Janie Smith

Age - 70

December 7, 2023

Janie Smith, age 70, was born on March 31, 1953 in Riesel, Texas to Walter and Wilma Young. She passed away peacefully on December 5, 2023 at her home in Lancaster, South Carolina surrounded by those she loved. Janie was a true peacemaker and refused to see the bad in people and chose to believe there was good in everyone. She loved every moment she could spend in the barn with her beloved horses. She taught spiritual healing and used horses to bring people to a peaceful place in life. She loved cooking for her family and friends and was an adamant mother to everyone wanting to make sure no one left hungry. She refused to accept the very appearance of cynicism and had a wonderful gift of seeing the more value in people than they even saw in themselves. She loved working in the non-profit sector and devoted her efforts trying to meet the needs of those she served. She was always there to help anyone in need. Her hearts desire was to see people put their differences to the side and to appreciate each other because life was way too short to carry such baggage. To her everyone was worth a second chance. She is proceeded in death by her parents, Her brother, Walter Young Jr. , a sister, Anna Helms and a granddaughter, Isabel Hendrix. Left to cherish her memory are her four daughters, Tammy Smith, Nicole Hendrix and her husband Ryan, Stacy Smith, Tabetha St. Arnauld and her husband Ron. Her sister, Barbara Witmore and her husband Donnie. Three grandsons, Harley and Levi Smith and Trey Johnson. A granddaughter, Emma Hendrix. A visitation will be held for Janie on December 8, 2023 starting at 6:00 pm in the Good Shepherd Chapel of Life and Legacy Funeral Home located at 6525 Old Monroe Road, Indian Trail, NC 28079.
