Kelly took on her career as she did her life, with a gentle heart, caring nature, and a fervent passion.Kelly loved her family & friends, cooking and music. You could often find her happily singing along to her favorite song while creating from scratch the most delicious meal for her loved ones. Her greatest pride and joy was her son, in which she provided a home and life filled with a great love. Heaven gained an angel, and she is dearly missed. Lilly Vargas Gonzalez December 3, 1932-February 23, 2024 Lilly Vargas Gonzalez, 91, was born on December 3, 1932 to Damacio and Maria Vargas Mendoza in Nueces county. She left this earth to be with her Lord and Savior on February 23, 2024. She had the great fortune of leaving this life surrounded by prayers and peace. Lilly worked as a nurse at Driscoll Children’s hospital when it opened in 1953 and was later a nurse at Spohn Memorial Hospital and P&S She was a very sharp witted and sensible woman. She was strong in character and morals. Above all, Lilly was a woman who loved God and her family. She was an avid member of Southcrest Baptist Church for over 50 years. She prayed fervently for her loved ones. She loved keeping healthy and would walk the track at Ray High School for 20 years. She later found herself a member of the YWCA, where she would participate in water aerobics every week for over 20 years . Lilly was a social person and loved people. One could be intrigued by her life stories for hours. In every aspect of her life, she would make long lasting friendships. She was so proud of her family and all that they accomplished. She loved hosting Sunday family meals as well as celebrations for holidays. To know her was to love her. She was a woman of great strength and fortitude. She overcame so many adversities and was one of the most positive people you could ever meet. She was also one of the richest people you could ever meet. She was rich in the love she had for God and the love she gave and received from her family and friends. She called her home her palace and would invite all to break bread at her table. She was the epitome of what it means to be the hands and feet of Christ. If one could sum up her legacy, it would to be love one another as Christ loves us and to have fun while doing it. She had a wonderful time on this earth but always knew she would be going home to rest with God and would have it no other way. It is with heavy hearts, we bid farewell to our father, Remigio Valdez Herrera SR. He went to meet our heavenly father on February 25, 2024 in Corpus Christi surrounded by family.He was born on September 15, 1936, in Clareville, Texas, and he was preceded in death by his parents, Juan and Inez Herrera, daughter Anita Martinez (Herrera), and his great granddaughter Malorie Marie Rodriguez. Remigio V. Herrera was a man of remarkable work ethic. He was a hard working Truck Driver and Migrant Worker. He held high expectations for all of his children. To do your best in whatever you do… it did not matter what that was. He instilled in his family a sense of responsibility and a great work ethic. He was someone you could count on whether family or friend and had great generosity. In retirement, he focused on his wife and family. He was passionate about the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Longhorns, boxing (especially Mexican fighters like Canelo Alvarez). He enjoyed nothing more than gathering with his family to watch the games or discuss the latest boxing matches, his enthusiasm was contagious to all around him.He had unwavering love for his family and had a great sense of humor. He always used his humor to bring smiles to everyone he encountered. He cherished his role as a husband, father, and grandfather, finding his greatest happiness in the company of his loved ones.As passionate as he was about his teams, nothing compared to his devotion to family, especially his dedication to his wife, Maria Garza Herrera. They were married 69.5 years. Their family included 10 children (7 sons and 3 daughters) and his legacy lives on with their grand, great-grand, and great-great grandchildren. George Daniel Donovan, 89, of Corpus Christi, Texas, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2024, at his home, surrounded by the love of his family, and loving and attentive caregivers. Dan was born in Newark, NJ on September 3, 1934, to the late Helen and George Donovan. After graduating from Seton Hall University, he entered the priesthood and served the Catholic Church for more than 15 years. He decided to leave the Church and began a career in Marketing Sales in Manhattan where he met the love of his life, Kay Marie Ledbetter. The couple moved back to Kay’s hometown of Corpus Christi in 1985 and built a wonderful life there along with their beloved son, Lee. He will always be remembered for his larger-than-life personality and his witty jokes. He made people laugh anywhere and everywhere he went – he never met a stranger. Slightly stubborn and always friendly, he was right at home in Texas, despite being a yankee. Even though he was plagued by congestive heart failure and dementia in his latter years, his pride and love for his family never lessened. He brought up his pride in his son, Lee and his beloved granddaughter, Delaney, to everyone he met. Dan was reunited in Heaven with his beloved wife and partner of 48 years, Kay Marie Donovan; his parents, George and Helen Donovan; and his brother Richard Donovan. He is survived by his son, Lee Donovan, and wife Maggie, of Houston, Texas, his granddaughter Delaney, as well as nieces and nephews, cousins, and dear friends. A celebration of Dan’s life will be held Friday, March 1st, at 12 pm at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel, 4357 Ocean Drive, Corpus Christi, Texas 78412. James A. “Buddy” Thomas, Jr, passed away 22 February 2024, at the age of 81. He was born in Eustis, Florida, was a Vietnam veteran and worked at the Corpus Christi Army Depot (CCAD) from 1968 until retirement in 2002 as a Senior Crash Investigator. He was very active in the former Caribbean Baptist Church in Flour Bluff, where he served as a Deacon. James is survived by his wife of almost 59 years, Peggy Thomas of Flour Bluff; daughter, Becky Thomas of Calallen; brother, Charles Thomas, sisters, Anne Bower and Linda Rowe all of Florida; brothers- and sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews. Rebecca Ninfa Oliva, age 99, passed away peacefully at her home to be with her heavenly Father on February 23, 2024. She was born on November 10, 1924 to Pedro Delgadillo and Maria Reyna in Robstown, Texas. She was raised in Corpus Christi, Texas and lived there all of her life. Rebecca married her husband, Frank Oliva on October 13, 1947. They were married for 47 years until his death on January 23, 1993. Rebecca was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was a faithful servant of the Lord, Jesus Christ, her love for Him had no limits. Her faith and devotion to the Lord led her to pray every single morning and night without fail. After her prayers she would worship Him with church hymns. Tithing was also important to her so much so that she continued to give even when she could no longer attend church. Her giving spirit didn’t end there, she gave faithfully to the March of Dimes, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Feed the Children, and the Food Bank. Rebecca’s kindness knew no boundaries to those who needed a place to stay, needed financial support, and spiritual or emotional guidance. She will be remembered for her love for her children, her dedication to her family, her giving spirit, and her kindness. Rebecca is preceded in death by her husband, Frank Oliva, Sr., and her eldest son Frank Oliva, Jr., her brothers, Henry Delgadillo, Pedro Delgadillo, Robert Delgadillo, Max Delgadillo, and sisters, Mary Arias, and Evangeline Delgadillo. Rebecca is survived by her children Eddie Oliva (Susan), Sylvia Rangel, Diane Hernandez (Humberto), Gary Oliva (Mary), Terri Mendez (Peter), Nancy Rosales, and Debra Oliva-Perez (Reggie); as well as 16 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren. We would like to give a special thanks to our sister Sylvia for her love and devotion in providing the best care for our mother.
