BOSCOBEL - Daniel Scott Sanger passed away on Monday, October 2,2023. Dan was a kind, caring man who would provide help to anyone who asked and sometimes to those who didn’t! Dan was born on April 14, 1954, the son of Maynard and Ada (Griswold) Sanger. He was big brother to Richard "Ted" and Lori. He graduated from Lancaster High School class of 1972. Dan held several jobs: Bausch's Car Wash, Roger's Bar, and Fireball Lanes until he was hired by WE Energies. Dan and Nancy met in 1987 at Fireball Lanes. While dating, they both became certified EMTs and served the Lancaster area as volunteers on the Lancaster Rescue Squad. In August of 1992 while visiting friends in Arizona, they drove to Las Vegas and were married. In 1995, they were blessed with their son Lucas. The family moved to Boscobel in the Spring of 2000. Due to his health issues, Dan had to retire from WE Energies. Despite this, he kept busy being Mr. Fix-it for family and friends, and he volunteered many hours at the Paul Brandt School Forest. Dan and Nancy enjoyed the years they spent camping in Bagley Wisconsin. They also enjoyed winters South in their RV. Dan’s breathing continued to worsen, and he began to need assistance with many daily activities. Despite his significant poor breathing affecting everything he did or wanted to do, he never complained, and he never lost patience or showed anger. Dan lived by the saying: "Every day is a good day, some are just better than others. " Dan is survived by his wife Nancy (Carroll), son Lucas (Lauren), his brother Richard "Ted", sister Lori (Larry) Jerrett, members of the Carroll family and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents: Maynard and Ada, Nancy’s parents: Roger and Mary Ann (Bublitz) Carroll, and a niece Sarah Pulvermacher. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2023, where friends may share a memory from 9:00 a. m. until 12:00 Noon at Martin Schwartz Funeral Homes & Crematory in Lancaster. A private family burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Daniel S. Sanger memorial has been established.

CASSVILLE – Eugene L. "Gene" Willkomm, age 80, of Cassville, passed away in the loving arms of Darlene, his wife of 58 years, on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster. He was born on December 8, 1942, in Prairie du Chien, the son of Lawrence and Josephine (Kirschbaum) Willkomm. Gene graduated Cassville High School in 1960 and served in the United States Army. On March 20, 1965, Gene married Darlene R. Cadwell at St. Charles Catholic Church in Cassville. He attended Barber School and became a barber. Gene always told his children that the Beatles ruined his barber career, so he took employment at John Deere Dubuque Tractor Works, where he retired after thirty years. He was a member of the Mumm-Welsh American Legion Post No. 352 of Cassville. Gene was an avid outdoorsman and considered the woods his church; it was in a tree stand where he prayed and often to his dearly missed son-in-law, George. Gene will be remembered as a trophy buck hunter and would talk endlessly with anybody anywhere that had the same fever. Driving home from hunting, he would practice his favorite love songs and melt hearts singing them later at family gatherings. Parkinson’s robbed Gene of all his favorite hobbies, except dancing. Darlene was able to hold him up long enough to dance until his time on earth ran short. Gene so loved his children, grandsons, and new great-grandson. He fought a hard battle to stay, but his body couldn’t keep up. Gene will be forever missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Survivors include his loving wife, Darlene; son, Eric (Stacey); daughter, Angela (Bob Smith) Pebworth; grandsons, Chase (Josie Filipiak) Pebworth, Aidan (friend, Amber) and Cooper (friend, Alice) Willkomm; great-grandson, Mac Aubrey Pebworth; his sister, Carol Wiest; his brother, Larry (Barb) Willkomm; in-laws: Don (Linda) Montanye and Jim (Charlene) Cadwell; step-father-in-law, John Schnorrenberg; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by brothers-in-law, Dick Blodgett and Eugene Wiest; his sister, JoAnn Blodgett; his mother-in-law, Rose Schnorrenberg and father-in-law, Junior Cadwell; and his beloved nephew, Scott Cadwell. In keeping with Gene’s wishes, there will be no funeral services. Graveside services with military honors accorded by the Mumm-Welsh American Legion Post No. 352 of Cassville will be held on Friday, December 15, 2023, at 11:00 a. m. at St. Charles Catholic Cemetery in Cassville with Pastor Mark Hoehne officiating. PRAIRIE DU CHIEN - Robert P. "Bob" Morgan, age 71, passed away on December 2, 2023, peacefully in his sleep. He was born on June 27, 1952; the son of Ralph and Mary Lou (Moris) Morgan. Robert graduated from West Grant High School in 1970 and enlisted in the United States Navy and was activated during the Vietnam War. He was united in marriage to Tracy (Jensen) Johnson in 1981 and later to Connie (Toberman) Morgan in 2009. Robert was a life long trucker, retiring in June 2023, and put millions of miles on his semi, traveling all over the United States. Along with many stories, he experienced the beauty of our country, a country he was so proud of. He had many life long friends and was the best story teller. Robert loved the Wisconsin Badgers, Green Bay Packers, and watching his grandson, Finn, play football! He also was an avid outdoorsman, loved fishing the Mississippi and hunting with his kids, both he got to do in the last month. Above all, Roberts entire life revolved around his children and grandchildren, who he loved more than anything in the world. He will be remembered for his generous heart, his ability to bring laughter to a room, and his dad hugs with an "I love you" every time! He is survived by his wife Connie; Robert’s children, daughter-in-laws and grandchildren: Jesse (Ashley) Morgan and their two children: Finn and Maci, and Josiah (Amy) Borden and their daughter Ella; step-children: Cory Schurz, his children: Cody, Amy, and Jacob; Chris (Dawn) French, their children Brennan and Brooklyn, and Ashley (Jeremy) Gulick, their children Madelyn and Odin; his first wife Tracy Johnson; his loving brothers and sisters: Barbara Meng, Linda (Butch) Quick, Mary Redman, Dorothy (Dave) Holtz, Donna (Mike) McKinney, Betty (Jon) Cooley, Kathy (Ron) Knapp, Patrick Morgan, Michael (Cindy) Morgan, Rita Morgan, Bill (Nancy) Morgan, and Christy (Brian) Krause; sisters-in-law: Jeanne Morgan and Diane Morgan; brother-in-law, Terry Laufenberg; and many nieces and nephews. Beverly Hartnett

Beverly "Bev" J. Hartnett, age 89, passed away peacefully at Orchard Manor on November 29, 2023, after spending her final days surrounded by family — including her husband for a (remarkable!) 70 years, Bernard "Buzz" Hartnett. Bev was born in Liberty Township on August 2, 1934, the daughter of George & Rowena (Bitney) Davies. As a teen, she met a handsome young farmer named Buzz at a dance in Rockville. That chance encounter led to a marriage that lasted for the better part of a century, as the two wed on August 21, 1953. Buzz and Bev had two children, Bruce and Becky. Bev embodied work ethic through her commitment to being a farmer’s wife, homemaker, and mother. She spent many afternoons in the stands at rodeos, cheering on her son, Bruce, including when he made it to nationals out West. Bev always loved a long drive in the country to find deer, no matter the season. Between drives she talked to her daughter, Becky, almost every day. On top of her roles at home, Bev was elected Grant County Treasurer and served in that role for many years. She also volunteered at the Grant County Fair (where she was always ready to buy ride tickets for her grandchildren) and worked at the Wisconsin Tourism Center outside of Dubuque, IA. She probably never would have admitted it, but Bev was a "trendsetter. " She was a career woman who also raised a family in a time in which that was rare. Beverly is survived by four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, Michelle (Jake), Brienna, and Wren Hipenbecker of Fennimore; Miranda (Eric), Lydia, and Grace Fuerstenberg of Bloomington; Brandon (Carrie), Quinn, and Kennedy Hartnett of Platteville; and Casey (Emilie), Maxwell, and Rebecca Schwab of Evanston, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents, George & Rowena (Bitney) Davies; her sister, Betty (Davies) Trollop; her brothers, Ralph "Bud" (Mary) Davies and Daniel "Danny" (Sandra) Davies; her children, Bruce Hartnett and Rebecca "Becky" (Hartnett) Schwab; and her granddaughter, Carrie Hartnett. James Stimart

James Raymond "Buck Jim" Stimart, age 86, passed away at his home peacefully on Friday, November 24, 2023. He was born on March 20, 1937, on a farm in Bloomington Township, the son of Felix "Speed" and Mary (Broihahn) Stimart. When he was young, the family moved to Beetown where Jim attended elementary school. It was there that Jim began to learn the skills of hunting, fishing, and hard work. Later the family moved to Lancaster where Jim graduated from high school in 1956. After graduation, Jim worked for Murray Electric and the Dubuque Pack. On October 24, 1959, he was united in marriage to Janice M. Kirschbaum. He enlisted in the United States Army serving stateside. Jim and Janice purchased their small farm in Liberty Ridge Township, where they continued to raise their four children: Scott, Jay, Pam, and Jill. Jim was employed at John Deere Dubuque Tractor works in the foundry and worked his way up to a machinist position on second shift, all while maintaining the little farm, hunting with his faithful dog, Whitey, trapping and fishing every spare moment he could. In 1978, Jim moved to Bagley. He continued to work at John Deere until his retirement at the age of 54, enjoying over 30 years of retirement living in that sportsman’s paradise doing what he loved most. Jim was active in the Bagley community and proud to serve as a Bagley Volunteer Fireman. Jim married Dorothy Haberichter on June 27, 1997, spending the next 26 years together. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; his children: Scott (Chyme) Stimart, Jay Stimart, Pam LaFave, and Jill (Tim Sorensen) Stimart; his stepchildren: Troy (Brenda) Haberichter, Chris (Shawn) Raisbeck, Todd (Deanna) Haberichter; his brother, Gene (Linda) Stimart; a step-sister, Caroline Powers; sisters-in-law, Barbara (Tom) Sims, Sharon Kumnick; brother-in-law, Bobby Kumnick; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and special family members, Judy Medley and Perry Oats. In addition to his parents, Felix and Mary Stimart, Jim was preceded in death by his former wife, Janice Stimart, his stepmother, Adele Stimart and brother-in-law, John Kumnick. Platteville, WisconsinRodney F. VanNatta, 74, of Platteville, Wisconsin, passed away Friday, November 17, 2023, following many health issues including pancreatic cancer. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p. m. Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at Casey-McNett Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Cuba City, with Rev. David Flanagan officiating. Visitation will follow from 3-7:00 p. m. at the funeral home. Rodney was born on May 5, 1949 in Cuba City, Wisconsin, the son of Francis and Dorothy (Burbach) VanNatta. He graduated from Cuba City High School, served two years in the United States Army and attended La Crosse Technical College where he earned his welding degree. Rodney was united in marriage to Julie VanNatta on May 12, 1973 at St. Mary's Church, Platteville, Wisconsin. Rodney worked as a welder for 33 years. He loved to play cards, ride bulls, and play football. He took great pride in his yard and new garage. Rodney loved spending time with his grandchildren. Rodney is survived by his wife, Julie VanNatta, Cuba City; two sons, LeRoy (Amanda) VanNatta, Painted Post, NY, and Timothy (Mandy) VanNatta, Platteville, WI; four grandchildren, Emma, Izabelle, Asher and Jace; four brothers, Jerry VanNatta, Darryl (Tina) VanNatta, Danny (Judy) VanNatta and Robert VanNatta; five sisters, Elizabeth (Mike) Walters, Susan (Steve) Curtis, Sally (Randy) Ladd, Patricia (Donald) Steinbech and Pamela (Scott) LaBarge; and his aunt, Barbara Loeffelholz. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Cheryl Kinnicker; his grandparents, Hurbert and Cecilia Burbach and Leroy and Florance VanNatta; his father-in-law, Verlin VanNatta; a sister-in-law, LuAnn VanNatta; and many aunts and uncles. Lois Vorwald

LANCASTER - Lois Mae (Kirschbaum) Vorwald, age 95, of Lancaster, was born on October 16, 1928, the fifth child of Gerhardt J. and Dolly Ruth (Cadwell) Kirschbaum in rural Cassville, Wis. She peacefully passed away on November 1, 2023, lovingly surrounded by her family while receiving care from St. Croix Hospice and caregivers at Morningside Assisted Living in Lancaster, Wis. Lois attended Cassville schools, and her close-knit family moved often and lived on various farms in the area. She graduated from Cassville High School in 1948. Upon her graduation, at the age of 17, she bravely headed to Chicago on the train after accepting a secretary position at the Technical Institute of Independent Biscuit Manufacturers. Lois loved the big city life but after 18 months, she returned to her small-town roots. She worked 3 years as the society editor for the Grant County Independent and then worked for the Federal Land Bank. Lois loved to attend dances and she married one of her favorite dance partners, Virgil Vorwald on May 31, 1952. They farmed for 38 years on the Vorwald family farm near Bloomington and raised three children. Once the children were older, Lois returned to work in Lancaster as the Deputy Clerk of Courts at the Grant County Courthouse, then transitioned to her position as bailiff until 2011. She enjoyed working with the jurors and she was well known for bringing her homemade baked goods for the jurors to enjoy. Lois and Virgil retired from the farm in 1990 and moved to Lancaster. They both enjoyed playing bridge, travel to visit family and friends, planting a large vegetable garden, going on annual outings to pick blueberries and apples and cheering for the Badgers. Lois had a passion for baking and cooking and was a gracious hostess as she provided an abundance of food for family and guests. Another favorite interest of hers was attending auctions and estate sales to add to her collections. Her competitive nature made the auctions quite exciting for her! She also volunteered at the hospital gift shop, worked at the gift shop at the Sinsinawa Retreat Center and was on the City of Lancaster Variance Committee for many years. She was recognized and received the Women in History Award for Grant County. In her retirement years she took lessons and became an accomplished china painter and shared many of her lovely plates with friends. Faith and service were important to Lois. She was a member of St. Clement Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of America, and Christian Mothers. She was part of the farm neighborhood Study Club that met for 65 years as these strong women supported each other in their friendships and faith. The hardships of Lois’ early life during the depression and having 3 brothers in the armed services, shaped her to be a resilient, kind and generous woman. She exemplified the kind of goodness that cares for those around her. She had a curiosity and love for learning, was an avid book reader and enjoyed the daily newspaper. She looked forward to endless games of Scrabble with her family and played well into her nineties. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Survivors include her children: Ron (Kris) Vorwald, Mary (Leo) Diehl, and Virginia "Ginny" Vorwald; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Marcia Kirschbaum, Bae Ruth Kirschbaum, Joanne Kirschbaum, and Barb Vorwald; first cousin: Judy (Maynard) Behnke; nieces and nephews, other relatives, friends, and special neighbors: Norbert and Charlene Schildgen. In addition to her parents, Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil; four brothers: La Verne, Walter (Donna Mae), Norman and Raymond Kirschbaum; three sisters: Carol in childhood, Dorothy (Don) Frederick and Florence (Gerald) Schildgen; three brothers-in-law: Robert "Bob", Harry "Bud" (Norma), and Larry (Joan) Vorwald; and a sister-in-law: Helen (Leo) Muench. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at 11:00 a. m. at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster with Father Mark Miller officiating, followed by a luncheon in the church dining hall. Family and friends may call on Saturday from 9:00 a. m. until the time of services at the church. Burial will be in the Dodge Cemetery, Beetown Township. BLOOMINGTON – Thomas James "Tom" Sahr, of Bloomington, passed away on Thursday, November 2, 2023, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison at the age of 80. Tom was born on September 3, 1943, the son of Harlan and Elsie (Hitch) Sahr in Fort Atkinson. He graduated from Fort Atkinson High School in 1961. Tom was united in marriage to Randy Lynn Bullock on February 2, 1964. In 1964, he and Randy started their family; they had two daughters, one in 1964, one in 1966 and a son in 1979. Tom worked in glass repair and always had animals around. He enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family and friends. In 2007, his wife Randy, of 43 years passed away. In 2009, Tom met Christine Jeidy and they became partners in life. Survivors include his life partner, Christine Jeidy; his daughters: Amy (William) Hauk and Virginia (Alan) Kreger; his daughter-in-law, Hilary Sahr; nine grandchildren: Timothy (Staci) Plucinski, Mallory (James) Bohling, Derek Plucinski, Stephanie Kreger, Alex (Jenna) Plucinski, Jordan Kreger, Lukas Kreger, River Sahr, and Rylyn Sahr; many great-grandchildren; his sister, Shirley (William) Baker; sisters-in-law: Bonnie Smith and Becky (Dan) Schultz; other relatives and many friends. STITZER – Dixie L. Riley, age 76, of Stitzer, passed away after a long illness on Monday, October 23, 2023, at Lancaster Health Services in Lancaster surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 25, 1947, in Lancaster, the daughter of Ervin and Wilma (Reynolds) Hutchcroft. Dixie graduated from Lancaster High School in 1965. On July 9, 1966, Dixie was united in marriage to Clement Riley at St. Clement Catholic Church, Lancaster. After their marriage, the couple moved to Texas where Clement was stationed in the military. Upon their return to Grant County, Dixie was employed with Loudspeaker Components, LLC for 20 years and Land’s End for 10 years, until she was injured. Dixie enjoyed fishing, playing horseshoes, croquet, badminton, volleyball, and king and queens co-ed softball. She dearly loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and cooking and baking family meals for the holidays. Survivors include her loving husband of 57 years, Clement; their children: Laurie Sedbrook and Frank (Dawn) Riley; five grandchildren: Joshua (Kate) Sedbrook, Justin Sedbrook, Ryan (Mary) Sedbrook, Leah (Alex) Chowanec and Hannah (Nick) Seiler; seven great-grandchildren; her siblings: Patty (John) Metcalf, Ervin Hutchcroft, Angela Arttus, and Stacey Hutchcroft; her in-laws: Mike Riley, Pat (Rita) Riley, Margaret (Dan) Schult, Bridget (Dan) Bollant, and Dee Riley; other relatives and many friends.
