David Geigle Obituary

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather David Scott Geigle age 75, born June 23, 1948 in Salt Lake City, UT died peacefully in his sleep August 22, 2023. David Geigle was raised in the Mill Creek area of Salt Lake City just under Mount Olympus. He went to Skyline High School where he met Dana Rae Pribyl who would become his wife of 53 years. Theirs was a magical meeting and a beautiful loving union that inspires and blesses their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren every day. He enjoyed great independence as a young boy. He spent his summer nights sleeping under the stars and his days down in the hollow, a ravine across the street from his home. His two dogs, Lucky and Lady were his constant companions. He loved music. He played the saxophone and was invited to join a traveling dance band while in high school. They won awards in competitions and were excellent musicians, some going on to play professionally. He played classic guitar and piano for his family, singing hymns and all kinds of folk and other songs. "Rows and rows of angel hair," "sittin' on the dock of the bay," "puff the magic dragon," "rain on the roof," even "hang on sloopy," were some of just a few lines from songs that will be remembered because of David. Dana and David have dedicated their lives to their family members, and they love each and every one. He emanated a lifetime of abundance mentality and building of others. David has been a rock and guide for many through good and hard times. Professionally he excelled at providing for his large family thanks to an excellent education and great beginning as an Officer in the U. S. Coast Guard, then employed by Burroughs Corp. and Unisys Corp. He worked internationally in London, England and Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. His doctorate in business and many stories from his ten years working at the Coca-Cola Company instructed and entertained students in his retirement years as an associate professor at the Oregon Institute of Technology and Texas A&M University. He has visited every continent but was always happy to come home. He would often say to his young children, "I go away, but I always come back. " His children and grandchildren remember him loving to be outdoors, playing any sport or game they wanted, especially waterskiing where some can still remember him laying out horizontally on the water, his elbow touching the glass, with a huge rooster tail spray at his back. He could snow ski down anything, his skis tight together no matter how steep the terrain. They have vivid memories of him playing back yard or beach football, frisbee, soccer, baseball, volleyball, croquet, golf, capture the flag, dodgeball, pickleball, swings, swimming, kites, fishing, go-karts, pottery, Elmo, tree forts, card games, anything; literally anything the kids wanted to do he was excited to play. He was a gifted storyteller, joke creator, and riddle challenger. He always knew just the right questions to ask to help with anything on their minds. He dedicated his life to the Savior and served in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in many capacities, notably, four times leading congregations as a Bishop or Branch President. He and Dana just recently finished a mission as BYU Pathway missionaries. He is known for creating catchy phrases that would stick and teach, his most recent being, "Choose the Savior. Choose His Church, and Choose each other. " He is cherished by his loving spouse, Dana Rae Geigle and children: Jennifer G. Johnson, Jeremy S. Geigle, Elizabeth A. Frank, and Catherine M. Sundberg and their spouses; his grandchildren: Amanda, Janie, Sarah, Peter, Benjamin, Abraham, Andrew, Samuel, Tessa, Audralynn, Marie, Joshua, Hannah, Noah, Tofer, Charlie, Faith, Mary, Eve, Gideon, Annie, Juliet, and their spouses; His great grandchildren: Emma Rae, and Belle Marie; His brother and wife: Larry and Linda Geigle; and cousins, nieces, nephews, and beloved friends. David was preceded in death by parents Elaine and Albert Geigle and siblings, Ray Geigle, Ron Geigle, and Sharon Geigle. A memorial service for David's family will be held Monday September 11, 2023, 12:30-1:30 PM at 500 W. McDonwell School Rd in Colleyville, TX. The service will also be live streamed at the link which will be posted below. We regret that we could not reach everyone personally with this sad news.
