Darryl Soper Obituary

Darryl E. Soper, age 83 of Remus, passed away Monday, May 8, 2023, at his home. He was born in Lakeview on October 25, 1939, the son of Lance and Anna (Benjamin) Soper. Darryl was a 1957 graduate of Barryton Rural Agricultural High School. He married Sharlee Floria on July 21, 1961, in Oil City. Darryl earned his Bachelor Degree and Master Degree of Educational Administration from Central Michigan University; where he enjoyed attending all sporting events. He was a dedicated teacher, coach, and principal. Darryl served 30 years in education; ten years each in Mecosta, Barryton and Remus. He was awarded the Lions Citizen of the Year for his contributions to multiple programs at Remus Junior High School as an Administrative Leader. Darryl was a talented basketball and football coach. He was a proud "Chip" fan, whether it was Central Michigan or Chippewa Hills. Darryl enjoyed keeping busy, especially on his hobby farm with hay and straw or working with cedar trees. He looked forward to watching sports and tracking stats; something he was excellent at. Darryl will be remembered for his work ethic and loyalty, which he passed on to his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Sharlee of Remus; children, Stacy (Alan) Crystal of Barryton, DeAnna Soper (Mike Parsons) of Clare, Bamber Soper (Dave Gatehouse) of Remus; grandchildren, Brock (Maggie) Crystal of Mt. Pleasant, Bridget (TJ) Hahn of Stanwood, Brad (Amber) Soper-Brigner of Barryton, Kendall Parsons of Clare, Gage (Chelsey) Corwin of Remus; great-grandchildren, Emsley, Nora, Blake, Bailey, Brooklynn, Haven and Bodhi; brother, David (Claudia) Soper of Virginia; brother-in-law, Dean (Carole) Floria of Rockford; sister-in-law, Dawn (Fred) Sprague of Mt. Pleasant; many nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, Jim and Ethel Soper. A Memorial Service will take place 1:00 p. m. Friday, May 12, 2023, at The Lighthouse Free Methodist Church, 4395 20 Mile Road, Barryton, MI 49305, with Pastor David Jewell officiating. The family will greet friends from 5:00 p. m. to 7:00 p. m. Thursday, May 11th at Church and one hour prior to the Service on Friday at Church.
