Daniel J. Ludlow, 85 of Coldwater, entered into eternal rest on Friday, September 8, 2023 after a brief illness. Dan was born in Quincy on June 28, 1938 to parents Burchard and Genevieve Ludlow, who predeceased him along with his brothers Jim and Dave. Those left to cherish Dan's memory are his beloved wife of almost 65 years, Carol, two sons, Brian and his wife Nancy, Mark and his wife Laurie, grandchildren Jim Adams, and Matt and his wife Katie Adams, and great grandchildren Kurtice and Paxton Adams. Dan graduated from Quincy High School in 1956 where he participated in just about everything. It was there that he met his future wife and they attended the Hillsdale County Fair for their first date. He then went on to graduate from Hillsdale College with his teaching degree where he also participated in football and track. Dan spent his entire career as a teacher, coach, and athletic director beginning in Homer for four years and then in Quincy for a total of 40 years. Dan was named Regional Athletic Director of the Year in 1985, was inducted into the Quincy Hall of Fame in 1996 as well as the Michigan Coaches Hall of Fame that same year. In addition to his teaching and coaching career, Dan was a member of the Lions Club of Quincy, Board member of the Branch Intermediate School District, and member of the Presbyterian Church of Coldwater, after many years as a member of the Union Church of Quincy. Dan enjoyed golfing, reading (anything sports related or involving World War II history), running and walking in his later years (until his knees couldn't take the pounding of the pavement anymore), and his regular trips for coffee. Dan and Carol enjoyed wintering in Florida and traveling to Texas. But most of all, Dan loved spending time with family and friends. His knowledge of all things related to Quincy Schools and the greater Quincy area was remarkable and he loved to share that knowledge. A visitation for family and friends will take place on Friday, September 22 from 2:00-4:00 pm and 6:00-8:00 pm at the Eagle Funeral Home-George White Chapel in Quincy. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, September 23 at 11:00 am at the First Presbyterian Church in Coldwater.
