Mrs. Lillie "Gervine" Garrett, age 96, passed away on December 1, 2023. Mrs. Garrett was born in Polk County on February 5, 1927, daughter of the late Virgil Oscar Bollen and the late Ida Mae Bollen. She was a lifelong resident of Rome and Floyd County. Mrs. Garrett was a Christian and active member of Shorter Avenue Baptist Church. She started attending church when she was eight years old and accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and baptized when she was eleven years old. She served as co-director of Young at Heart ministry, Home Bound Ministry, Sunday School Secretary, and faithfully attended regular church services. Mrs. Garrett demonstrated unconditional love for her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She will be remembered for her positive attitude, encouraging words, and always greeting you with a smile and pleasant nature. Mrs. Garrett was a prayer warrior and an inspiration to many people for the Christian life she lived and willingness to share the Gospel and pray for anyone, anytime. Mrs. Garrett was very active for her age and known for always being neat and dressed like she had just come out of a band box. Mrs. Garrett worked as a seamstress for Rome Manufacturing Company, Chapman Garment Company, and King Manufacturing Company most of her working career. At the time of her retirement, she was working for Old Dominion Box Factory. Mrs. Garrett was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Kenneth S. Garrett, whom she married on November 10, 1945. She was also preceded in death by a son, Daniel Rickey Garrett, an infant son, Kenneth Scott Garrett, and four brothers, Robert Bollen, Everett Bollen, Bobby Bollen, and Tommy Bollen. Mrs. Garrett is survived by her son, David R. Garrett (Carol), of Rome; two grandsons, Shane Garrett (Jennifer) and Vince Garrett; her five great grandchildren, Natalie, Grant, Peyton, Alex, and Landon Garrett. Mrs. Garrett is also survived by her three sisters, Neva Jean Kerce, Cornelia "Boots" Smith (Harry), and Betty Ann Busby (Jerry). Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, December 4, 2023, at 12:00pm, at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, Oaknoll Chapel, with Dr. Charles Drummond and Rev. Jeremy Albright officiating and eulogy by David Garrett. Interment will follow at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, Oaknoll Chapel, on Monday, December 4, 2023, from 11:00am until the time of service. Pallbearers are asked to assemble at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, Oaknoll Chapel, on Monday at 11:30 and include, Active: Shane Garrett, Vince Garrett, Eddie Vann, Bobby Davis, Tony Swafford, Tim Agan, and Mike Babb; Honorary: Gary Chittum, Ross Freeman, Gary Cordle, and Lamar Poole.
