Hagerstown, MD - Daniel F "Fred" Mitchell, Jr , 91, of Hagerstown, MD passed away on Thursday October 5, 2023, at Creekside Village in Hagerstown, MD He was born on November 3, 1931, in Hagerstown, MD to the late Daniel Frederick, Sr and Marion Elizabeth Kinzer He was a 1949 graduate of Williamsport High School in Williamsport, MD Fred was employed as a Physical Therapy Aide at Western Maryland Hospital Center until his retirement in 1989 He was a veteran of the U S Army Fred was a member of the Clopper-Michael American Legion Post 10 in Boonsboro, MD, Maryland Classified Employee Association, and the Improved Order of Redmen Tribe #84 in Williamsport, MD Fred was a loving and devoted grandfather Whether it was at the Valley Mall, C&O Canal, or the Hagerstown Suns Stadium, he was always showing off his grandchildren to everyone in sight He always had a soda pop and a Tasty Cake on hand to make you smile Enjoying a personalized Martins style birthday cake with the "Happy Birthday Tune" ending in "and many moreee" was a grandfather signature Many great memories consist of going to the park, taking trips to Williamsport, MD, playing cards and dominoes, taking walks at the Valley Mall, attending baseball games, dying Easter eggs, picking grapes off the vine, having lunch at Burger King, enjoying a meal at Cracker Barrel, and enjoying LOTS of ice cream for dessert We will miss his "eee eee eee" hugs and walks out to the car to say goodbye Fred was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years, Margaret Shockley Mitchell in 2011 He is also preceded in death by brothers Orville Edward Mitchell and Paul Ralph Mitchell; sisters Vivian Margretta Lott and Alice Larue Mitchell; stepbrothers Ralph Bovey and Richard Bovey; stepsisters Nancy Banzhoff and Shirley Stotler He is survived by a daughter Elsie Jane Cooley of Hagerstown, MD; sons Daniel Frederick Mitchell, III of Ocean City, MD, Bruce Mitchell of Hagerstown, MD, and Scott Mitchell of Smithsburg, MD; grandchildren Heather Matney, Victoria Vatral, Sarah Scarnato, and Erin Cooley; great grandchildren Thomas Scarnato, Blair Olivia Matney, and Bryce Daniel Matney; numerous nieces and nephews "If we had a nickel, we know what we would do, we'd spend it all for candy, and give it all to you Cause that's how much we love you baby That's how much we love you " Funeral services will be held at the Osborne Funeral Home, P A 425 S Conococheague St Williamsport, MD on Friday October 13, 2023, at 11:00 am with Kevin Smoot officiating The family will greet friends 1 hour prior to the service on Friday from 10:00 - 11:00 am Interment will follow at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Hagerstown, MD Memorial donations may be made to the Epilepsy Foundation at Attn: Donor Services Epilepsy Foundation 3540 Crain Highway Suite 675 Bowie, MD 20716 To to the family or in memory of Daniel F "Fred" Mitchell, Jr , please

Williamsport, MD - David M. Austin, Sr. , 85, of Williamsport, MD passed away on Monday, December 4, 2023, at Seaton Senior Living in Hagerstown, MD. David was born on February 22, 1938, in Boston, Massachusetts to the late Henry Willard and Eva Grace (Nickerson) Austin. He was a 1957 graduate of Los Lunas High School in New Mexico. David was a veteran of the U. S. Navy. He was employed by FEMA working in communications for 35 years until his retirement in January of 1994. David attended St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hagerstown, MD with his wife Rita. He later retired from Fort Detrick in April of 2015. He was a loyal employee and rarely missed work. David enjoyed attending his grandsons' sporting events and loved spending time with his family. He was also an avid Dallas Cowboys and Boston Red Sox fan. He is survived by his wife Rita T. (Moya) Austin of Williamsport, MD whom he married in July of 1962; daughter Yvonne Austin of Williamsport, MD; daughter Cindy Crist and husband Wes of Hagerstown, MD; son David Austin, Jr. and wife Jodi of Williamsport, MD; sister Claire Otero and husband Wilfred of Corrales, NM; grandsons: Kyle Crist and wife Ashley of Delray Beach, FL and Daniel Crist of Falling Waters, WV; great grandson Brooks Crist; several nieces and nephews. Susan Rosalie Higgins, 87, of Williamsport, MD passed away peacefully at her home on November 30, 2023. Born on September 25, 1936, in Mercersburg, PA, Susan was the youngest daughter of the late Clarence Leslie Lowans, and Mary Catherine (Amsley) Lowans. She spent her childhood years in the Mercersburg, PA area, and most of her adult life in Williamsport, MD. Susan was employed in many different jobs throughout her lifetime, including the Rosen's Department Store in downtown Hagerstown, Angstrohm Precision, and the Dressbarn at the Centre in Hagerstown, MD. She worked until the age of 74. Susan was an excellent seamstress, and enjoyed sewing, knitting, and crocheting in her spare time. She loved to cook big holiday meals for her family, and will be remembered for her delicious, buttered turkey and other holiday favorites. She dearly loved her family, especially her wonderful husband Bob. Susan is survived by her sons Jerry Lowans and his wife Sharon of Martinsburg, WV; Douglas Higgins and his wife Kay of Williamsport, MD; daughter Janelle Golden and her husband Brett of Clear Spring, MD; stepson, Robert L. Higgins, Jr. and his wife Lynley of Hagerstown, MD; and stepbrother Charles Mills and his wife Dorcas of Funkstown, MD. She is also survived by many amazing grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Susan was preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert L. Higgins, Sr. , whom she married on March 12th of 1954; a stepson, David M. Higgins II; six sisters and five brothers; a stepbrother James Mills, and a stepsister, Rebecca; her stepmother, Mary Viola (Richardson) Lowans; two daughters-in-law; and a precious granddaughter, Jessica Golden. A private committal service will be held for the immediate family at the Greenlawn Memorial Park in Williamsport, MD with Dr. Ray Robertson officiating. Susan's arrangements have been entrusted to J. Mary Louise Scott Moats was born to the late Edward M. Scott and Zoe E. Scott, on January 9, 1930. She was a lifelong resident of Williamsport, Maryland, until the last years of her life. Mary was the youngest of three sisters, Sarah Scott McElroy and Betty Marie Scott, both who predeceased her. After graduating from Williamsport High School in 1947, Mary went to work at Redland Cushwa Brick, in Williamsport, Maryland. It was at Cushwa Brick that Mary met her husband, Robert (Pete) Paul Moats, who she married on November 24, 1956. Mary retired from Cushwa Brick in 1993, after 46 years of service. Mary and Pete celebrated 61 years of marriage, when Pete went home to be with the Lord, on December 11, 2017. Mary was a lifelong member of Williamsport United Methodist Church. She loved to go fishing with Pete and spent many hours fishing along the Potomac River, known by the locals as the "river bottom". Mary also enjoyed spending time with her family. In her later years she enjoyed spending time with her daughter and her son-in-law, her grandchildren and their families, and Cuddles, the family dog. After Pete's death, Mary went to live in Mount Airy, Maryland, with their daughter, and only child and her husband, Patricia and Gary Frey and their family. Mary is also survived by her grandchildren and their spouses, Garrison Frey and his wife Keirstyn, Brendan Frey and his wife Brittany, Alina Frey and Andrew Frey. Mary also was predeceased by her niece, Linda McElroy Shirley. Mary passed away on November 26, 2023, at the age of 93, peacefully at home with her daughter and son-in-law, and Cuddles. With the compassionate assistance of Bridging Life Hospice Care, she was able to remain at home until the Lord called her to her forever home. A graveside service will be officiated by Dr. Ray Roberson, pastor of Williamsport United Methodist Church at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, 17636 W. Born October 4, 1925, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Mae Elizabeth (Miller) and William Earl Bowers. Lois retired from the City of Hagerstown. She previously worked at Woolworths and as a Crossing Guard at Broadway School. She was a lifelong member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church. She is survived by one daughter, Dixie Wright (husband, Bill); two sons, Dennis Wolford (wife, Pattie) and Darryl Wolford (wife, Nancy); six grandchildren, Matthew Wright, Amy Wright, Matthew Hendley, Eric DeBoni, Aaron DeBoni, and Craig DeBoni; five great grandchildren; nieces, Bonnie Lushbaugh and Jeanie Dunn; nephew, Gary Lushbaugh; and close friends, Mary Bean and Pat Hannum. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Omar Meyers, Jr. on December 18, 2009. Esther was a 1954 graduate of Williamsport High School. She was employed by Dorby's Manufacturing in Hagerstown, MD for many years. She was a camp host volunteer for many years at Rocky Gap State Park. She was a member of Rehoboth United Methodist Church Williamsport, MD. Esther was also a member of Red Feather Council #59 Degree of Pocahontas of the IORM Tribe #84 Williamsport, MD. She enjoyed shopping, cleaning, and spending time with her family. She is survived by her daughter Unita A. Meyers-Murray of Hagerstown, MD; son Harry O. Williamsport, MD - William Schaeffer "Bill" Henneberger, Jr. , 94, of Williamsport, MD, passed away on Friday November 10, 2023, at Doey's House in Hagerstown, MD. Born August 13, 1929, in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late William S. and Marie Shriver Henneberger. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 70 years, Joanne Quigley Henneberger, whom he married on December 20, 1952. Bill was a 1948 graduate of Montclair Academy in Montclair, NJ and later attended Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1952. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving from 1952 to 1954. Bill was employed by the F. W. Woolworth company until his retirement in 1993, serving as a store manager for 38 years. Bill was involved in many organizations and clubs throughout his life, most notably Assistant District Commissioner for Boy Scouts of America in New York in 1962, President of the Frederick Shopping Center Merchant Assoc. from 1970-1978, the Lions Club, Elks Club, and the American Legion in Frederick, MD, member of Bedington United Methodist Church in Martinsburg, WV where he served on several committees, retired member of U. S. Coast Guard Auxiliary where he served as commander, instructor, and boat examiner. He is survived by his sons William S. "Bill" Henneberger, III and his wife Ruth Ann of Hagerstown, MD and Todd R. Henneberger of Frederick, MD; grandchildren Stephanie Henneberger Shapiro and her husband Michael of Middletown, MD and Daniel Henneberger; great grandchildren Louie Shapiro and Harvey Shapiro.
