Elva Slawson

Elva Slawson

Age - 75

November 17, 2023

Elva Boone Slawson, 75, devoted wife, cherished mother, loving grandmother, and loyal friend, went to be with the Lord on November 13, 2023, at Sentera Hospital in Woodbridge, Virginia. She was of the Christian faith and, most recently, a member of Westwood Baptist Church in Cary, North Carolina. Elva was born on February 6, 1948 in Memphis, Tennessee to the late John Robert Boone and Ethel Perlina Curtis Boone. She graduated from Memphis Central High School in 1966 and was a Pep Club member. This club suited Elva well, as members took pride in making posters to decorate the halls for games and spread school spirit. After high school, she briefly attended the University of Tennessee. There, she met her first husband, Adrian Lee Smith. They had two daughters, Carrie Lynn (1969) and Courtney Lane (1972). Elva met her second husband, Michael Frank Slawson in 1976. They were married in Los Angeles, California, on August 12, 1977. They, too, had a daughter, Kathleen (Katie) Elizabeth (1979). Elva was known as a loyal friend and had the gift of hospitality. People were always welcome in the home, and she was ready to have a good time with a lot of laughter. Elva loved hosting bridge clubs and entertaining friends at dinner parties, Super Bowl parties, or backyard barbecues. She was a homemaker and took care of her family with great pride. Elva was an excellent cook, and her nightly dinners were perfectly prepared. Elva also had a knack for decorating. She could bring a room together with uniqueness and warmth for the family to enjoy. Apart from being a homemaker, Elva volunteered at Church. When living in Springfield, Virginia, she was on the flower committee. When it was her week to make the flower arrangement, Elva would have a great time creating in the kitchen. She enjoyed the flower committee so much that she briefly worked for a florist as a deliverer. She said she loved this job because everyone was always happy to see her and receive flowers. Elva loved her friends, daughters, and grandchildren. However, in knowing Elva, the greatest love of her life was her husband, Mike, of 42 years. The two of them went together hand in hand through life. They made each other laugh and enjoyed so many things together. They loved going out to dinner, seeing shows, going to Disney World, taking a cruise, or playing golf and bridge. They traveled to Italy, Greece, Spain, France, Ireland, England, the Caribbean, and many more places. Later in life, they enjoyed their beach condo and spent a lot of time there. While we will miss our mother, grandmother, and friend dearly, we know her true home is with Mike, worshiping Jesus together for all eternity. Elva is preceded in death by her husband, Michael Frank Slawson, her parents, John Robert Boone and Ethel Perlina Boone, and her brother, John O'Dell Boone. Elva is survived by three daughters, Carrie Lynn Smith and husband Curtis, Courtney Lane McKane and husband Kenny, Kathleen (Katie) Slawson Bray and husband Jason. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Trevor Smith, Megan Smith, Sarah Smith, Rachel McKane, Grace McKane, Faith McKane, and Emma Bray. The family has entrusted Mount Castle Turch with the arrangements. A Memorial Service is scheduled on November 21, 2023, at 1:00 pm at Hope Presbyterian Church (11121 Leavells Road, Fredericksburg, Virginia 22407). A reception will follow in the Church Fellowship Hall. Pastor Jonathan Dennis will officiate the ceremony.Show more
