Dalarie Howell Daniel, age 60, of Newton passed away Sunday, September 10, 2023 at Carolina Caring in Newton. She was born July 12, 1963 in Caldwell County, N. C. daughter of the late Edward Spencer Howell and Barbara Ann Davenport Howell. Samuel Raymond Hardy, Sr. , 47, of Maiden, passed away on Monday, November 20, 2023 at his residence. He was born August 18, 1977 in Edgecombe County, NC to David Hardy, Sr. and the late Sue Ellen Wheeler Hardy. Sam was a member of Grace Baptist Church and was a tent ministry preacher, civil war reenactor, enjoyed reading and being with his family. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by grandparents, Marland Hardy, Sr. , Bessie Hardy, Clyde Wheeler and Agnes Wheeler; and great-nephew, Niko Hammand. Shelby Dale went home to Jesus on Friday, November 17, 2023. She loved her Lord and Savior. She held an unwavering faith in God. She was a long-time member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Hickory, North Carolina. She retired from G. E. She was very generous with her family and friends. She gave freely with no expectations of getting anything in return. She had a zest for life and encouraged others to do the same. She welcomed the opportunity to meet new people and viewed life as an adventure. Shopping was one of her passions. She loved getting a "good deal. " People would often comment on her elegant wardrobe. Once, while wearing a fur trimmed outfit, a little girl asked her if she was Mrs. Claus. Another one of her passions was caring for animals. She rescued many cats and dogs over the years by giving them a loving home. She also loved to travel. One of her favorite places was Disney World. She went there many times over the years. She also loved Hawaii. After her travels, she would share her adventures through stories and pictures. She joins her husband, Glenn "Pete" Dale, in Heaven. Howard Franklin "Franky" Goodson, Jr. , age 66, of Maiden passed away Friday, November 10, 2023 at his residence surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous 3- year battle with brain cancer. Born May 4, 1957 in Catawba County, he was a son of the late Howard Franklin Goodson Sr. and Gay Wilson Goodson. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Charles Ray Burke. Franky graduated from East Lincoln High School in 1975. He married Donna Lynn Burke Goodson August 15, 1976, and they began their life together. He loved gospel music and served that industry through his ownership and operation of Goodson Bus Sales in Maiden. Franky was also a trustee of the National Quartet Convention. He served the community through his bus charter partnership, S. T. I. Bus Charters of Maiden and his investment in Burke Mortuary & Crematory of Newton. His many business ventures blessed him with countless friends who would attest to his incredible generosity and enabled him to touch many lives. Above all else, Franky loved the Lord. He was an active member of Olivet Baptist Church in Catawba. He was a man of strong Christian faith and integrity. He joined Gideons International in May of 2013 and was a spokesman for that ministry. Even though Franky was a successful business man, he was a farmer at heart. He loved working the land on his tractors and farm equipment and his "Chevrolet" truck. Franky was devoted to his family and spent a tremendous amount of time with his grandchildren, who put that "twinkle" in his eye, smile on his face, and joy in his heart. He will be greatly missed. Lyle "Pete" Eugene Peterson, age 82 of Lincolnton passed away Monday, October 30, 2023 at Carolina Caring of Sherrills Ford. Born December 16, 1940 in Crawford County, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Leon and Iva Shaw Peterson. Lyle graduated from Meadville High School in 1958. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1958 and served in France for 3 years as a welder. Lyle married his wife, Nancy Fulton, on August 8, 1964. He worked at Talon (a zipper manufacturer) beginning in 1962 and then moved with the company to North Carolina in 1993 and retired in 2001 from the Stanley plant. After retirement, he stayed busy by fixing lawn mowers and was known as the person who could fix small lawn equipment problems of any kind. In addition to his parents, infant son, Steven Peterson and brother, Richard Peterson preceded him in death. Ronald Walter Kale, age 76, of Maiden passed away Friday, October 6, 2023 at Trinity Ridge in Hickory, NC, surrounded by his grandchildren, children, and wife of 59 years. He was born March 21, 1947 in Catawba County and was the son of the late Malvin Kale and Dorothy Miller. In addition to his father and mother, his brother, Lloyd Kale and his beloved dogs, Charlie and Tyler, predeceased him in death. He worked in maintenance in the furniture industry, yet on the side he worked on cars, lawn mowers, and loved to have a big garden or two. He had a servant's heart and was always kind and helpful to anyone he met. His garage was always open and he even once accepted payment of a pig from someone who had broken down and needed parts. He enjoyed collecting antiques or "junk. " He has left a huge amount of stuff for his kids who have no idea what to do with it. His most cherished title was "Grandpa. " He loved spending time with his grandkids. Some of the grandkids favorite memories are tagging along with him on his adventures to pick up parts or garden supplies, finding treasures in storage buildings, riding on his many tractors or in his wrecker, tricking grandma into making their favorite snacks, meeting Grandpa's friends at local restaurants, learning to resale junk, and how he joked with them over many Facetime goodnight chats.
