Ronald Walter Kale, age 76, of Maiden passed away Friday, October 6, 2023 at Trinity Ridge in Hickory, NC, surrounded by his grandchildren, children, and wife of 59 years. He was born March 21, 1947 in Catawba County and was the son of the late Malvin Kale and Dorothy Miller. In addition to his father and mother, his brother, Lloyd Kale and his beloved dogs, Charlie and Tyler, predeceased him in death. He worked in maintenance in the furniture industry, yet on the side he worked on cars, lawn mowers, and loved to have a big garden or two. He had a servant's heart and was always kind and helpful to anyone he met. His garage was always open and he even once accepted payment of a pig from someone who had broken down and needed parts. He enjoyed collecting antiques or "junk. " He has left a huge amount of stuff for his kids who have no idea what to do with it. His most cherished title was "Grandpa. " He loved spending time with his grandkids. Some of the grandkids favorite memories are tagging along with him on his adventures to pick up parts or garden supplies, finding treasures in storage buildings, riding on his many tractors or in his wrecker, tricking grandma into making their favorite snacks, meeting Grandpa's friends at local restaurants, learning to resale junk, and how he joked with them over many Facetime goodnight chats. Left to cherish his memory: Wife of 59 years, Hodie Jean Kale of the home; Daughters: Lisa Hines and husband, Scott of Taylorsville, NC; Cindy Gillen and husband, Ken of Granite Falls, NC; Angela Kale of Raleigh, NC; Son: Chris Kale and wife, Linh of Fort Mill, SC; Beloved Grandchildren: Melanie Kale and Chad Malone of Lincolnton, NC; Kimberly Martin of Lincolnton, NC; Jonathan Gillen and wife Karen of Charlotte, NC; Bailey Gillen and wife Hannah of Hickory Corners, Michigan; Emma Curtis of Hickory, NC; Chloe Kale of Fort Mill, SC; Great-Grandchildren: Makenna, Sutton, Cain, Brooke, Baby Girl Malone due October 16th; and Baby Girl Gillen due December 25th, 2023. Additionally, he will be fondly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and many good friends. A graveside service will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, October 12th at Maiden City Cemetery, 211 E Cemetery Street, Maiden, NC with Pastor Ken Gillen and Pastor Chip Stallings officiating.
