O\u0027Neill, she lived most of her life in Long Lake, MN, with her husband William (Bill), who preceded her in death in 2020. She is survived by her four children, Lauren (Rick Hellebrand), Michelle (Robert Radtke), Christopher (Allisyn), and Emily (Scott) McPherson, and six grandchildren, Alexandra, Eva, Oliver, Georgia, Adeline and Theo. Her whole family was beside her during her long journey through hospice. Trish\u0027s life was a quiet revolution - she went against the grain. When Bill and Trish moved to the Twin Cities in 1973, they bought a place in the country, and even as the suburbs grew around them, Trish maintained their old farmhouse. She cared for her family and her surroundings through craft and using her hands. She built toys and a dollhouse, made clothes, and taught herself home repair from a \u0026quot;how to\u0026quot; encyclopedia. She was a \u0026quot;maker\u0026quot; before it was a movement. Her other passion was cooking and learning how food can be good for the soul and the body. Dinner was a labor of love. She shaped every aspect of the farmhouse into a home, including proudly displaying artwork from Aunt Honey, Grandma Flora, and her mother Peggy. No home of Trish\u0027s was ever complete without a Sheltie underfoot! Trish had a deep and spiritual connection to horses and was a dedicated horse trainer and rider - a total horse person! She spent her days with her horse, Ashley (and before her Blue Eyes), and her \u0026quot;barn friends,\u0026quot; or at St. Edward\u0027s with her \u0026quot;church friends,\u0026quot; where she served on the altar guild, as senior warden, as an elder, and as a choir member. Trish spent the last 15 years of her life helping her husband Bill live with Parkinson\u0027s disease as his steadfast caregiver. After it no longer possible to remain at the family home in Long Lake, she was grateful and relieved to be able to move next door to her daughter Emily and her family. \u0026quot;The Compound\u0026quot;, as we called it, became the hub for weekly family gatherings and Trish was able to meet her granddaughter at the bus stop after school, create works of art with her grandchildren and host nourishing meals for the family. She was diagnosed with Alzheimer\u0027s shortly before Bill\u0027s death, which progressed very quickly after his passing. In her final days, she put down life\u0027s armor and became even more connected to those around her as she relied on them for the very things she spent her life providing. We are deeply indebted to the staff at Flagstone in Eden Prairie for caring for her in her final years. Throughout Trish\u0027s life, she slowed down and listened to her family and friends, connected to animals, birds, plants and the natural world. Trish had a sixth sense for tuning into the subtleties of life, patience, care and artisanship. She displayed and lived these virtues deeply but did not broadcast them loudly. She was the root structure for her large and flourishing family. Her essence now radiates into the world through her children and grandchildren. She had a strength and resolve that was unwavering, a steely backbone that was the foundation of her family. All of us who were gifted with knowing her will miss her spirit and heart. A funeral service will be at St. Edward the Confessor Episcopal Church in Wayzata, MN on December 16, 2023 at 1:30pm with a reception and celebration of life at 3:00. "Hansen, LaVerne Ann \u0026quot;Ann\u0026quot; Age 103, Ann is preceded in death by her loving husband of 52 years Vern. Born on August 5, 1920, on a dairy farm in West Rock, MN, Ann was the fifth child of Axel and Lillie Johnson and grew up with six brothers. Marlen, Glen, Wally, Lonnie, Dennis and Donald. Two more brothers died in infancy. She graduated from Pine City HS in 1939. After graduation, she was hired by Beauford Johnson as his secretary at the East Central Electric Association. From 1941-1944 she managed the Office and Price Board managing rationing for Pine County. Ann met Vern Hansen in 1943. Vern was the manager of the Pine City Creamery. They were married by Ann\u0027s brother, Marlen Johnson, at West Rock Methodist Church on June 4, 1944. They lived in Pine City for about six years. During that time Ann was Vern\u0027s secretary in the dairy business. They both learned to fly solo and bought a two-seater Cessna airplane and later a four-seater Navion. In 1947 they built a log lake home on Shell Lake in Wisconsin. They owned a dairy in Newton, Iowa, from 1950-1956. They established the first franchise for Tastee Freeze soft-serve ice cream. In 1957 they toured in a travel trailer visiting different parts of the U. S. looking for their next home. They decided to move to Houston, TX. They built four forty-unit apartment buildings, which they sold in 1958 and started construction on the Surrey House Hotel and Restaurant. The hotel was built very close to the Houston Astrodome and M. D. Anderson Cancer Center. Ann was a very successful business woman, before many women were active in business. After selling The Surrey House in 1979 they retired. Over several years they owned 2 condominiums in Padre Island TX, and one in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. They loved to travel and took many trips around the U. S and abroad. Vern died of a sudden heart attack in 1996. After living in Texas for 44 years, Ann made the decision to move back to Minnesota to RosePoint Senior Apartments in Roseville. She was the longest residing resident at RosePointe. She was always interested in the business side of RosePointe, provided lovely bouquets of flowers for the lobby and was loved by everyone. She was an active member and benefactor of Centennial United Methodist Church, which her brother Marlen helped found. She was also a benefactor to Vision Loss Resources, since she suffered from macular degeneration. She became the family matriarch. Having no children of her own, she adopted the whole Johnson and Hanson clans. She had 54 nieces and nephews. If you wanted to know what was going on in the family, you called Auntie Ann. She spread her love around and kept the families together with her phone calls, updates, sharing of photos and just keeping in touch. Services will be held at the Centennial United Methodist Church, 1524 Co Rd. C2, Roseville, MN at 11:00 AM Tuesday, December 19, 2023. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service. "Karen Hagen passed away peacefully with her daughters by her side on Dec. 1st at age 82. She had been married to Dale for almost 52 years before he passed away 7 years ago. Karen loved home decorating and designing window treatments, working for several companies before starting her own business, Windsor Designs. Her style, her flair, and fashion sense were noted by all. However, she loved her family and pets above all else. She was the \u0026quot;hostess with the mostness\u0026quot; at so many family celebrations by adding her creative custom touches. More than that, her kindness and concern for others, even in her last days, were the things that everyone noticed. "Donna Jean Roemer 3/1/1936 - 12/3/2023 Donna Jean (Reese) Roemer passed away peacefully on December 3, 2023. She was born March 1, 1936, to Earl and Carolyn (Bittner) Reese. The third of four sisters, she grew up in Winona, MN, and graduated from Winona High School in 1954. Donna married Walter Scherbring in Winona in June, 1954. Walter passed away seven years later, leaving her a widow at the age of 25. Independent and strong, she began working at Watkins Co. in Winona, embraced being \u0026quot;the cool aunt\u0026quot; to her numerous nieces and nephews, and bought herself a Mustang convertible. In 1966, she met and fell in love with Jim (Henry James) Roemer, and they were married on July 22, 1967. They moved to the Twin Cities, settling in New Hope, where they welcomed two children: Henry \u0026quot;Stephen\u0026quot; in 1970 and Krista Marie in 1972. She was extremely proud of her family, and was a loving and supportive wife and mother. She and Jim enjoyed hosting friends for \u0026quot;card club,\u0026quot; and she played a mean 500. In the early \u002780s, she began working for Robbinsdale School District 281, where she held multiple roles for over two decades. Imagine her children\u0027s delight when she began her position as hall monitor at their high school! Donna dearly loved her children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, and enjoyed keeping up with their lives and accomplishments. She will be missed and remembered by many. Donna is survived by her son Stephen (Tiffany) Roemer of Maple Grove; daughter Krista (Bill Szlaius) Cavanaugh-Szlaius of Dallas, TX; grandchildren Veronica Carolyn, Serena Josephine, and William Theodore Cavanaugh, and Maxwell Joseph Henry Roemer; sisters-in-law Mary Orlowske-Lindner and Peggy Jenson; and many nieces and nephews. Donna was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, Jim Roemer; parents Earl and Carolyn Reese; sisters Nancy Springer, LaVonne Kowalewski, and Sandra Matthees; brothers-in-law Don Springer, Dick Kowalewski, Gordon Matthees, and Mike Jenson; sister-in-law Dorothy (Kathy) Roemer, and her first husband, Walter Scherbring. "Shirley Opal (Simon) Tunsky entered God\u0027s presence on Thursday, November 30, 2023. Shirley was born on a farm near Lamberton, MN on June 13, 1936, to Elson and Bertha (Goodman) Simon. Shirley was the sixth of six children. She is survived by her husband Rodney Tunsky; children Kathryn Branchcomb, Linda Fields, Jerry (Nancy) Weinzetl, Janet (Gordie) St. Aubin, and David (Angie) Weinzetl; 17 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Mavis; as well as many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bertha and Elson Simon; husband, Gerald Weinzetl; sister, Viola (Gilbert); brothers Lorren (Margaret), Melvin, Merle (Lorraine), and Carl (Mary).
