Charles (Chuck) Norris

Charles (Chuck) Norris, 88, of Kerrville, passed away on February 24, 2024, in Kerrville, Texas. He was born in Truman, Arkansas to Edward Norris and Louise (Hodge) Norris on May 19, 1935. Chuck grew up in Flint, Michigan. A Veteran of the U.S. Army, he had his training at Fort Knox, Kentucky for Radio Operator. His first assignment was Korea just before the end of the war. Chuck left the Army after 4 years with the rank of Sergeant but reentered the Army a few years later and went to Officers School at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. In 1969, he reported to Vietnam. After Vietnam, he was in El Paso, Texas and then requested to go to Germany to serve as Commanding Officer for Air Defense at the rank of Captain. It was in Germany that Chuck met the love of his life, Edda. They were married shortly there after. In 1975, they came to the U.S. for Chuck's final assignment at Malmstrom Air Force base NORAD, in Great Falls, Montana. Chuck left military service with two Bronze Stars, the Gallantry Medal, and multiple ARCOMS. Chuck and his family moved to Las Vegas, Nevada where they spent over 40 years owning and managing several Dairy Queen's. Chuck also worked for the Nevada Election Dept for 10 years before retiring in Kerrville. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents as well as 3 sisters and a brother. Chuck is survived by his loving and caring wife, Edda of 50+ years; his son, Luis (Kelli) and the apple of Oma and Opa's eye, their grandson Gage of Kerrville as well as their son, Mike (Tea) and his sister, Ruth Nave of Flint, Michigan. Funeral services will be held at Grimes Funeral Chapels on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at 2 PM, immediately followed by a graveside burial at Glen Rest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Leukemia Society or the Heart Foundation.

Russell Baker went to be with his Lord and Savior on February 12, 2024, at Waterside Care Center, Kerrville. Russell was born on February 18, 1960, in Hereford, Texas. He attended Big Lake High School, where he played on the football team. He worked for JK Bernhard Construction. He loved his work and his boss Kevin. At the time of his death, he was a member of Open Arms Ministry, Ingram. He was an avid sports fan, especially football, and cheered on the Dallas Cowboys. He enjoyed time hanging out at the river with friends and family and throwing horseshoes. His greatest love was time spent with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Elmer and LaMoyne Baker, Nettie Eldridge and Sid Graves. Russell is survived by his wife of 21 years, Patricia Burgess of Kerrville; mother, Carol Savage of San Angelo; father, Leon Baker and wife, Crickett of Bandera; children, Misty Frerichs of Baytown, Angie Skinner of Boerne, Natalie Cato of Texas, Dallas Baker of Amarillo, Treaver Baker of Amarillo, Dennis Burgess of Kerrville, Ashleigh Legg of Ingram and Brandon Burgess of Ingram; siblings, Ronda Graves of Barnhart, Tenna Bishop of Barnhart, Chris Williams of St. Johns, FL and Michael Curry of Humble; along with numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Patricia Bowles, age 78, of Kerrville, TX, went to be with her Lord on February 16, 2024. She passed from this life peacefully. Pat put herself through school by working two jobs. She was able to get her master's degree in social work. She worked in Fort Worth and Brownwood before making her home in Kerrville. She had a private practice for over twenty years before retiring due to a cancer diagnosis. She was a lover of animals and had Great Danes as well as numerous rescue dogs. She also loved cats. She spent many hours with the dogs at the river. Flat Rock was a very special place for her to take them. She was an avid reader of anything she could find, mostly murder mysteries. Books to Share was her favorite store. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, February 23, 2024, at Grimes Funeral Chapels. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Freeman-Fritts Animal Shelter.

Betty Thomas Collins, 89, of Kerrville, TX, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2024 in Kerrville, TX, after battling pancreatic cancer. She was born in Canute, OK to Arthenia Duncan Thomas and Burris G. Thomas on July 17, 1934, having two older brothers and an older sister. Betty married Worley Shultz in May 1952 in Canute, OK. Betty attended the public schools in Canute, she was valedictorian of her high school graduating class and attended Girl's State. Upon her marriage, Betty moved to Dodge City, KS. Betty went to work for the local electric company. She was a member of First Christian Church where she helped with the 3rd grade Sunday School class, Vacation Bible School and attended Adult Sunday School class. Betty was a member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority. She worked at Fidelity State Bank, as a Director for many years. Upon her retirement, she moved to Albuquerque, NM, where she met Frank Collins; they married in October 1981. Survivors include husband of 42 years Frank Collins, Kerrville, TX; daughter Kathleen Alps, husband George A. Alps, Jr. of Longmont, CO; son Lane Shultz, wife Peggy of Tulsa, OK; brother Donnie Gale Thomas, wife Carolyn, of Broomfield, CO; step-sons Edward and Sabrina Collins of San Francisco Bay Area, William and Yvonne Collins of Albuquerque, NM, Thomas and Karen Collins of Albuquerque, NM and John Collins of Pueblo, CO; grandchildren Brayden and Landen Collins, Pueblo, CO, David Collins, Alicia Collins, Albuquerque, NM, Dusty and Lindsey Wilson, Lincoln, NE, Jessica Siler, Bistro, OK, Terri Liggett, Pratt, KS, Ashley Woodworth, Tulsa, OK, Iris Wilson of Omaha, NE, Jayonah Shultz, Jerrmie Carr, Joshua Carr of Tulsa, OK. Betty and Frank traveled over most of the United States in Frank's airplane. They particularly enjoyed stops in New Mexico and Colorado. As a professor's wife, she enjoyed living in Lubbock, TX, Miami, FL, and Laredo, TX where Frank taught at Texas Tech University, University of Miami, and Texas A&M International University. She was an expert seamstress and produced much craftwork. She particularly enjoyed working with the "craft ladies" at the Point Craft Group. Both she and her husband were members of Kerrville Global Methodist Church. Special thanks to Peterson Hospice for their wonderful and loving care. Her visitation will be from 1 pm to 2 pm. The funeral will begin at 2 pm, both held at Grimes Funeral Chapels, 728 Jefferson Street, Kerrville, TX on March 2. Interment will be in her family plot at Canute Cemetery, Canute, OK on March 9 at 10 am.
