"Darlene H. Rode, age 87 of Pocahontas, IL, died Thursday, October 5, 2023, at Saint Elizabeth Hospital in O\u0027Fallon, IL. She was born on Sunday, April 5, 1936, in Hamel, IL, the daughter of Louis and Malinda (nee Ziegler) Klenke. On Sunday, February 21, 1960, she married Leo F. Rode at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Edwardsville, Illinois, who survives. She was a member of Grantfork United Church of Christ; Grantfork UCC Women\u0027s Guild; Hitz Memorial Home Auxiliary. Darlene was born in Hamel Township and attended Quercus Grove and Columbia Schools. She had worked at a grocery store in Hamel, IL. After her marriage she lived in Hamel and in 1962, she and her husband moved to a farm east of Grantfork, IL. As a farm wife and mother, she helped with the milking, drove tractors and the combine, and enjoyed gardening. Mrs. Rode was a member of the Grantfork United Church of Christ and she was also a member of the Madison County Farm Bureau. She taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and served on the Church Council. She served on the Hitz Memorial Home Auxiliary Board for many years. She enjoys playing the accordion at Hitz Memorial Home, retiring at that at age 80 years old. Survivors include: Husband - Leo F. Rode, Pocahontas, IL Son - Rick L. Pearson, 59, of Pocahontas, IL, passed away on Thursday, November 23, 2023, at her home, surrounded by her family. She was born on March 27, 1964, in Highland, IL, to Michael and Linda (nee Langel) Haas. In July of 2005, Lori married Frank Pearson in Pocahontas, IL. Lori has lived in Pocahontas her whole life and attended the Bond County School District. She enjoyed the outdoors, loving to garden and mow her grass. Watching TV and movies, particularly romance and scary ones, was one of her favorite past times. She loved to go fishing on the pond at her home or in the Pocahontas city lakes that bordered her property. She was an excellent cook and loved to bake; always feeding anyone who came to her home. Lori had a happy-go-lucky personality, and she could talk to anyone; she never met a stranger. A kind loving, and caring woman, Lori will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She was preceded in death by her father, Michael Haas; son, Eric Haas; and brother, Michael Haas Jr. Lori is survived by her husband of 18 years, Frank Pearson; mother, Linda Haas; son, Jeremy Lappe; brother, Chris (Kim) Haas; nephew, Gabriel Haas; and niece, Lexi Haas. "Vernon L. Steiner, age 93 of Pocahontas, IL, died Sunday, July 23, 2023, at Alhambra Rehab \u0026amp; Health Care, Alhambra, IL. He was born on Sunday, July 20, 1930, in Grantfork, IL, the son of Leo and Aline (nee Niggli) Steiner. On Sunday, November 20, 1955, he married Lois L. (nee Gause) Steiner at E \u0026amp; R Church, Grantfork, Illinois, who passed away on Friday, April 11, 2014. He was a member of Grantfork United Church of Christ, Vernon served in various ministries at the church including Church Choir, Adams \u0026amp; Eves, Men\u0027s Fellowship and Church Council; he also served as Trustee for Leef Township for many years. . Vernon Steiner was born and raised on the family's dairy farm east of Grantfork, in Madison County. He attended Fairview Country School until he graduated from eighth grade. He then worked exclusively on the farm until shortly after his marriage. Vernon and his bride resided on the 160 acres he bought from his father where he built a thriving dairy farm just two miles north of Leo Steiner's homestead. In 1982, the cattle were sold and replaced for a short time with beef cattle. He continued grain farming up to the time of his death. From 1986 until 2000 he worked for the Dairy Herd Improvement Association as a milk tester. Vernon and Lois enjoyed card playing with friends, local dances and a trip to Alaska. He enjoyed the local and state fairs and after his wife died, he traveled to New York City in 2014, to Alaska in 2016, and Miami in 2019. Vernon\u0027s hobbies included collecting \u0026quot;bitters\u0026quot; bottles, wine making, playing cards with anyone who'd sit at his table and golfing. Survivors include: Daughter - Lynda M. "Steve" Woolen Sr. , 68, of Pocahontas, IL, passed away on Monday, August 7, 2023, in Staunton, IL. He was born on January 28, 1955, in East St. Louis, IL, to Elmer and Virginia (nee Phipps) Woolen. Steve has lived in Pocahontas since 1996, moving from Granite City, IL. He grew up in the East St. Louis and St. Clair Farms area. In 1977, he began working for Chrysler in Fenton, MO, on the assembly line until his retirement in 2007. Accompanying his time at Chrysler, Steve belonged to the UAW Local 110. After retiring, Steve traveled around transporting campers with his wife and sons. Steve greatly enjoyed camping, especially around Carlyle Lake and in Litchfield, IL. He had a passion for watching movies, loving the old classics, war films, and anything with Clint Eastwood. Steve also liked watching classic TV shows and Chicago Cubs games. He loved his Coca Cola, had a cool collection of hats, and Limited/Special Edition cans/bottles of Busch, Budweiser, and Jack Daniels. To this day, Steve still owned the first vehicle he ordered from Chrysler, which was a 96' Dodge 1500 he called "Old Blue". Steve liked spending time with his family and friends, often going out for dinner at Texas Roadhouse. He helped a lot of people, always spoke his mind, and was accepting of everyone. Above all else, Steve loved his family more than anything. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lee Ann (nee Briley) Woolen; son, Eric Woolen; parents, Elmer and Virginia Woolen; sister, Debra Tarrant. Steve is survived by his sons, Steven E. "Steve" (Stacy) Woolen Jr. , Donald "Donnie" (significant other Theresa K. Madewell) Woolen; grandsons, Dylan Woolen, Justin Woolen, Jesse Woolen, Ryan Woolen; great grandson, Jaxston Woolen; siblings, Oliver Woolen, Albert (Nancy) Woolen, Virginia Woolen; brother-in-law, Tommy Tarrant; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends. Kuehn, 96, of Pocahontas, IL, passed away on Sunday, July 9, 2023, in Alhambra, IL. She was born on November 28, 1926, in Belleville, IL, to Cornelius and Frieda (nee Hamann) Miles. On April 18, 1945, Helen married her late husband, William A. "Billy" Kuehn at St. Peters Cathedral in Belleville, IL. Helen has lived in Pocahontas for 50 years. She moved with her family from Valley Station near Fort Knox, KY, in 1973. A faithful woman, Helen was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Pocahontas. She had various hobbies including cooking, crocheting, and traveling. Her and Billy had been to Europe, the Caribbean, and various places across the United States, but her favorite trips were always the cruises they went on. Being a huge Cardinals fan, Helen never missed a game whether in person or watching from home. Her greatest joy in life was taking care of her loved ones. Helen always had a smile on her face. She loved visiting with her family and attending family functions and holidays. An outgoing woman, Helen liked talking to people and never met a stranger. She was funny, loving, stubborn at times, but most of all kind. An amazing mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Helen will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, William A. "Billy" Kuehn; parents, Cornelius and Frieda Miles; daughter, Barbara Ann (Barry) Schaffner; son, Randy L. Kuehn; and sister, Betty (Ted) Rasmussen. Helen is survived by her son, David Kuehn, Belleville, IL; grandson, Michael L. Myrna LaFay (Woosley) Bruno, 83, of Fort Myers, FL; formerly of Pocahontas, IL, passed away on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, after a short stay in hospice care following a battle with lung cancer. Myrna was born in East St. Louis, IL, on March 12, 1940, to Charles and Cora Woosley. She married the love of her life, Jim Bruno, on June 9 , 1956. Myrna was the youngest of 10 children. She loved spending time with and taking care of her family and was very giving to everyone she knew. She always worked very hard and finally retired at the age of 77. Myrna was crowned queen at Pocahontas High School in 1954. She got her first job at a bank in Baltimore, MD, when she was 16. In addition to banking, she was a beautician, worked in a fur factory, and worked in many retail positions. She enjoyed cooking for her family and others, was a talented decorator, and loved renovating fixer upper homes. She was a treasured wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents; 9 siblings; and several other family members. Myrna is survived by her husband of almost 67 years, James John Bruno; children, Larry (Dawn) Bruno, William (Jan) Bruno, Julie (Michael) Lohman, and Trina (Michael) Walsh; grandchildren, Jared (Mollie) Bruno, Sarah Bruno, David (Nikki) Bruno, Kathryn (Jordan) Strickland, Alicia (Spencer) Williams, Kristen (Andrew) Rincker, Seth Lohman, Brooke Walsh, Lindsey Walsh; great-grandchildren, Levi Bruno, Charlotte (Charley) Williams, Arin Williams, Isaiah Rincker, Aurora (Rory) Bruno, and soon to be Stryker Strickland.
