Thelma C. Saucier

May 31, 1933 - Jan 30, 2024

location-icon

Mars Hill, ME

Thelma C. (Ouellette) SaucierMom left us on January 30, 2024 to go be with her beloved husband and sons. She was born in Eagle Lake, Maine on May 31, 1933 to Henri and Philomene (Gagnon) Ouellette. She was the youngest of 15 children; always reminding us that she was the “baby” even at 90 years old.She reminisced a lot about growing up on the farm, having fun with all of her siblings, and being spoiled by them. As she got older, she graduated from high school and then worked at the Eagle Lake Town Office and at Master Lock in Connecticut. She returned home and married Maurice Saucier on June 18, 1956. They moved to Ashland that same year and started their family. A month after being married, Mom and Dad accepted her two nieces to raise as their own, which they happily did. The following year, Mom and Dad had their first child of many. Mom was a stay-at-home Mom but did occasionally work odd jobs to pay the bills or buy Christmas presents for her kids. She made Christmas wreaths or picked potatoes. When the youngest of her children had gotten older, she took a job at the school working in the kitchen. She really enjoyed seeing her “Boo-boo” there.Mom was a faithful parishioner of St. Mark’s Church in Ashland. She was a member of the Our Lady of the Snow Sodality and was a Eucharistic server. She worked on many funeral lunches and fundraisers for the church. She volunteered her time at the Good Shepherd Thrift Shop, Bread of Life program, and Aroostook Agency on Aging, as her health permitted.Mom enjoyed many adventures throughout her lifetime. She and Dad went to Alaska with some of their children, on cruises with nieces and nephews, and she even tagged along with Dad after he retired and had a part-time job traveling Maine. After Dad’s death in 1994, she continued her adventures. She went to the Holy Land twice, Niagara Falls for her 85th Birthday, and attended her kids’ and grandkids’ high school graduations, college graduations, and weddings. Those celebrations took her to California, Colorado, Texas, Arizona, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Florida, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Michigan, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Baie-St-Paul, Quebec. She especially enjoyed her yearly trips to Southwest Harbor with her sisters and then later with her children.Time spent at camp on St. Froid Lake was probably one of her most favorite pastimes. Mom spent countless and precious time up there with her family, including brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, children and grandchildren. She taught and played cribbage with her kids and grandkids. She taught us the art of ‘trishing’ (cheating) at cribbage and Charlemagne, as well. She enjoyed boat rides on the pontoon boat. She and Dad would also do some ice fishing there and on Eagle Lake.Mom was predeceased by her husband, her sons, Stan and Greg, and most of her siblings. She is survived by her sons and their wives, Jeff and Vicki, Mike and Kelley, Todd and Dee, and Bruce and Heidi, her daughters and their husbands, Marie and Chris, Carrie and Lou, Rachel and Richard, and Marguerite, and daughters-in-law, Colette and Heidi. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Trisha, Amanda, Angela, Laura, Chris, Jonny, Josh, Matthew, Haley, and Corinne, and great-grandchildren, Haley, Christina, Johnny, Cody, Ashlyn, Brooke, Aiden, Blake, Scout, Caden, and Maliyah, and great-great-grandchildren, Daisy and Alvin. She leaves behind her sister, Cynthia, and her sister-in-law, Bertha, and many nieces and nephews.Mom taught us and our children (and the entire community) so much more---the value of faith, family, forgiveness, and friendship. She was the model for a life well lived. Love you “big”.Relatives are invited to call 9:30AM Friday, February 9, 2024 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church 13 Allen Farm Road Ashland, Maine 04732, where a Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11AM. In lieu of flowers, Mom wanted donations to go to the Our Lady of the Snow Sodality to help assist with funeral lunches. Donations can be sent to Carrie Lorenzo, 292 Watson Memorial Dr., Caribou, ME 04736 or through Venmo….@Carrie-Lorenzo-3 . Arrangements in care of Duncan-Graves Funeral Home 30 Church Street Presque Isle, Maine 04769. Online memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.duncan-graves.com
