Crista Dale St JohnAugust 10, 1988 ~ April 18, 2023Crista was born in Redding, CA to Dennis St John and Linda Dean and went to live with paternal grandfather Dale and Kelley (Hawes) St John in Orlando, FL on 6/16/1994 with an official adoption date of 12/18/1996. As a child, Crista was an avid swimmer (our little mermaid[?]), excelled as a fast-pitch pitcher (with Daddy Dale as her personal coach) and she loved rollercoasters. She moved to Lake Oswego, OR when her mother moved back to the West Coast in 2007 then on to Albuquerque, NM and back to Oregon in 2014 settling in the Eugene/Springfield area most recently living in Sweet Home. Crista more than enjoyed reading, writing and gardening; was an exceptional artist - primarily oil on canvas and loved her pets, especially her cats. She was a fun-loving, private and sweet spirit who loved to laugh and have fun with her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her biological father Dennis St John (2007); father, Dale St John (2011); paternal grandmother Barbara "Babs" St John (2017); maternal grandfather William "Bill" Hawes (2017); aunts Lynn St John (2017) and Lisa St John (2020); BFF kitty Buffy (2003-2020); and so thankful Grandma Diane Hawes (4/14/2023) was with you in these first few days in your walk toward Jesus, Sweet Girl. Survivors include mother Kelley (Hawes St John) Brusewitz and "best father ever" Donald (Buz) Brusewitz, Springfield, OR; stepsisters Desiree Brusewitz, Eugene, OR and Ashlynn (Brusewitz) Holliman, LaPine, OR; step brother Brian Brusewitz, Eugene, OR; step grandmother Carol Brusewitz, Henderson, NV; uncles Kevin Hawes, Burlington, IA and Keith Hawes, Lacy, WA; cousins Jacob Hawes, Albany, OR, Joshua (Holly) Hawes, Salem, OR and Drew St John, Redding, CA. In lieu of flowers please give to your local animal shelter and/or write to your state representative to help change Oregon State Law to have better access to treatment facilities rather than to drugs. Private services are pending by invitation only with arrangements being made by Fisher Funeral Home, Albany, OR. Henry Van Dyke -- Gone From My SightI am standing upon the shore. A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength. I stand and watch her until at length she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other. Then someone at my side says:"There, she is gone!""Gone where?"Gone from my sight. That is all. She is just as large in mast and hull and spar as she was when she left my side and she Is just as able to bear the load of living freight to her destined port. Her diminished size is in me, not her. And just at that moment when someone at my sides says: "There, she is gone!" There are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices ready to take up the glad shout: "Here she comes!"And that is dying. . .
