"NORA, VIRGINIA - David H. Adkins, 55, passed away with his loving wife by his side on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at his home. He was born in Norton, Virginia; the son of the late William Jess and Mary Elizabeth Hale Adkins. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Loretta Jenkins, Janice Mullins, Joyce Mullins, and Martha Stapleton; and three brothers, Thomas Adkins, Johnny Adkins, and Jessie Adkins. David was a faithful member of the Rejoice Worship Center and was dedicated to The Learning Center, where he was known as Poppy Daddy. He loved to spend time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Cathy Adkins; loving children, Dakota, Cheyenne, Xander, and Reagan; four sisters, Ruth Hamm of Coeburn, Virginia, Judy Yates of Coeburn, Virginia, Lois Plaster of Coeburn, Virginia and Missy Culbertson of Norton, Virginia; one brother, Mark Adkins and wife, Susie of Coeburn, Virginia; his mother-in-law, Frances Wiley of Coeburn, Virginia; special nephew, Brad; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services for David H. Adkins will be conducted at 7:00 p. m. , Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at Castlewood Funeral Home Chapel, Castlewood, Virginia, with Rev. D. J. Couch, Matthew Jacobs, and Neil Johnson officiating. Committal Services and Interment will be conducted at 11:00 a. m. , Wednesday, September 13, 2023, in Greenwood Acres, Coeburn, Virginia. "CASTLEWOOD, VIRGINIA - Christopher Neil Courtney, 56, passed away on Wednesday, October 11, 2023. Chris was born in Washington, D. C. , on March 23, 1967, the son of the late Jerry Brown Courtney. He grew up in Clinton, Maryland, and moved to Castlewood, Virginia, about thirty years ago. He had many interests and skills that served him well. He was resourceful, hardworking, generous, and a loyal friend. Chris was also a wonderful dad and papaw. He was a skilled electrician by trade, but there wasn't much that he couldn't do or fix. He encountered many health problems over the past couple of years that prevented him from doing the things he enjoyed the most. Chris grew up with two loving parents, three siblings, and a very large extended family. He professed his faith in Jesus Christ as a young boy and assured us during his darkest days in the hospital that he knew where he would spend eternity. He is survived by the light of his life, his daughter, Shelby Ramsey and husband, Justin, who had become a dear friend to Chris; two granddaughters, Aubrie and Bailee; Sophie Alsup, whom he loved like a daughter; his mother, Mary Courtney; three siblings, Michelle Carlyon and husband, Scott, Rhonda Adams and husband, Doug, and Jerry Courtney and wife, Emily; five nieces and nephews, Ethan, Fisher, Piper, Hudson, and Brooks; and a close friend, John Easterly. A man who loved God, was a pastor, and a friend to many, who worked hard for his family as a farmer, coal miner, and asphalt paver. He was born in Russell County, Virginia, the son of the late Clarence and Maggie Cantrell Jordan. He was preceded in death by one sister, Laura Delton Jordan, and one brother, Frankie Scott Jordan. George worked for Pope Paving Company in 1968, where he received training for the company he would later own and operate - Jordan Paving and Construction Company, Inc. He worked at Russell Manufacturing Company, Lebanon, Virginia, and retired from Clinchfield Coal Company, Dante, Virginia. He was a member of the U. M. W. A. Local # 2274 - Sub District 28, where his colleagues knew him by his C. B. radio handle, \u0026quot;Pitiful. " He served as Sunday School Superintendent at the Assembly of God Church in St. Paul, Virginia, for over thirty years and was currently serving as Associate Pastor at The House of The Lord in Castlewood, Virginia. He was described by his friends as the most humble man they ever knew, who had a love in his heart for everyone. He will be tremendously missed! " Psalm 103:13 CASTLEWOOD, VIRGINIA - Our Beloved Arnold Mullins, 74, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at his son Tim's home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Russell County, Virginia on September 30, 1948, the son of the late Jason and Bonnie Keith Mullins. Arnold and Lois married on November 16, 1970, and were married for fifty-three years. Arnold did construction work for over forty-four years for Corte Construction and various other companies. He was known as one of the greatest concrete finishers. He enjoyed his hobbies which included gardening, tending to his flowers, and grouse and ginseng hunting. Arnold was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. One of the kindest people you could know. He was the love of our lives, our rock, and our everything. Life without him will be so sad. We know he is at peace being reunited with his son, Chris, and all his family in Heaven. He was a Christian and attended Open Door Tabernacle Church in Castlewood, Virginia where he loved his church family so much. He was preceded in death by one son, Christopher "Slick" Mullins; seven brothers, Orville "Bud" Mullins, Eugene Mullins, Kent Mullins, Robert Mullins, Thomas Mullins, Carlos Mullins, and infant brother, Orbie Mullins; and four sisters, Molly Shaffer, Rosa Mae Meade, Lola Meade, and Ruby Dean. He is survived by his loving wife, Lois Jessee Mullins; one son, Timothy Aaron Mullins and companion, Olivia Dollarhyde of Castlewood, Virginia; brothers, Guy Mullins and wife, Dreama of Rocky Mount, Virginia, Larry Mullins and wife, Willie of Castlewood, Virginia, one sister, Stella Easterly of Lebanon, Virginia; his precious grandchildren, Parker Mullins, whom he loved with all his heart, Alannah Mullins, his "darling", he was so proud of all her accomplishments, and had such high hopes for her; bonus grandchildren, Spencer Rudd and Remy "Lemy" Rudd, Arnold's little buddy; and several nieces and nephews.
