Daniel Lee Sorrels, 78, of Salem, passed away unexpectedly at 12:47P M , Thursday, October 5, 2023, at Robley Rex VA Medical Center Daniel was born September 2, 1945, in Lyon Station, Kentucky The son of Daniel and Suzanne Rust Sorrels Daniel graduated from Pekin High School and was a retired Veteran, brick mason and farmer He was a longtime member of Old Blue River Christian Church Daniel loved gardening, mushroom hunting, rock fishing and spending time with his family He will be deeply missed by those that know him Survivors include his children: Richard (Missy) of Waverly, Patrick (Robin) Chastain of Scottsburg, Janis (Matt) Kidd, Jonathan (Sarah), Dwight (Larissa), Jenetta (Patrick) Underwood and Melinda of Salem Siblings: Betty (Wayne) Pluris of Columbus, Susan McMartin, Calvin (Tina) Sorrels, both of Salem, Lynn Bickel of Edinburg and many grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and several great-nieces and nephews He was preceded in death by his parents, his sons, Brian Daniel and Daniel gene His brothers Dwight Sorrels, Jerome Sorrels, James Sorrels, Allen Ray Sorrels and a sister Beverly Goodson-Ford Along with one granddaughter Alyssa Chastain In keeping with the family's wishes, cremation will take place with a Memorial Fish Fry on October 28, 2023 Details on time and place will be announced at a later date Memorial contributions may be made to The Disabled Veterans Transform Veteran Lives - DAV (Disabled American Veterans) To to the family or in memory of Daniel Lee Sorrels, please

Charles M. "Mike" Basil, age 70 of Salem, Indiana died peacefully in the early morning hours of December 7, 2023 at Norton Brownsboro Hospital surrounded by his wife and family. He was born December 3, 1953, in Glasgow, Kentucky to Carroll W. Basil and Maxine Ann Basil. On August 30, 2003, Mike married Carol Wilson, who survives. Mike was a graduate of Clarksville High School. He retired from Indiana Southern Railroad. He was a lover of all sports. From his years participating in high school sports, to watching his favorite teams play, to coaching local high school sports. He was an official IHSAA referee for 5 sports. Mike enjoyed time on the farm with his wife taking care of their animals and raising beef cattle. He occasionally enjoyed a cigar and glass of bourbon. He is survived by his loving wife, Carol Wilson; his 3 children, Allison O'Grady (Tom), of Louisville, Kentucky, Kim Powell (Ben), of Knoxville, Tennessee and Laura Basham (Christopher), of Otisco, Indiana; sister, Janice Basil, two brothers, Robert Basil and Tommy Basil, all of Clarksville, Indiana; 9 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jeff Basil. Visitation will be December 10, 2023, from 1 to 4 pm Sunday at Dawalt Funeral Home, followed by a Celebration of Life at 4 pm. 83, of Salem, Indiana, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2023 at Baptist Hospital East. Elmer Elzie Gore, Jr. was born on August 6, 1940 in Crestwood, Kentucky to Elnora (Thompson-Evans) and Elmer Gore, Sr. He graduated from Ahrens High School and later completed his education in real estate at Indiana University Southeast. He married the love of his life, Donna Joy (Hendricks), on July 27, 1968. Elmer's life unfolded as a testament to his remarkable skills as a self-employed carpenter. For over 45 years, he meticulously crafted dreams into reality through his business, Gore Construction. Even in retirement, his hands continued to create, as he owned and operated Gore Insulation and contracted with Frye Plumbing. A true master of his craft, Elmer was a highly respected professional contractor. Beyond his professional endeavors, Elmer devoted over two and a half decades serving as a Trustee and Elder in his church. His heart overflowed with the spirit of a servant, spending countless hours supporting others and tending to the needs of his family and community. A storyteller at heart, Elmer was known for his humor and the wealth of stories he shared. Above all, his love for the Lord radiated in every aspect of his life. As a devoted husband and father, Elmer leaves behind a legacy of unwavering love and kindness. Elmer is survived by his wife, Donna Joy (Hendricks); his children Mike Gore (Sherry); Dawn Meador (Dan); and Carl Gore (Loretta); his grandchildren, Logan Gore (Chloe), Heather Churchman (Tyler), Aly Meador, and Alex Meador; with his first great-grandson, Karson, due in January; as well as siblings, Carol Bothwell and Barbara Koontz. He was predeceased by his brother, David Gore; half-sister, Mona Elizabeth Gore Tuton; mother, Elnora Evans; father Elmer Gore, Sr. ; and step-father William Evans. Funeral services will be held at 6:00pm on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at Garr Funeral Home in Sellersburg. Friends and family are invited to visitation from 2:00pm until 6:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Norton Children's Hospital in Elmer Elzie Gore's memory. This is also in memorial of his half-sister Mona, who received amazing care and medical treatment at Norton's throughout her childhood. The family is profoundly grateful to Baptist Hospital East's Palliative Care staff for their unwavering compassion during Elmer's final moments. Gale Newton "Newt" Bush, age 89, passed away Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at Meadowview Health and Rehab Center. Newt was born August 3, 1934 in Pekin, Indiana. The son of Oliver and Jessie Lovell Bush. Newt was a former member of the Pekin Lions Club, Pekin Saddle Club, Dairymen Incorporated, and Salem Band Parents. He was a member of the Martinsburg Church of Christ. Newt was a retired mail carrier for the United States Postal Services after 42 years of service. He loved driving the school bus for both Salem and East Washington Schools. He also farmed and was a real estate agent. Newt loved his family, holiday gatherings which was a constant tradition, and watching the flora and the fauna. Newt is survived by his wife of 40 years, Angela Owens Bush. They were married on June 4, 1983. He is also survived by his son: Benie Bush (Lisa) of Salem, a step son: Steve Erwin (Joni) of Salem, three daughters: Glenda Storey (Richard) of New Salisbury, Jane Remily (Richard) of Seale, Alabama, Marcie Lear (Don) of Corydon, a step daughter Rebel McFetridge (Mike) of Bealton, Virginia. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Justin Bush (Rachel) of Salem, Jesse Bush of Salem, Jessica Huett (Brett) of Corydon, Travis Robinson (Cara) of Lanesville, Dylan Lawson of Louisville and Olivia Lawson of Louisville and step grandchildren: Leslie Dover of Louisville, Gunner Erwin of Nashville, Tennessee, Andrea Erwin of Louisville, Emily McFetridge of Bealton, Virginia and Ryan McFetridge of Bealton, Virginia. Also, his great grandchildren: Stetson and Beckham Bush, Haley, Isabella and Cole Huett, Callen and Riggs Robinson and his step great grandchildren: Houston and Wrenley Dover and Marilyn Jane Erwin. Newt is preceded in death by his parents, his stepson Robin Erwin, four brothers: Bob Bush, Bernard Bush, Dave Bush and John Bush. He is also preceded by his sisters: Helen Crockett, Nancy Collins and Polly McKinley. A special thanks to caregivers, Eugene Hughes, Marsha Benson and Monica Robinson. Eugene Curtsinger, age 83, passed away Sunday, October 29, 2023 at St. Vincent Salem Hospital. Mr. Curtsinger was born August 23, 1940 in Washington County, Kentucky. The son of Ruel Curtsinger and Lilly Hood Curtsinger. Mr. Curtsinger is a United States Army Veteran. He retired from Smith Cabinet and worked at the Powder Plant in Charlestown. He was a farmer, enjoyed fishing, working on cars and hunting. Mr. Curtsinger is survived by two sons, Gary L. Wilcutt of Vallonia, and Bob "G" Wilcutt of Salem, and two daughters, Patsy A. Hamilton (Chuck) of Brownstown, and Carol L. Cox (Porter) of Salem. He is also survived by a brother, Ruel Curtsinger Jr. (Dorothy) of Mt. Washington, Kentucky, his sister, Betty Sue Scott (Larry) of Willisburg, Kentucky. He is also survived by six grandchildren, and one great grandchild, Ashlynn Pierce. And his dogs Coco and Lucky. Eugene is preceded in death by his wife Audry Evans Curtsinger. They were married on December 31, 1966. Also, by his parents, his brothers, Billy Curtsinger, Clyde Curtsinger, and William Lee Curtsinger and his sisters, Marie Mullins, Anna Ruth Curtsinger, Peggy Thompson and Christine Curtsinger. He is also preceded in death by one granddaughter, Jennifer L. Hacker. Services will be held on Monday, November 6, 2023 at 1:00P. M. , at Weathers Funeral Home. Visitation will be at 11:00A.
