It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Damien who brought joy and happiness to everyone he encountered. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. The funeral services for Damien Sims will be held at C. A. Reid Sr. Memorial Funeral Home located at 314-A Laney Walker Blvd Ext. , Augusta, GA, 30901. A visitation will take place on Friday, December 15, 2023, from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM. The funeral service will follow the next day, on Saturday, December 16, starting at 11:00 AM. Damien's life will be celebrated among family and friends as we come together to remember his loving spirit. Damien had an incredible impact on those around him and left an indelible mark on their lives. His infectious smile and warm personality were a source of comfort to anyone who sought solace in his presence. He had an innate ability to make others feel heard and valued. "Edward E. Stewart Hephzibah, GA - USAF Master Sergeant Retired Edward (Ed) E. Stewart entered into rest on Wednesday, December 6, 2023. He was born on July 24, 1936 in Keysville, GA to Viola and Rufus Stewart. Survivors include his wife Jeanne and son, John Stewart. He had four sisters, Mary Carswell, Carol Watkins, Faye Schlein (Eric) and Judy Winge (Richard), one brother, Johnny Eugene "Gene" Stewart (Marin) and many nieces and nephews. With pride and honor, he served his country in the United States Air Force for over 20 years. His primary assignments included, Omaha, NE, Homestead, FL, Lackland, Biggs and Laughlin Air Force Bases in TX, Keesler AFB, Mississippi, and in Sinop, Turkey. During his 4 tours to Viet Nam. Ed received the Bronze Star, Viet Nam Service Award X4, the Republic of Viet Nam Campaign Medal, the Air Force Longevity Medal, and the Combat Crew Badge to name a few. After retiring, Ed was employed with Liquid Air Inc. , the Fort Gordon Auto Craft Shop and the Gordon Lakes Golf Course. He also was a valued employee at ET Industrial, Augusta, GA, where he spent many hours with relatives, Eric, Faye, Tony, Gina and great friends like Daniel and others. Ed enjoyed being with his family, watching NASCAR on Television, napping in his chair, and Applebee's. Ed will greatly be missed by his family and friends. His warm personality, generous heart and caring spirit created countless memories for all those who knew and loved him. Visitation will be on Monday, December 11, 2023 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Chance and Hydrick Funeral Directors. Hubert Clyde Miles, 100, of Augusta, Georgia, passed away on Monday, December 4, 2023 at Charlie Norwood V. A. Medical Center. Born in Pulaski, Georgia on November 30, 1923, to J. B. (Bub) Miles, Jr. and Melrose Lane Miles, he was the third of seven brothers. He was raised on a farm near Metter, Georgia, and, following high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy. During WWII he took part in the D-Day invasion on Omaha Beach, serving as a diesel mechanic on LST 316. He graduated from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, Georgia and earned a Masters Degree from the University of Georgia. He was employed by the United States Department of Agriculture Soil Conservation Service in Athens, Georgia until 1965 and then was employed by the Army in Corps of Engineers in Savannah, Georgia as an economist until his retirement in 1978. Mr. Miles was married to Melba Moore Miles of Valdosta, Georgia in 1949 until her death in 1960 and to Elise Morris Miles of Athens, Georgia in 1962 until her death in 2004. He served in various capacities, including as an ordained deacon, at Prince Avenue Baptist Church in Athens, Georgia and at Southside Baptist Church in Savannah, Georgia. For the past 28 years he has been a member of Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Metter, Georgia. Mr. Miles is survived by brother Robert Miles of Tifton, Georgia, brother-in-law Jesse Moore of Virginia, and sisters-in-law Joyce Miles of Flintstone, Georgia and Laurene Hutcheson of Valdosta, Georgia. He is also survived by five daughters - Rose Harden (Chris) of Lawrenceville, Georgia, Tress Miles of Metter Georgia, Sally Van Peursem (Bruce) of North Augusta, South Carolina, Wendy Cornelison (Fred) of Augusta, Georgia and Marianne Barnes (Dave) of Statesboro Georgia. Other survivors include 12 grandchildren - Jesse Harden (Chelsea), Melba Rosa (Alex), Julia Williams (Aaron), Lillie Miles, Evan Van Peursem (Catherine), Paul Van Peursem, William Cornelison (Sarah), Joseph Cornelison, Matthew Cornelison (Destiny), Grace Niebling (Don), Jenny Martinez (Justin) and Wesley Barnes. Mr. Miles also has ten great grandchildren - Colten and Treva Harden, Daniel and Emma Rosa, Miles Williams, Charlotte and Ava Van Peursem, Ida and Eleanor Cornelison, and Jairus Martinez. He also has numerous nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 20th, 2023, at Pine Grove Baptist Church at 11:30 a. m. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10 a. m. until 11 a. m. at Pine Grove Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
