Karen Bowman, 66, of Akron, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, February 18, 2024, at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.Private family services will be held in Akron. Burial will be in the Westfield Township Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com. Karen Marleen Husmann, the daughter of Alfred and Florence (Whiting) Husmann, was born on June 13, 1957, in Sioux City, Iowa. She grew up on a farm south of Westfield, Iowa. She attended school in Westfield and graduated from Westfield High School. After high school, Karen went to work in sewing for multiple companies, including Aalfs Manufacturing.Karen met the love of her life, Gary Bowman, at a church ‘singles’ event in Minnesota. After a short courtship, they were united in marriage on March 29, 1986, in Akron. Their wedding was a double wedding shared with her sister, June. After a brief period in the Albert Lea, MN area where they gave birth to their son, they made their home in Akron. Karen started work for K-Products in Orange City doing sewing and picking. She eventually found the work she loved when going to work at Mica Hill Assisted Living in Hawarden as a senior health care manager. There she helped many residents as she worked there until her retirement. Gary passed away on December 11, 2023. Karen enjoyed doing stained glass, quilting, decorating, and cooking. She was a devoted Christian and enjoyed spending time with her family.Survivors include her son, Nathan Bowman of Indianola, IA; her brother, David (Linda) Husmann of Akron, IA; her sister, June (Mark) Heggedahl of Sioux Falls, SD; her in laws, Judy (Gary) Degan of Ellendale, MN, William (Sue) Bowman of Ellendale, MN, and Ann Bowman of Ellendale, MN; and many nieces, nephews, and extended relatives.She was preceded in death by her parents; her father and mother-in-law, Eugene and Vera Bowman; her husband, Gary Bowman; and a brother-in-law, Robert Bowman.

Sharon Jaunice Lundberg Lunder, a beloved wife, mother, teacher, and hospice nurse passed away peacefully at the Dougherty Hospice House on February 19, 2024 at the age of 78 after bravely battling colon cancer for four years. Sharon Lundberg was born on October 17, 1945 in the Geddes Hospital to Emil Carl Lundberg and Bernice Lillian Hockey of Platte, South Dakota. Sharon graduated in 1963 from Platte High School as a valedictorian. After high school she went to Dakota Wesleyan University where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in elementary education. Sharon went to a nursing program at St. Anthony’s Nursing School in Rockford, IL. There she graduated at the top of her class of 49 students. Sharon’s dream job was working at the Dougherty Hospice House for 35 years. She thought one was never closer to Heaven than at the bedside of the one entering Heaven until we were there ourselves. On August 9, 1969, Sharon married the love of her life, Richard Lunder, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Platte, SD. That same weekend Richard’s twin brother, Dennis, married Bonnie Lommen at First Lutheran, Sioux Falls, SD. Sharon is preceded in death by her parents, Emil and Bernice Lundberg; brother, Carl; and sister, Phillis Allen. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Richard, daughters: Kristi (Jeff) Paulsen and their children Annika and Aidan; Kimberly Lunder and her son, Eian; and Kari (David) Stone and their children Molly, Arne, Samuel, Fredrik, and Anastasia; and sisters, Edith Schipper and Joyce (Bill) Langer. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 24, 2024 at Canton Lutheran Church in Canton, SD. Family will greet visitors on hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Dougherty Hospice House, Avera Prairie Center, or Canton Lutheran Church.
