David Bernard Fifer, 68, of Edwardsville IL passed away at 4:00 pm on Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, IL. David was born November 21, 1954 in Highland IL, to the union of John H. and Elizabeth P. Fifer. David is survived by two children, Jerome Pillow and Charnele Pillow, two grandchildren, Andrew and Elizabeth. He is also survived by five siblings, a brother George and sisters Josephine, Fay, LuAnn and Rachel along with a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Elizabeth, two brothers John Jr, Will and one sister Felicia. David enjoyed many things, such as spending time with family and friends, fishing, gardening, small building projects and barbecuing. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him and will forever be remembered. Instead of formal services the family is having a celebration of life with reflections and refreshments on October 14, 2023 at the Pin Oak Township Hall in Edwardsville from 2:00pm - 5:00pm. Cremation rites have been entrusted to the Sunset Hill Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Glen Carbon, IL.

Barbara J. Weathers, 89, of Edwardsville, Illinois passed away peacefully on December 3, 2023 at Stillwater Senior Living. She was born to Jack and Sadie (Gass) Watkins on June 3, 1934 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She married Paul Weathers on May 14, 1953. They enjoyed 69 years together before his passing in 2022. Those left to cherish Barbara's memory are her children Sharon (Jim) Commerford, Roy (Donna) Weathers, and Brian (Pamela) Weathers, 2 sisters Edith McDaniel and Geneva Medlock, brother Gary Watkins, grandchildren Jase Bennett, Brian Michael Weathers, Charli Trawick, great grandchildren, and many more family and friends. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband Paul Weathers, brother J. C. Watkins, sisters Ina May Hanley and Delores Hemmer. Barbara loved to sew and was talented in her needlework. She was a gifted artist who hand painted portraits at Weathers Photography studio, she also enjoyed painting as a hobby. Paul and Barbara were very active with the American Legion in Granite City for many years and she served as President of the Ladies Auxiliary while she was a member. Some of her favorite things were peanut butter, playing bingo and snacking on popcorn. Barbara enjoyed time with her family and she will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Services will be held at Sunset Hill Funeral Home, 50 Fountain Drive, Glen Carbon, Illinois with visitation Thursday, December 7, 2023, from 6:00 p. m. to 9:00 p. m. An additional viewing will be held the next day on Friday, December 8, 2023 at 12:00 p. m. and the funeral service will begin at 1:00 p. m. Linda J. Valle, 70 of Edwardsville, Illinois passed away on Thursday, November 23, 2023 at Evelyn's House in Creve Coeur, Missouri. Linda was born on September 29, 1953 in Newport News, Virginia; the daughter of the late William Roscoe and Nona Colleen (Zook) Townsend Malone. Linda was a proud 5th grade teacher at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic School in St. Louis and was a painter for the Painters Local 120 out of St. Louis. Linda enjoyed her days of being outdoors and reading a good book. Linda will be remembered for her heart of gold, always putting others before herself and her special love of her family and all the special times they shared together. Linda is survived by and will be missed by her loving husband; Glen Valle, whom she married on September 4, 1992; daughter, Amy Thompson of Granite City, Illinois; sister, Luann Foster and Dennis Clark of Granite City, Illinois; sister-in-law, Cynthia Sue Townsend of Granite City, Illinois and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, great-great-nephews and many other close family members and friends. In addition to her parents, Linda was preceded in death by her step-dad; Robert Malone; brother, Charles Townsend. In celebration of Linda's life, a memorial gathering will be held on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 from 3:00 p. m. until the time of the services at 5:00 p. m. at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City with Pastor Greg Dickerman officiating. Michael Wayne Potts, 55, of Edwardsville, IL died on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL. He was born on January 3, 1968 in Gary, IN to Harry "Vic" Potts and Dorothy (Tracy) Jones. Michael married Virginia Schmutz in Pontoon Beach, IL on October 18, 2008. The U. S. Navy veteran was an editor for music productions. He did the artwork on the back of the ZZ Top album "After Burner". Michael was a personal assistant to Stevie Ray Vaughn and was the founding member of the blues ensemble at Vincennes University. He was a 34 year member of the Elks Lodge 1208 in Lawrenceville, IL. Besides his wife, Michael is survived by 3 step-daughters: Michele Rickard of Collinsville, Angela (Tony Misuraca) Breithaupt of Jerseyville and Sarah (Russell) Crane of Jerseyville; a step-son, Stephen Breithaupt of Edwardsville; 12 grandchildren: Jay Rickard, Cody Rickard, Vicktorya Hart, Jewleah Heck, Savannah Heck, Justin Richardson, Erika Richardson-Breithaupt, Trevor Liefer, Connor Ulrich, Carter "Jo" Ulrich and Lily Crane and 5 great grandchildren: Elijah, Everly, Logan, Atlas and Naomi. Michael is preceded in death by his parents and a grandchild, Grace Misuraca. Donald E. Welborn, 87, of Edwardsville, Illinois passed away at 6:17 p. m. on Thursday, September 7, 2023, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville. He was born April 25, 1936, in Granite City, a son of the late Netter "Jack" Welborn and the late Nellie (Gosnell) Sharpe. He married Joyce Ann (Evans) Welborn on October 6, 1973, in Granite City and she survives. Don retired in 1996 as a Yardmaster after over 38 years of dedicated service with the Terminal Railroad Association. The United States Army veteran proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. He served as a volunteer for 20 years with the Anderson Hospital Auxiliary and was a faithful member of the Edwardsville Masonic Lodge #0099 in Glen Carbon. He always enjoyed his time tinkering in his basement workshop or tending to his yard and landscaping. He was also an avid reader, enjoyed going to the movies and being with his grandkids and great grandkids. Don will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends. In addition to his beloved wife of nearly 50 years, he is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Jennifer Haring of Edwardsville and Julie and Tony Griffin of Houston, Texas; three grandchildren, Whitney Davis, Jordan and Jordan Huber and Luke and Aly Griffin; five great grandchildren, Kaylee Shoffner, Emma Edwards, Gracie Oliver, Lexi Griffin, Gunner Huber and Levi Griffin; sister-in-law, Becky Welborn of Springfield, Missouri; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Judy and Ken Goodner of Rockport, Texas; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bill and Diane Evans of Maryville; nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Wesley Ryan Haring; a great granddaughter, Chloe Welch and his brother, Dwaine "Gary" Welborn. In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road in Glen Carbon on Thursday, September 14, 2023, from 10:00 a. m. until time of funeral service at 11:30 a. m. with Reverend Sharon Autenrieth officiating.
