David Butler Allen, 87, of Clayton, NC, entered the presence of his Lord on September 10, 2023, with his family by his side. He was born to the late David Nelson Allen and Agnes Duncan Allen, February 1, 1936, in Clayton, NC. He graduated from Clayton High School in 1955. He married Shelby Jean Moore on July 27, 1958, following her graduation from high school. She was the love of his life. They made their home in the Clayton/Garner area and were married for nearly 64 years. David is survived by one sister, Carolyn McCoy, of Clayton, NC; and one sister-in-law, Betty Allen, of Garner, NC; as well as three children: Ron (Janice) Allen, of Charlotte, NC; Don (Lorie) Allen of Greenville, SC; and Donna (Joe) Reddy of Atlanta, GA. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents as well as five siblings: Jack Allen, of Goldsboro, NC; Edna Blinson, of Clayton, NC; Sue Underwood, of Clayton, NC; Helen Turner, of Ramseur, NC; and Nelson Allen, of Garner, NC. David was employed by Watson Electrical Construction Company for most of his working career. Sensing the Lord wanted him to use his electrical gifts in ministry, he moved to Greenville, SC, where he worked for ten years in the electrical department of Bob Jones University. Though confronted with several challenges in life, David consistently demonstrated a strong faith in God to meet his every need. He was known as a kind-hearted man who dearly loved his entire family. The most important aspect of David's 87 years of life is that, as a young man, he came to faith in Jesus Christ. He loved the Lord and served Him faithfully in many different capacities in the local churches of which they were a part. Though he will be sorely missed by his family and friends, we rejoice that he is with his Savior and has been made completely whole. Services to celebrate his life will be held on Friday, September 15, 2023, at 1:00pm in the chapel of McLaurin Funeral Home in Clayton, NC. The interment will follow the services at Pinecrest Memorial Park next to the funeral home. The family will receive friends at starting at 12:00pm at the funeral home.
